alexktz··on Ente – Opening Our Books
That's exactly what a bot would say. ~_~
alexktz··on Ente – Opening Our Books
I'm in the same boat. I had a so many comments under Immich videos about Ente that it made me wonder if they were just bots.

The client / server relationship with Ente is peculiar, and on my test dataset of about 1000 images did not perform at all. Face recognition, semantic search, etc, it was not in the same league as Immich tbh. (Also hi Stavros!)

(Alex from Tailscale here) I've sent this to the web team, we'll take a look first thing in the morning. Sorry y'all had to look at my ugly mug a bit longer than is ideal just now.
alexktz··on Tailscale Peer Relays is now generally available
Alex from Tailscale here... We’re users just like you, and we felt this pain point ourselves. The good news is that Peer Relays were able to build on a lot of the existing subnet router and exit node plumbing, so it wasn’t a huge engineering lift to bring to life.

We also have plenty of customers running in restrictive NAT environments (AWS being a common example), where direct WireGuard tunnels just aren’t always possible. In those cases, something like Peer Relays is essential for Tailscale to perform the way larger deployments expect.

So yes, it improves latency and UX for self-hosters, but it also helps us support more complex production environments without requiring folks to run and manage custom DERP infrastructure.

alexktz··on Stable v2.0.0 Release of Immich
Hello everyone,

After:

~1,337 days, 271 releases, 78,000 stars on GitHub, 1,558 contributors, 31,500 members on Discord, 36,000 members on Reddit, 68 languages on Weblate, Surviving the controversial announcement about joining FUTO, Having overwhelming success and support from the community with the product keys model, Launching the Merch store, Attending our first FOSDEM, ...and before the release of GTA VI We are thrilled to announce the stable release of Immich!

This has been a journey long in the making. So much has changed since the first commit on the project, all the way back in February, 2022. The project and team continue to grow, and today we’re proud to announce v2.0.0, our stable release. Stable signifies that we have now resolved a significant amount of technical debt. It also means we will be prioritizing compatibility and less effort will be required to keep Immich up-to-date. Finally, it means that the warning banner on the website has been removed! Along with this, we’re happy to announce a new version of the immich.app website.

For more specifics about the stable release, see our FAQs below.

I wonder. Combining this with ocr in obsidian or something might get you there. It’s not a single tool solution though.
alexktz··on Docker is sunsetting Free Team organizations [pdf]
Docker as the default librarian of images due to the root namespace hijack in docker clients has a duty of care to maintain trust. A policy of preventing namespace reuse for 1 year before recycling should give time to prevent poisoned images squatting on popular handles.

A Noctua NH-D14 is considered "thermally constrained" for these 13th gen chips? Good lord.

I'm looking forward to your test results though as I'm considering building a new desktop around 13th gen.

alexktz··on Factorio runs on Apple Silicon
I was just saying to my wife last night when her Lego Hobbits game crashed that I don't recall a single crash in my 1000+ hours in Factorio. Not one!

Factorio is the standard against which I compare not only other games, but all other software. For polish, stability and craftsmanship. I hope they read this thread because the love for the game everywhere is truly well deserved.

No, Joplin stores files as plain text with obfuscated filenames. An SQLite DB is only involved for indexing and search.

Agree totally with this. It's a hot mess tbh and very unreliable. As suggested restic (with autorestic as a wrapper) is a great replacement.
alexktz··on Duplicati: Free backup software to store encrypted backups online
Restic is absolutely great. Wrap it in Autorestic and it's even better!

alexktz··on Ford CEO says EVs will be sold 100% online with nonnegotiable price
And yet when I called corporate to ask wtf was going on, they didn't care. That dealership is still a Ford dealers so clearly no effs given!
alexktz··on Ford CEO says EVs will be sold 100% online with nonnegotiable price
A bonkers car! SO much fun.

Shame about the interior though.

alexktz··on Ford CEO says EVs will be sold 100% online with nonnegotiable price
It 100% factored into my decision to cancel my pre-order for a Lightning. The dealer said to me via email in December 2021:

The latest communication is that order banks will open in January. Ford will be sending invitations to build / order in waves as to keep up with the demand. The invitations will be prioritized based on reservation time stamps. Your reservation is number 138 at our location. I have no way to track where you are in the total reservation list. Once 2022 model orders have been fulfilled, Ford will start the process over again. They expect to start taking orders for 2023 models about mid next year. Given the demand and number of reservation ahead of you, it is reasonable to think that you will not be able to order until mid 2022 for a 2023 model. I also need to mention that Managment has indicated there will be an addendum added to the MSRP. We are expecting that to be about $10,000 but could be a little lower or higher dependant on supply vs demand.
I called Ford corporate who didn't care. So I canceled my preorder and decided not to proceed with becoming a net new Ford customer so long as dealers are involved. This news gives me hope that model is not long for this world - thank goodness.
alexktz··on I was forced to be a child star. It was never my dream or my idea
My experience at music conservatory in England was very close to the bone on this movie. It was painful to watch in many ways, so in respect it’s well done and an accurate representation of the egotistical way things work in this world professionally.

Most music colleges have a suicide garden because the pressure is so intense. A suicide garden for a place inhabited by mostly teenagers. Think about that for a sec.

Ultimately I gave up on being a professional musician because I graduated in 2008, once you graduate you realise you’re competing against everyone else in the world and that’s much harder than just your peers, and IT reliable pay cheques were comfortable.

I’m a happy hobby musician these days but it took me nearly a decade to start enjoying to play music again after the competitive rat race of music college.
