alejoar··on Show HN: SVG Animation Software
Looks really cool. I appreciate all the videos on youtube too!
alejoar··on Near-infrared spatiotemporal color vision enabled by upconversion contact lenses
Well, using an IR flashlight will light the path only for the contact lenses wearer, so still pretty cool and plausible.
alejoar··on Kirin demos "electric salt spoon" at CES
A huge percent of the population can't take food with salt because of medical conditions. This would be a quality of life improvement for them.

You can still eat as much salt as you like, not need to feel pathetic.

alejoar··on Doom, the Gallery Experience
Try using Shazam on the music, interesting result..
alejoar··on Ghostty 1.0
This is the first thing I went looking for when looking at the docs, thank you.
alejoar··on Not Using Copilot
I don't know the author's reasons for doing this, but I'll abide by his wishes and skip reading this article.
alejoar··on GDash – A Feature-Rich Boulder Dash Clone for Mac, Win and Linux
I never knew Boulder Dash but seeing this brought up fond memories of playing Supaplex as a kid!
alejoar··on Show HN: A football/soccer pass visualizer made with Three.js
I'm interested in seeing the World Cup final in this app, but I'm not sure how to find the correct file. Any pointers?

For anyone wondering without time, the solution is E=MC^2

Now if they only would allow me to take the focused window to the next workspace without using the mouse.
alejoar··on Why are bidets just now getting popular in America?
Argentines know it better: traveling outside their home country comes with the pain of just wiping when going number two.
alejoar··on Why are bidets just now getting popular in America?
I don't think hygiene is necessarily associated to country development. E.g. people in South America tend to shower more often than people in some parts of Europe [1].

alejoar··on Django REST framework 3.15.0
I love DRF and use it daily.

I just wish I didn't have to do code contortionism any time I need to support async (or resort to a third party like adrf).

I looks like DRF will never support async.

alejoar··on Pikachu Volleyball
I remember playing this with my sister. We were raised in Argentina fwiw.
alejoar··on The day I canceled my Spotify subscription
Ok, but what is your point?

I'm also curious what do you/your generation consider amazing nowadays?

alejoar··on Show HN: Hack your mind with Flowstate Android app- natural sound for relaxation

alejoar··on Silos are fine, as long as there is an API between them
New management in the last company I worked for went on a crusade against silos.

Their strategy was to randomly shuffle people across teams. Literally random.

You could tell how productivity bottomed and soon after a lot of senior engineers left the company.

This is a multimillion american media company.

alejoar··on Atuin replaces your existing shell history with a SQLite database
I've been using fzf for this for years, but will check this out!
alejoar··on Using a Markov chain to generate readable nonsense with 20 lines of Python
We had a bot that would randomly say things in our IRC channel 15 years ago that worked like this. You could also mention it to prompt it to reply.

Every message was added to it's knowledge base and it would say random but hilarious stuff made up from all the nonsense we used to talk about.

Good times.

alejoar··on The Invisible Screen – An E-Paper Smart Display
You, on the other hand, sound like a very not-sad person.
alejoar··on How Africans are changing French, one joke, rap and book at a time
> Speaking of English: I work in an international company since one year and am I the process of becoming fluent: native speakers are the hardest to understand for me. The easiest being the french, but surprisingly, a strong Italian or Moroccan accent isn't stopping me at all.

Interesting. I am not a native speaker either but I usually find french people the hardest to understand when speaking English. East coast Americans being the easiest.

alejoar··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
What's not fantastic is apple's lock down of their ecosystem. I'm not paying for some lacking android app by Apple.
alejoar··on Comparison of different Lemmy Instances
I have this problem too.

I noticed there's a web socket connection and when you submit the info goes there (not a separate request). Then the client gets something about a captcha and the spinner spins forever.

alejoar··on My 24 year old HP Jornada can do things an iPhone still can't do
> And none of those things actually matter. Rose tinted glasses at its finest

They don't matter to you.

alejoar··on Junkyard computing – repurposing discarded smartphones to minimize pollution
What's beautiful about pmos is that you can use docker on it. Very easily you can set up a very functional home lab/server off an old phone.

I did so with an old OnePlus 5

alejoar··on Google exec fired after female boss groped him at drunken bash, suit says
I agree. However, as a person living in Europe and working for american companies, I can attest gender and race are huge factors when it comes to incentives for hiring, promotion, etc. when compared to companies in my country, which do show some of the same characteristics but not with the same weight.

I understand the reasoning and benefits of positive discrimination but I have also seen rationality being relegated to the point plain bad decisions have been taken in the name of diversity.
