al_al··on How the iPhone 16's electrically-released adhesive works
It can also be a good thing: given the EU's 2027 requirement for user-replaceable batteries, this could ensure the battery can only be changed if the phone isn’t stolen.

If removing the battery requires an electrical current, it wouldn't be surprising if, in the future, Apple adds another layer of control, like requiring a digital signature to authorize battery removal
al_al··on Show HN: DualShock calibration in the browser using WebHID
it does ask for permission, but a malicious website could ask it for a valid reason and then brick it, yup. On the other side, a controller should not be brickable via HID commands...

Is it a DS V1 or V2? What is the build date of the firmware?

What is the build date of your firmware? Sometimes updating the firmware to the latest version solves any issue

Yes, that's the point! I suggest to try calibration in temporary mode (center calibration has a checkbox in the wizard). See with https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad if the controller is calibrated correctly, in that case redo calibration in permanent mode. That flashes the calibration in the controller.
al_al··on My cat water fountain comes with a spicy USB power adapter
Few years ago I bought a 12V led strip from aliexpress, it came with a usb charger. A "12V" USB charger. You can easily guess who put it near other chargers by mistake and then fried a PS4 controller trying to charge it with that :/

I'm trying to repair a strangely broken DS4. So broken it caused kernel panic when I connected to my laptop lol
al_al··on Save your project by crashing Maya when it's frozen
Here's a tool that may help your friendly neighborhood 3d artist. Sometimes Maya crashes and the crash handler saves the project for you. Sometimes Maya gets frozen and you have to kill it from the Task Manager while crying because you just lost your work. If that ever happened to you, this tool is what saves your life: CTRL+Click on the frozen Maya and it shows (99% of the times :P) the crash handler, saving your project.
