aleksandrm··on When oil prices spike, where does the money go?
I wish I could downvote this, because what a bunch of baloney! Unless you have hundreds of thousands, and to be precise millions, invested in oil already, you're not going to see any significant changes to your portfolio. The rich will get richer playing the market, the regular folk are left out as always paying the price.
aleksandrm··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
I needed to analyze some network logs from my own app to debug an issue, and Claude just refused to work with me. Fuck Anthropic!

So thankful that these open models exist.

aleksandrm··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
Is Anthropic stupid or something?

I already barely use Claude, but now I think I'll just stop using them altogether. Fuck Anthropic!

aleksandrm··on SNL Weekend Update: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on A.I.'S Threat to Humanity [video]
Why is this on the front page of HN?
aleksandrm··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
Confidently incorrect. As others have mentioned it is shutdown.
aleksandrm··on AX – Google’s Open Agentic Orchestrator
I looked at the website, and I still don't understand the purpose.
aleksandrm··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
What does it mean "closer to chrome"?
aleksandrm··on Fastpotify
Too bad this requires a Premium subscription, can't use this without one.
aleksandrm··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
That's not a counterpoint.
aleksandrm··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
In other words Uber did not bribe the politicians enough in their favor, market was not favorable for them, so they exited.
aleksandrm··on OpenLogi
>Even if its proofread and factually correct it just comes across as cheap and low effort

How so?

aleksandrm··on Incident with Github.com [resolved]
Can anyone shed some light why GitHub is having so many problems lately?
aleksandrm··on Going Dark, and the era of law enforcement hacking
I don't know, my colleague refuses to use AI and I've been seeing more bugs from their side, while reducing bugs on my side with the help of AI.

That said if companies want to "ship ship ship fast", then yes even AI can produce bugs or regressions if not carefully reviewed by the human.

aleksandrm··on US strikes $1.2B deal to pay German firm to halt offshore wind projects
His "AI" company is about weaponizing deepfakes. This guy is nuts and should be banned from HN.
aleksandrm··on US beef prices have soared but farmers aren't making more money
Same here, I haven't had beef in over 2 years now. Chicken and pork only now, mostly chicken, like 90% chicken is all I eat now. Insane.
aleksandrm··on Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork
US AI companies are already sweating and 100% pressuring the Trump administration for more anti-Chinese regulation, since there have already been talk of Trump considering banning Chinese models. There's however another push back from the startup industry urging them not to ban it, since it will stifle the innovation. In other recent news OpenAI also greatly cut their model prices, 20% for 5.6 Terra and 80% for 5.6 Luna, to stay competitive.

aleksandrm··on OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future
That's why Citizens United is a sham. Corporations are NOT people. If they were, they would see more consequences. But no one ever does.
aleksandrm··on Microsoft deleted my account and OneDrive
I truly hope you get this resolved if it is at all salvageable. The more stories I hear like this the less I am inclined to do any kind of backups with these companies because they are notorious for not giving a single fuck.
aleksandrm··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
I'm curious, who is actually making the calls and who is actually doing the scouting for these people. If this is coordinated, the chain must long, so let's see it!
aleksandrm··on Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model
I don't know about Cursor or other outlets, but I use GPT 5.4 exclusively in Windsurf (Sorry, Devin!), and it's a very capable model that doesn't break the bank!.
aleksandrm··on Running local models is good now
Clickbait title, because running local models is still not good now.
aleksandrm··on Google Chrome update will close the door on ad blockers
Not in my experience. Never had issues with FF feeling sluggish at all.

Related, someone posted this on Reddit, so I'm quoting:

>If his companies were valued properly, Elon would be worth only $50 billion

>Currently:

>Tesla stake: he owns 20% of a company valued at 388x profit = $304B

>SpaceX stake: he owns 42% of a company valued at 112x revenue = $882B (had to switch to revenue because SpaceX has no profit)

>Twitter/Xai/cash (owns all of it): $33B

>304+882+33 = $1.2T

>Real valuations:

>Tesla: value it at 11x profit like Ford and his ownership stake is worth $8.6B

>SpaceX: value it at 1.7x revenue like Boeing and his stake is worth $13.3B

>Twitter/Xai/cash: $33B

>8.6+13.3+33 = $54.9B

aleksandrm··on Cybersecurity researchers aren't happy about the guardrails on Anthropic's Fable
It refuses to do any legitimate work that it thinks can remotely be related with "cybersecurity", it won't even read my Docker app logs to try and troubleshoot a problem. Absolute garbage!
aleksandrm··on I built a vulnerable app and spent $1,500 seeing if LLMs could hack it
I've noticed this well and it's increasingly frustrating because it is preventing us from doing legitimate work. I fed Claude models some network and app logs from our Docker app to try and resolve some weird bugs, and it refused to analyze them due to "security concerns".
aleksandrm··on Atherton spent $145K to delay train electrification. The rest of us paid $400M
