alemhnan··on Ask HN: If you had two months off between jobs what would you be doing?
Solo backpacking in Central/South America or Asia.
alemhnan··on Why Italy Could Be the Epicenter of the Next Financial Crisis
I don't recall Italian economy having failed in recent times.
alemhnan··on Qusim.py – A toy multi-qubit quantum computer simulator written in Python
The red button was a nice touch. I genuinely laughed.
alemhnan··on 1962 U.S. Military Ejects Bear from B-58 to Test Escape Capsule
It's bit controversial anyway cause another comment tells a different story altogether:

'''According to the government white paper on the subject all bears were destroyed shortly on return to base. All but the last three bears suffered serious internal injuries and multiple broken bones. 'Several hundred' bears were acquired for this purpose, all of which were destroyed 'in or after the testing process, by the testing process or by gun shot to the heart to preserve cranial damage from impacts'.'''

alemhnan··on Italian doctors successfully transplant a kidney in the place of the spleen
quite racist
alemhnan··on Ask HN: What free or low-cost static site hosting do you use most?
I use surge.sh, pretty easy and comfortable to use.
alemhnan··on API Discovery: Can we do better?
thanks a lot!
alemhnan··on API Discovery: Can we do better?
Would you mind to share a link for that? I am very interested as I work on different projects with swagger apis.
alemhnan··on Ask HN: Do you still use UML?
Some enterprise software, most of the patterns are well know and the customization point are well defined. I would describe more as a well know domain with clear constraints than trivial software. They generate a lot of code also for high critical real time software (avionics and space) but that is not really trivial.
alemhnan··on Ask HN: Do you still use UML?
I don't know the details so I couldn't say. I was surprised as well to be honest. I talked briefly with one of the owners, he did know quite in a deep way what he was talking about. A lot of emphasis for the process, using new technologies but without the 'madness' that we see usually in the Javascript world.
alemhnan··on Ask HN: Do you still use UML?
They provide value for a relevant number of enterprise customers, so somehow yes.
alemhnan··on Ask HN: Do you still use UML?
It is useful if you are able to generate code from it. I know one big software company (more than 3000 employee) that generate 90% of all it's code base (~20M lines of code).
alemhnan··on Return of the Mac (2005)
My MBP has 16gb as well and no problem whatsoever with that. But it's a 5 years old model and when I bought I had only 4gb. So 4x in 5 years. By extension I would probably need at least 2x 16gb in 3-4 years but instead I will be stuck with 16gb.
alemhnan··on Bitcoin is at over 43K unconfirmed transactions
If you deploy more miners the average difficult to mine each block will increase (as for the bitcoin rules) so you are back to square one.
alemhnan··on Police complaints drop over 90% after deploying body cameras
The difference with NSA recording naked people is that we are recording also the police behaviour, so it's a two way factor.

Most likely the police is behaving 'better' and without stirring up the need to complain that much.

As often happens on internet, when anonymous you are a kind of different human being then when you have an identity attach to you.

alemhnan··on Ask HN: Location-independent entrepreneurs, where do you live and why?
Ah that's very interesting. Do you mind to have a chat? I'm in Netherlands and might be interested in doing that.
alemhnan··on Ask HN: Location-independent entrepreneurs, where do you live and why?
the 30% tax break holds also if you are a one man company (zzp) ?
alemhnan··on GitHub is down
Could Ethereum (or a similar concept) be the solution of this kind of problems?
alemhnan··on Is It Cheaper to Stay in an Airbnb ‘Entire Home’ Rental or a Hotel?
I recently applied for it but they didn't ask me to send ID via email. They used idnow (http://www.idnow.eu/). You get a real operator via website (or even mobile) asking some questions and taking a photo of you and your passport. I was actually surprised as it worked quite seamlessly.
alemhnan··on That self-appendectomy
Well, the first one is a mother that did a C-section on herself saving the baby and not dying in the process. Pretty remarkable if you ask me.
alemhnan··on Best Free Offline GPS App for Android from HERE
Yes, we use the same for our app. You need just to link a google group or a g+ community in the developer dashboards. It works quite well.
alemhnan··on Italy Approves ‘Google Tax’ on Internet Companies
Maybe I'm wrong, but with this law Google is not able to sell ads in Italy. So if they still want to do that they need to open an Italian company and therefore pay taxes in Italy. So, for Italy at least, things would change.
alemhnan··on Italy Approves ‘Google Tax’ on Internet Companies
The objection reported in the article seems to me quite usual political boilerplate without real substance. One of the comments says something interesting: "Europe will have to address the fiscal treatment of multinationals, and by its nature, this is not a task to be faced on a piecemeal basis."

That sounds more the real issue of the problem to me.

alemhnan··on CoffeeStrap HN
I guess this is because it's a bit overloaded the website! Thanks for the heads up, looking into!
alemhnan··on CoffeeStrap HN
Another one for the University of Venice (Ca' Foscari) that we proposed to students/ex-students last week.
alemhnan··on CoffeeStrap HN
The Ca' Foscari one (university of Venice) was a pilot that we launched last week. The cool think about that is that we are able to automatically certify people that comes from Ca' Foscari. We are planning to have a 'karma' style reference that goes up based on languages certifications, institutions in which you studied and so on.

So definitely yes, we want to repeat that for other Institutions as well.

alemhnan··on CoffeeStrap HN
Hey thanks! We are pouring a lot of efforts, we are improving day after day! The video chat is on a isolate instance of heroku. We used a nodejs app with webrtc stuff!
alemhnan··on Angularjshub
I contacted the owner and he is currently busy fixing the cache thing. I submitted without alert him before so I am the one to blame if the site is slow! :)
alemhnan··on Angularjshub
It's not mine but I already contacted the author, hopefully he will get on track in time! :) (I was actually thinking to suggest him to build that in angular! :) )
alemhnan··on Robot solving a rubik's cube in 1 second
Definitely true. What I really enjoyed was the different strategy compared with the other solving robots. The other robots were usually able to perform the whole spectrum of operations supported by the cube. In these case they selected a subset of operations in which this machine is able to perform extremely fast and built a strategy around that. And the result of the 'pure execution' is definitely outstanding!
