alasano··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
Appreciate the enthusiasm :)

I was coding already before LLMs but nowadays any little idea for something useful can be done on 15 minutes.

From your profile, you're a retired neurosurgical anesthesiologist so I'm not sure how much you tinker with code but if you've got a ChatGPT subscription you can just ask ChatGPT to build you useful little utilities and websites like this now.

It will publish it for you either privately or publicly under your own subdomain e.g. something.bookofjoe.chatgpt.site

Could be fun for you to try for anything you can think of.

Glad you like it Joe

here's a page that allows you to browse and search all the books mentioned in this thread.

Agreed. In my testing yesterday GPT 6 Sol still beat Opus 5.5 on code review (of GPT written code in this case)

6.1 will probably perform even better.

Opus 5.5 is better in that regard than Fable 5.1 except for some bugs with more complexity which it was uniquely suited to.

alasano··on ChatGPT Pro 500
Just keep cutting existing plans and introducing more expensive ones that give you the same thing the cheaper ones did.

Makes perfect sense.

(If you're an idiot)

alasano··on ChatGPT Pro 500
What do you mean? It's the fact that previously the 20x plan cost $200 (and is 10x now) and now 25x is $500.

If it was a 50x $500 plan it would be a different story.

I wonder if Fable 5.5 is coming this week to drown out the OpenAI dev day announcements
alasano··on Cf: The Agentic CLI for the Cloudflare API
I think I may be confusing my annoyance with pages vs workers and agents that kept deploying to pages due to outdated training data.

Wrangler still didn't feel great to use.

alasano··on Cf: The Agentic CLI for the Cloudflare API
I don't know what it is about wrangler that made me dislike it so much but I welcome this change since it's meant to replace wrangler.

All generated, I don't normally use the ChatGPT/Codex desktop app but in this instance I had it do everything directly.

So GPT 5.6 Sol using GPT images 2.0 (fake transparency by generating pink which it then removed) and it deployed to ChatGPT sites which I also wanted to just see in action for fun. It's basically just CloudFlare with D1 underneath or something.

So tldr yeah just generated with the built in image gen, it does have an advantage there over Claude. With images 2.5 I imagine the result would be more consistent.

If enjoy AI Pixel Slop, I had made this little Yamanote Line experience to test GPT 5.6 when it came out

Sound on for nostalgia if you've been to Tokyo.

Edit: forgot I had added a little behind the scenes page

I genuinely believe that the multiple dedicated agents reviewing security will do a better and faster job than me and than 99.99% of people.

You're acting as if code was incredibly secure before LLMs because humans were reviewing it.

The prejudice is based on billionaires being the first to get access to the cure for aging in these hypothetical scenarios.

While everyone else can't afford it. Hard to think of a more demoralizing "off with their heads" dystopian scenario.

alasano··on I am often wrong
Yeah it's something server side if I recall correctly from the numerous threads, regular messages getting returned as thinking tokens or something strange.

I've got a Claude session going which can check sessions and count how many of these messages I haven't seen due to this bug.

alasano··on I am often wrong
We'd gladly fix the bugs in Claude Code in our own forks but they're too ashamed of their AGI level code to make it open source.

Sorry I meant it's too dangerous to be released.

alasano··on I am often wrong
Which one of multiple GitHub issues on this topic should I link to?

#67071 is one of them

Or #83281 which you closed as a duplicate of #67051 which was closed as not planned.

There's a bunch more. Just ask Claude to search repo issues for messages not being shown.

alasano··on I am often wrong
Haven't seen any Claude Code specific examples of Boris admitting he's wrong and then actually fixing things in the way the community wants.

There are mind blowing bugs in CC that go unaddressed for months.

Something like 15-20% of all Fable messages in CC are invisible to users. You've most likely noticed this when Claude references something it said but it never said it?

It happens frequently when Fable outputs a message above a certain number of tokens just before doing a tool call.

This has been going on for months. If "users can't see messages the agent sends" isn't a critical issue that gets addressed within 24 hours, I don't really care if you admit you're often wrong, we know.

alasano··on Apple M6 Pro Achieves the Highest Single-Core CPU Score in Geekbench 7
Jokes aside yeah I'm definitely in need of a ram upgrade. Or I have to learn how to close Firefox tabs.

But with a few docker containers, android studio running an emulator + vscode and a ton of Claude code / Pi / Codex instances, I'm basically maxed out all the time now.

alasano··on Apple M6 Pro Achieves the Highest Single-Core CPU Score in Geekbench 7
Shame, I only upgrade my M1 for chips that are at least twice as fast.

It feels like a crime upgrading from this thing tbh.

Honestly agents can't one shot shit except cool demos. I mean in a way they can but I let an Astra/Fable 5.1 duo build an android app and figured I'd really just loosely vibe code this for once instead of supervising.

It's a working pile of trash that has quadratic growth in the remote postgres database resulting in 10GB stored in a few days for what should have been like 5 MB of data.

It's not a skill issue, I know how to get good results but I figured maybe I don't need to be as cautious as I am all the time.

Not that I don't believe we can get there eventually.

alasano··on Astra for Law
At a certain point why would they sell anything other than services and products their eventual (actual) AGI/ASI builds in literally every market.

When opportunity cost isn't a thing anymore because it reaches every corner of the planet simultaneously faster and builds better than any human can.

There's no reason to let others build on top of AI, except if the AI determines that it needs capitalism to continue because it's paperclip goal is to maximize shareholder value.
