ake1··on Alacritty gets scrollback, publishes benchmarks
i would imagine konsole could be of interest as it's the default in KDE and not using libvte.
ake1··on Ultimate Hacking Keyboard
to have it transfer between different computers i would assume.
ake1··on Ultimate Hacking Keyboard
got a keyboard.io as well but gave up on trying to learn typing on ortho.
ake1··on NYU Makes Tuition Free for All Medical Students
would not increasing the base level of education decrease the chance of the currently ruling party staying in power? does not seem like a wise course of action (edit: for them).
ake1··on Show HN: Markdown New Tab – A new tab replacement to jot down notes in Markdown
just fork it and add your "quick access" at the top of the page?

i've been using a custom new-tab-page extension for a long time, it even comes with an integrated alarm-clock!

ake1··on Show HN: Qeys.io – Web app license validation
if it's for internal use, you most likely have access to the DNS-server the clients are using, not an unlikely scenario when it comes to licensed code like this i would imagine.
ake1··on Qt for WebAssembly Technology Preview
i would assume they are not contributing but if i wanted to find out if they did, i'd ask them. should be fairly easy to validate if you know what they're contributing to.

while i agree with your point about this being sub-optimal for both software-development and free software as a whole, i think it is a separate issue.

ake1··on Qt for WebAssembly Technology Preview
the only widely used license that i know of that would get violated by this kind of use (i think) is the AGPL.
ake1··on Gitlab 10.5 released
it's a nice feature to have but adding a repo via the web interface didn't take more than a few seconds at most. not quite sure what config & setup you are referring to other than the name of the repo, not a whole lot of other things need to be specified, if any.
ake1··on Show HN: Cross-platform desktop applications with PyQT
if they are identical, why would i choose to open up a bundled web browser when the one i already have opened works just fine and can display the web page just as well?
ake1··on Why Create a New Unix Shell?
UP in bash swaps the commandline to your previous command, it does not search in your history. either way, please don't move your fingers all the way to your arrow keys for this.
ake1··on Announcing TypeScript 2.7
are you not making his point for him?
ake1··on A minimalist guide to tmux
start using keyboards that allow you to use left ctrl with your palm instead of your pinky, it's a life saver.
ake1··on Firefox’s new streaming and tiering compiler
do you know of any ongoing work?
ake1··on Convert React JavaScript Code to TypeScript with Proper Typing
you don't actually have to manage type definitions for your own code (unless you're referring to typing parameter/return values), just things that you eg. fetch from the backend. those can be trivially generated by a tool from sample json or you can generate it all from things like OpenAPI.
ake1··on Many packages suddenly disappeared
i use yarn-offline-mirror and save all tarballs in the repository, works fairly well.
ake1··on DeepScan now supports 100+ rules for JavaScript and React
i can't seem to find the download link nor your repository.
ake1··on VS Code Roadmap 2018
using it for actual editing is on it's way as well.
ake1··on My personal site is a terminal
Less well played: Ctrl+w

Granted this does happen a lot on all other sites when typing but being in a terminal much instantly triggered it.

ake1··on It’s EasySetting Up React and Webpack
converting an aurelia project from jspm/esnext to use webpack/typescript with a bunch of plugins/deps like ui-virtualization, d3, bootstrap-datepicker etc. is however not that easy.
ake1··on Developers who use spaces make more money than those who use tabs
i'm surprised people manually insert tabs/spaces. vim automatically indents for me and even if it didn't, formatting the code is one keybind away...
ake1··on Fish (Shell) for a Week
i've been using fish for well over a year and my only complaints have been the breaking of functionality in point releases and the availability of up to date versions in standard repositories. the concept of on demand loaded functions instead of aliases (although fish has those too) is great.
ake1··on Tmux and Vim – better together
i used to use tmux but when i migrated to neovim i started using its built in terminal for multiplexing instead.
ake1··on Facebook Announces React Fiber, a Rewrite of Its React Framework
just got rid of a project using a 10 year old custom patched ant.
ake1··on Electron is flash for the desktop (2016)
add nashorn so you have a spare javascript vm just in case...
ake1··on DuckDuckGo Donates $300K to Raise the Standard of Trust Online
i too wish ddg had better search results but i think most of what makes google's results better is the tracking...
ake1··on Five arrests in 'fully loaded' Kodi streaming box raids
i seed about that much per hour...not using the bandwidth for anything else so no reason not to.
ake1··on Arch Linux – Best Distro Ever? (Update with Pacaur and Linux-Zen)
I love arch and would be using it if my hardware worked better out of the box. Having to tinker with blacklisted drivers and manual pulseaudio configuration is only fun the first couple of times. Nowadays I just install xubuntu and add bspwm on top and everything works.
ake1··on Streama – A self-hosted streaming application with your own media library
I've tried a lot of these and I really want to like them (plex/kodi) but the gui is way too hard to use, I feel like I'm in a straitjacket and always revert to the command line. Mount your content, be able to sort it through with ls/grep/find...queue up files...whatever. If I'm watching a series I'll just fire up ranger for one-button next functionality.
ake1··on Ask HN: How viable is it to run Linux in a VM, on a laptop?
i'm running debian in vmware workstation player on windows 7 at work as i'm unable to run it as the os on the laptop* (thinkpad t440s). it's not great but it's a whole lot better than not doing it.

the performance penalty for gui applications is fairly obvious (sluggish) but most of the things i'm running wouldn't work (containers etc.) or are actually faster (eg. rm -rf node_modules && npm install). being a couple of years old the battery is pretty much non-existant either way so i can't comment on that and i'm not using shared folders either (not using the host os at all).

* not because it's not possible, org policy.
