ajolly··on We will be shutting down neeva.com
I'm luckily grandfathered in, but I know a fair number of my searches are just coming from me having a background tab open with search results to come back to later.
ajolly··on Show HN: Willow – Open-source privacy-focused voice assistant hardware
How is a Lite limited? My understanding is it's an ESP Box without touch/stand, but otherwise the same. Not quite sure why the Box retails for 28% more

ajolly··on Pixel phones are sold with bootloader unlocking disabled
Samsung won't even let you unlock their US phones bootloaders.
ajolly··on JanOS: Turn your phone into an IoT board (2015)
It's very different in the US. It's impossible to unlock the bootloaders, get root, etc. Occasionally someone finds a vuln, but as a general rule, no rooting etc samsung phones in the US :/
ajolly··on Junk drawer phone as a music streaming server
Thanks, didn't realize I could do that
ajolly··on Dropbox telemetry can't be disabled
That's been my experience with syncthing sadly
ajolly··on Ask HN: Is split keyboard worth the effort?
Check out keeb.io's Sinc. They just came out with rev3. I was using a few md770s until the sinc came out
ajolly··on Ask HN: Is split keyboard worth the effort?
Why not both? You can use a splittkl like a md-770 or a Sinc, gets you a better posture while having virtually non-existent learning curve. Function keys and everything. The Sinc will get you qmk in case you want to use more esoteric features to reduce finger movement, but you don't have to.
ajolly··on GitHub Copilot X – Sign up for technical preview
That's no longer the case for Windows 11, or if I remember correctly later versions for Windows 10.
ajolly··on DPReview.com to close
One thing I love about my A7S is the ability to tilt the screen and take candid photos of people while we're having a conversation. Also that thing pretty much shoots in the dark so I find that magic.
ajolly··on Sleep habits may have long-term benefits
Can you share more about this apparatus, or what made your doctor think you needed this? Were you investigating sleep issues or dental issues or what.
ajolly··on Sleep habits may have long-term benefits
Mirtazapine ended up giving me blurred vision
ajolly··on Google: Turn off VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling: severe Exynos modem vulnerabilities
Does that make it easier to get root on a US-based Samsung phone? Or US band compatible anyways?
ajolly··on Microsoft 365 Copilot – your copilot for work
Windows 22h2 has some pretty good voice to text options built in, "voice access preview"

I've actually stopped using dragon, or talon in favor of the built-in tools, at least for dictation.

ajolly··on I created an eBay account and bought an item, today I got indefinitely suspended
That was back when eBay was charging fees on the purchase price but not on shipping
ajolly··on TabFS – a browser extension that mounts the browser tabs as a filesystem
Change is good. I find using a variety of mice helps. Rollermouse, trackpads, rockmouse, carpal tunnel mouse(quadraclicks), mousetrapper.

For the dragging wrist problem, I really like the reloot or other similar gliding palm rests. I find upgrading them with ceramic lights makes a big difference.

ajolly··on Multi-Account Containers
Wait, Firefox handles extension preferences globally? This is exactly what I've been wishing Chrome would do. I've spent a ton of time writing weird scripts and hacking Chrome to copy and sync various extension preferences from one profile to another.

Of course ideally I could specify specific extensions to work globally vs per profile.

(I'm perfectly fine having different profiles use different windows)

ajolly··on How I Use My Mouse
They still make the g604. One feature I like is it'll connect via USB, Bluetooth, or their own dongle which gives you higher refresh rate and better reliability than Bluetooth.
ajolly··on How I Use My Mouse
Logitech has a mouse firmware tool you can run specifically to program the mouse without needing to load any of the bloated software. It's a standalone portable utility.
ajolly··on How I Use My Mouse
G604, 15 buttons. Love it.
ajolly··on The $20 an hour Cessna 172 experiment (2020)
Not sure how it cross applies to flying, but I can anecdotally say I had way more accidents and speeding tickets driving unmedicated for adhd.
ajolly··on Ask HN: Something you’ve done your whole life that you realized is wrong?
Absolute best thing I've found has been silk glove liners, and then cutting the tips off to make them fingerless. For some reason almost all the fingerless gloves you can buy cover half of the finger, not 3/4 of the finger.
ajolly··on The Disappearance of the Ashtray
Is the benefit specific to cigarettes, or does gum/lozenges give you the same stress benefit reduction?
ajolly··on Setting the clock ahead to see what breaks
And that explains why I've had issues trying to use that reg flag Thanks for the info!
ajolly··on For your next side project, make a browser extension
What do you like about your extension versus session buddy? I use session buddy all the time for the same reason for the same reason.
ajolly··on For your next side project, make a browser extension
Creating and modifying browser extensions have been one of the most useful quality of life utilities ive written.

I'm dreading the switch to V3, I'll have to figure out what I can port over and how to do so :/

ajolly··on Function keys productivity trick
Love mine. There's an advanced launcher plugin for "run or raise" functionality.

I've got a little script to do the same for web pages, but I have an extended it yet to search for any open tab rather than just the ones that are currently active in the top window. I deal with this by having websites specific launchers.

ajolly··on Min: A fast, minimal browser that protects your privacy
Much better search results. I recently been switching over myself.
ajolly··on Min: A fast, minimal browser that protects your privacy
Thank you for drawing this distinction. I had not mentally realized the difference before, this makes me interested in trying TUI programs. Will go check lynx out today.
ajolly··on Min: A fast, minimal browser that protects your privacy
That's interesting, I'll have to go take a deeper look. Seems similar to Memex (WorldBrain)
