Watching the Netflix doco Grass is Greener, I was struck with the irony that the people who originally popularized the herb, and for whom you could say it's part of their culture...are sort of 'regulated out' of participating. It's pretty sad...And seems evil--like an evil masterplan someone came up with to go, 'how can we take this good, powerful thing from this group, and give it to the exclusive use of this other group, while preventing the original group from controlling it?' in a very reductive economic reading...but while I'm sure there's an element of that, probably, I bet there's also way more factors involved in this complex process....
But it is a weird ironic moment for American latins and blacks who are considering this topic and see many in jail on long sentences for drug crimes that are now decriminalized, and consider how they are not the kingpins of an industry they basically started...
I can see why black people have a lot of anger against the system in America...I don't know how that can be resolved, and the future of racial identity and interaction it doesn't look pretty, and seems to just lead to more conflict...I also don't know why anyone would originally think that racist policies would be a good idea? It was only ever going to block back and create karma and a situation that was hard to resolve...Nobody wins, not in the long term in this...Why so much useless racism? I don't know. Human nature, I guess. Ape brain shit.
