"You're posting too fast. Please slow down. Thanks." = censorship.

Unaccountable [flag] = censorship.

Mass un-elaborated on downvoting = censorship; needing 500 karma to downvote = censorship.

Turn on showdead in your profile and see for yourself what people are "allowed" to comment vs what they're not. Userbase = mendacious pricks.

If you are here to downvote (or flag) purely to save your industry (when someone is making a legitimate point) I have nothing but contempt for you

They didn't just 'fumble the integration', it wrecked the comment section and people LOST ACCOUNTS over it

alex1138··on Visa, Mastercard, major banks facing new litigation over 'anticompetitive' fees
I see I have a downvote. But I'm not wrong and I can prove it. ArriveCAN was a gigantic scam, 90% of covid also was
alex1138··on Visa, Mastercard, major banks facing new litigation over 'anticompetitive' fees
Because damn near everything to do with covid was a massive fraud and crime, too
alex1138··on What Meta got right with Muse
Yes we do care and many of us have set the privacy settings to certain things over the years

But this is where friends are and don't give me 'you could just call them'

Not everyone has access to email/phone. Facebook should work in theory, if they weren't so enthusiastic about intentionally eroding privacy (physically changing the privacy options). Multicast. I post some status to multiple people at once. I can find people I don't already know/have lost touch with, and connect with them

What Meta does, does not mean its users don't care and I wish you people would stop saying that

alex1138··on We're working on a new RuneScape MMO
It's insulting because RS/RS3 was designed from the perspective that everything leads to everything else. Prior to the sixth age, and I'm not calling that a mistake, and especially MTX, skills had a certain curve and quest lines made sense

What the MTX team apparently did is pocket all of it while not using the money to improve the game

Whether or not they're doing a good job now, their behavior across many years was/is despicable

alex1138··on What Meta got right with Muse
It's FB's modus operandi. They don't care about safety or being careful. About fucking anything.
alex1138··on LeCun has "zero concerns" about AI wiping out humanity, recent "rogue" incidents
Didn't Zuckerberg say something like it's insulting people would dare to believe AI could destroy the world? I'm paraphrasing him wrongly but he got defensive over it

Zuck - along with your "Andrew Jackson best POTUS and it's not even close" - you are a dumb pipe. Your website, Facebook, if not a protocol, should behave like one (and not random bans while you report something horrible and it never gets taken down). We don't use We-Approve-Of-Zuckerberg product, we use These-Are-Where-Our-Friends-Are product. In other words: shut the fuck up and be more responsible

I don't know if AI will wipe out humanity, I think it'll definitely get into the hands of people who will do the job for it, but it's not like it's not a question to take seriously?

alex1138··on Newgrounds.com – A community of games, music, and art
Twitch is a big category in the enshittification category. They're endlessly user hostile. I want to force management to use their own products

The money people probably just told them "more ads. I don't care how you do it - more ads"

alex1138··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
HN has [flag]. And anything and everything is subject to it...
alex1138··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
I'm being snarky about this, but reddit (among other things. I don't really know what ails them) has a spez problem

It's spez that caused mods to have shit mod tools, the war with API against its users, who seems purely interested in the profit motive, training LLMs on reddit data

And yes, reddit has a censorship problem. Always somewhat of an issue with subreddits as a concept - I'll just get 5 of my friends to ideologically align against you and ban your posts - but even the site itself seems to be this. "The most real place on the internet"?! Fucking please.

alex1138··on Musk, the Movie
Care to tell me why I'm wrong or why you're uncaring enough to drive-by downvote?
alex1138··on Musk, the Movie
Colonizing the moon first is not a bad idea and ultimately we do need to find some way of (in the far future) mitigating the sun's expansion, whether it's moving to another planet or something

Mars is just really far. You can send lots of robots. Human beings is a tougher thing

alex1138··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
Basically. There's a difference between someone getting hunted after by RIAA asshats for downloading an album (people may be interested to look up Steve Albini's views of piracy) and an actual industrial industry of take-content-for-free
alex1138··on Jury finds Facebook liable for deceiving users in Cambridge Analytica case
I wish HN was more of a reliable aggregator and not just people protecting their industry at all cost

You can reliably tell what the most upvoted comments will be

Does that mean we should always hate on big tech? No. If a platform is getting unfairly targeted, that's nice to know. But you come here to get the general sense of the landscape and the first comment is always slanted in favor of big corporate

alex1138··on Jury finds Facebook liable for deceiving users in Cambridge Analytica case
My understanding of the internet is Google is extremely flawed but fair and they didn't try to hold you hostage

Facebook is not fair and they actively do (ever try deleting an account? surprise! it's back a few months later. look at how many users we have, as measure of our success)

There's this for example https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1890164

alex1138··on Jury finds Facebook liable for deceiving users in Cambridge Analytica case
But judge! We can't be a monopoly ["Quickly... delete all instances of 'Instagram can hurt us' emails..."]. Email exists. Mouths exist, people can communicate without using Facebook...

(Yeah, 'Book. We know email exists. You apparently don't. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4151433)

alex1138··on Meta's Muse appears to use an OpenAI model labeled muse-special
Pride, as in stealing literally everyone else's products from the time he entered Silicon Valley and before that?
alex1138··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Facebook included, by the way

Myspace had its run, it wasn't an especially good product. People moved to Facebook for any number of reasons, but those privacy settings ("friends only", etc) if they worked would've been pretty cool and good for the web

Unfortunately Zuckerberg doesn't care about privacy and actively spent time changing those from Friends Only to Public

And graph search. If I search for 'carrot' I can see any post you've ever made in your entire history with carrot in it

There's a reason Facebook's wall thing is now called 'timeline'. It lists everything you've ever done ever. Hope you managed to catch yet another one of their silent privacy changes. Oh, look, guess you have to log in to catch it. That means they rope you back into the system. Oh well. No biggie. Just the absolute antithesis of consent

alex1138··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
The asymmetry bothers me. No one corporation is going to get it right 100% of the time but it's when you report stuff and it never gets removed but they ban you that you can really see how morally bankrupt they are

(Oh, and they don't care about local solutions. Their sneakiness with Free Basics is clear. Can you blame them for Myanmar? I think you can, but it's also clear they want to supplant all the other social networks, like a system each individual country might come up with)

It does bother me being here on hacker news because it's a good aggregator but you get people standing up for their industry no matter what or flagging anything they disagree with

alex1138··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Oh, like the video metrics scandal? Or how their ads are shown to more people in an area than physically exist?

Of course the counter-argument is "makes money". That first of all doesn't make a good CEO (if you put no money into maintaining your site, for example), second of all it ignores all the fraud

alex1138··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
Outside basic network effects like real names Facebook has contributed essentially nothing of value to the world. (And no, don't tell me "React, Pytorch". People were screaming about React's license) The network effects barely matter too because their AI bans you whenever and feeds are so useless you never see what anyone posts

Instagram went from a site for photographers to Reels everywhere (and login walls on every page)

Zuckerberg is awful. Awful, awful, awful.

alex1138··on Meta VR Glasses
This is why he buys anything. I can't speak to Whatsapp but Instagram is horrific now precisely because he doesn't give a damn about making a good product. All he wants is to own the network effects, and credentials, and data
alex1138··on Meta VR Glasses
I was going to say. It's not 'the company', it's him. He has majority voting rights on everything
alex1138··on Meta’s Muse has a serious 0-day
And before this gets flagged or downvoted or "he was young" or "he was joking" or "he was making a point: he was saying 'I could be anyone', not that he can't be trusted" answer me what other tech people say this, ever, along with all the other charges ("I'm going to fuck them [the Winklevoss twins] in the ear", "You can be unethical and legal and that's how i live my life haha", hacking Crimson reporters, and that's just at Harvard, let alone when Facebook became available to the public
alex1138··on How Meta's Muse works, revealed by the 6.8 GB filesystem it sent me
I guess that's fair. I guess I just see so many comments flagged that shouldn't be (though this one just said [dead], not flagged) that my mind chalks it up to HN being HN

alex1138··on ZuckOff Know when a camera is in the room
You'd be surprised. They banned Christopher Wylie from Facebook. People routinely report their entire team (building some product for Facebook) getting their accounts banned
