ajay-b··on New York passes law that will ban all gas-powered car sales by 2035
But Tesla is the only EV dealer that can sell in New York. New York does not allow other manufacturers to sell directly to consumers. They must go through a dealer.

ajay-b··on Apple blocked the FlickType Watch keyboard then announced a clone of it
Classic Apple.
ajay-b··on Alabama man dies after being turned away from 43 hospitals as Covid packs ICUs
Oh my God you’re not kidding! Is this kind of information available for other hospital systems in America? A visualization of this data might be just the ingredient that is needed to deliver a sobering message.
ajay-b··on UK faces 'permanent' food shortages
This was bemoaned prior to Brexit, but once again is hyperbole.
ajay-b··on Man sentenced for charging businesses inflated prices in printer toner scam
What a terrible Person. My first job in America was a receptionist position. I would be called by people with questions regarding our Xerox toner and copiers all the time. My supervisor instructed me to hang up on them so I did.
ajay-b··on Britney Spears’s Father Files to End Her Conservatorship
Sounds like someone may not wish to sit for a deposition.
ajay-b··on The ACLU, Prior to Covid, Denounced Mandates and Coercive Measures for Pandemics
The ACLU is now a political organization aligned with the Democratic party. Even Ira Glasser it’s former, longtime director agrees the ACLU has lost its way.

ajay-b··on Baltimore student passes 3 classes in 4 yrs, top half of class with 0.13 GPA
I don’t see anything here that discusses why he didn’t attend school. Was it transportation? Violence? Did he just not want to go? You must attend class, that’s half the equation. What was preventing him from attending class?
ajay-b··on Cannabis use and myocardial infarction in young adults: a cross-sectional study
A history of MI was more frequent among recent cannabis users (n = 61 of 4610, 1.3%) relative to nonusers (n = 240 of 28 563 [0.8%], adjusted odds ratio [OR] 2.07, 95% CI 1.12–3.82).

One point three percent. Someone tell Willy Nelson before its too late.

ajay-b··on ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' from website after activist arrested
This is just ridiculous.. If they receive a notice to log your IP address, they should notify you first. My trust in ProtonMail is gone.
ajay-b··on Ask HN: What would it take for you to stop using Hacker News?
I would very much like to see more sites like HN.
ajay-b··on The mystery of Truman Capote's final novel
I wonder why the article made such a glaring omission of Capote’s former partner, Jack Dunphy.
ajay-b··on TikTok overtakes YouTube for average watch time in US and UK
I think the reason people use it is the reason why people still use dating apps. Choice is infinite. Every time you swipe, is a new person, a new video, a new hit of dopamine. An insatiable appetite for something new. It is also power. With the dating apps it’s the power to dismiss someone with a swipe, no need to waste time looking at their profile. In TikTok there are no YouTube ads, and you can swipe quickly past videos that don’t spike interest (dopamine).
ajay-b··on Media trust hits new low
Journalists have evolved into an enemy of the people as they promote their personal, and corporate political beliefs on the rest of us, while passing it off as “just the facts.” I think journalism lost its “inform the public” mantle many years ago as journalists saw the power they had. As another commentor said, burn it to the ground, the media and journalism in general is forever poisoned against the people.
ajay-b··on [dead]
An interesting argument. Is it a moral question, or philosophical, to extend life as long as possible? To further complicate that, what is a reasonable extension of life? Is it to replace the heart, lungs, all of the major organs? Is there a dividing line between the extension of life and the creation of a “ghost in the shell” ?

I don’t know. It is a hard question.

ajay-b··on Supporting Bitcoin == Supporting Global Warming
I’ve made quite a bit of money on cryptocurrency. For some of us, perhaps many of us, it’s been a net positive.

How much did you lose?

ajay-b··on What the Heck Happened to Rollerblading? (2017)
When I moved to America I was given a pair of Rollerblades and nearly got myself killed. It required a skill I could not safely master.
ajay-b··on Why California liberals turn into raging conservatives over housing
The article begins by assuming liberal goals are progress. Perhaps it should begin with an unbiased view of California.
ajay-b··on Why do they burn a man at Burning Man?
I am very surprised that there has not been a Burning Woman movement, figuratively at least.
ajay-b··on What Is the Best Age to Circumcise? A Medical and Ethical Analysis
Tha arguments for ending circumcision are focused on pain at birth, and pleasure later in life. Science seems to not care one way or another with many arguments on both sides. Why is it such an issue, though, for the public square? I think it’s up to the parents to decide based on their personal beliefs.
ajay-b··on Man charged with indecent exposure at LA spa after viral Instagram video
Another example of the mob reacting before the facts. I am curious if the internet had made mob reactions easier, more frequent, or just more visible.
ajay-b··on Apple to Delay iPhone Update That Could Scan Device for Illegal Content
Apple has never truly backed away from anything, we simply “don’t understand” this new feature. As many here noted, Apple will retreat and then when the furor has died down, slowly bring this in a surprise update.
ajay-b··on Alibaba to invest $15.5B for “common prosperity”
I feel like Jack etc. didn’t have a choice…
ajay-b··on Apple announces first states to adopt driver’s licenses and IDs in Apple Wallet
I have considered it a possible convenience to have identification on my phone, but only as a backup to a hard copy.
ajay-b··on Windows 11 available on October 5
But I don’t want Windows 11. Windows 10 works just fine.
ajay-b··on At the world's oldest social housing, rent hasn't changed since 1521
It is always helpful when you have a wealthy supporter.
ajay-b··on Black entrepreneurs struggle to join legal weed industry
tl;dr Systematic racism has made it harder for blacks to afford the regulatory and business costs to legal marijuana businesses.
ajay-b··on Disgraced Theranos founder will blame ‘abusive’ ex-boyfriend in fraud trial
I think many people saw this coming, but she would place all the blame on him, and claim she was just an innocent young woman who was taken advantage of.
ajay-b··on Colorado county's voting machines banned after security breach
I agree, the overly complex use of machines, followed by closed door counting, lends it self too much to impropriety. I think America has mostly honest elections, but after last year‘s election I am… Uneasy about the whole system. Simple is better.
ajay-b··on US special operations vets carry out daring mission to save Afghan allies
Why are they reporting this in the media?
