afsina··on Kotlin/Native v0.6 is Here
Dart story is a little different AFAIK.

Flutter uses Dart. Flutter targets Android and IOS. IOS does not allow JIT. So they had to make AOT compilation (native) for Dart. Even before Dart 2.0 work started. In Android, first they used JIT but switched to AOT there as well. JIT is used in Dart console applications (server).

The biggest change with Dart 2.0 is that it uses a sound type system (strong mode).

This is never a justification. Read war of Vendee.

Is that an excuse?
afsina··on Greeks are abandoning cigarettes in record numbers
I don't think so. In Turkey it first seemed working. High taxation caused decline in consumption . Then, inevitably smuggling and tobacco shops that sell open tobacco bloomed. Besides, smokers with lower income got a hit. They cannot quit and smoke anyway. Now there are even more smokers than before.

afsina··on A Neuroscientist Explores the “Sanskrit Effect”
When I was young I had a chance to meet two very young huffaz (we say hafız) candidate. They were probably around 10 to 12 years old. What fascinating was, they did not know any Arabic and memorize almost more than a full page a day continuously. I remember them as very calm and nice kids. Also for the context, there are around 77.000 words in Koran.

I think this is a much lower level thing.

Care to provide a reference? Also I do not think it matters. At least one of them is a prominent economist.
afsina··on Bitcoin Is Evil (2013)
I follow a podcast dedicated to his fallacies (contrakrugman). He may be an expert on some issues, but he fails in many others, some miserably. He was clueless about Bitcoin years ago perhaps he learnt some now but his credibility on the issue is rather low.

I have not read the book, but just the title reminded me I probably belong to a minority group that do not believe neither "equality" nor "democracy".
afsina··on A Putin Aide Is Eyeing Cryptocurrencies to Beat Sanctions, Report Says
"rogue regimes" "terrorist states" and "sanctions" sounds like government inventions and scare words to me.
afsina··on South Korea considers cryptocurrency tax
Yes there were other boom and busts. But Keynes makes sure of it. According to Hayek (and many others), Keynesian spending policies are not a solution to unemployment or economic crises. On the contrary, they are a real threat to economic stability.
afsina··on South Korea considers cryptocurrency tax
Too much love for paternal government? Please let adults decide their own fate. Most people are smarter than you think. Ok, there are also idiots in tail of the curve but so what?
afsina··on South Korea considers cryptocurrency tax
All your points are positively good things.

1- Limited supply prevents money printing and inflationary theft. Besides there are many coin alternatives and a BTC can be divided to a hundred million units.

2- No `central` authority is a big plus (probably the best property of it). Once crypto coin pass its infancy, the volatility will be much lower.

3-Ease of access. Another superb property.

afsina··on South Korea considers cryptocurrency tax
Or, Keynes was wrong and he is responsible with all the boom and bust cycles and inflationary theft.
afsina··on Portugal’s radical drug policy is working. Why hasn’t the world copied it?
Governments heavily tax tobacco with the hope of lowering the associated health costs (and tax money is always juicy). But almost all the time it backfires and these happen: -People just keep smoking -It creates an economical burden in house holds with smokers because of the prices and difficulty of quitting -Smuggling or bad quality tobacco consumption increases.

So, like most things government does, intervention with good intentions creates more problems. IMO, government should not interfere with it, and smokers should not get cheap health insurance (or none from government).

afsina··on It Looks Like Nobel Economics Laureates Don't Like Bitcoin
I think they do not understand it well. Or, they do understand, but it just rubs them the wrong way. Probably because they are either ardent money printing Keynesians or all-powerful-state loving social-democrats.
afsina··on Time to release the internet from the free market – and make it a basic right

Left always says "we". No, this is a terrible idea and I am not part of that "we". Talk for yourselves (call it socialists or whatever) please.

How about Flutter with Dart? It uses AOT so plays well with IOs. But granted, their approaches are very different as Flutter renders most things by itself.

Population matters (31M vs 5M-9M). Besides Nordics have much freer markets and they do not confiscate private property like this.

That is why most likely they will not succeed in economical sense. Commercial tech space is just way too fast for governments to follow efficiently.
