afghanPower··on I was just subjected to the most credible phishing attempt I’ve experienced
Extremely hard. Maybe you could buy an ad space and "outrank" them that way. Have to pass Google's ad approval process though.
afghanPower··on Bitcoin Exchanges Are Buckling While the Price Surges Past 16,000
Yet the solution Bitcoin supporters have to slow transactions etc. is Lightning network which in principle makes transactions centralized.
afghanPower··on Bitcoin Exchanges Are Buckling While the Price Surges Past 16,000
Lightning network destroys the whole reason why you would use bitcoin -> decentralization.
afghanPower··on Why I love Go
Better than C and Python.. Examples?
afghanPower··on Lightbot: Puzzles Game Using Programming Logic
I wish that was available for Android/PC/Linux.
afghanPower··on Carp, a compiled Lisp with type inference and a borrow checker
My first thought as well.
afghanPower··on Show HN: Gophercises – Coding Exercises for Budding Gophers
Probably using this FREE course as an upsell to his paid course. Still. Kudos to the creator. FREE is free. Thank you.
afghanPower··on Social-Media App Musical.ly Is Acquired for as Much as $1B
Phew. I am not the only one.
afghanPower··on Don Jayamanne, creator of Python extension for VS Code, joins Microsoft
Startup time can be fixed by running Emacs as a daemon on boot. (Not sure if that's possible with Windows) For keybindings you can just use evil and get vim keybindings. But yeah, Emacs is not easy to get started with, though I feel it's worth spending time getting used to it.

Why not Emacs? Just curious.
afghanPower··on A man who 'discovered' 780 Indian languages
Correct me if I'm wrong, but most Indians do understand "urdu", no?
afghanPower··on Ubuntu 17.10 Final Beta Is Ready For Testing

afghanPower··on Show HN: Ice – WSGI microframework to develop small web applications in Python
Yeah, my first thought as well. The Rich Hickey spirit is leaking..
afghanPower··on Reasonable Scala Compiler
Clojure(Script) can do the same.
afghanPower··on Important security vulnerabilities in OpenVPN
I bought mine from https://i-83.net/ It's £4.50/year, but you can probably find promotion codes that'll make it cheaper.

Have also heard good things about http://lowendspirit.com/

(sorry for the late reply)

afghanPower··on Important security vulnerabilities in OpenVPN
Yup. Most VPNs with decent bandwith cost $4/month. You can get pretty much the same service for $4/year if you buy a cheap NAT VPS server and spend 10 minutes setting up openvpn.
afghanPower··on D Language accepted for inclusion in GCC
D seems like a more useful Rust, or is that completely wrong?
afghanPower··on BCHS stack – BSD, C, httpd, SQLite
This is such an obvious joke. Chill my friends.
afghanPower··on My experience using Hackintosh low-end PC for 3 years
Nothing beats minimalistic design. Too bad the majority thinks more is more.
afghanPower··on Clojure Linear Algebra Refresher: Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors
Those are standard function names in most lin-alg related packages.
afghanPower··on Google could face a $9B EU fine for rigging search results in its favour
You somehow managed to contradict yourself in just a couple of sentences.
afghanPower··on Universities finally realize that Java is a bad intro programming language
Rust and Go should probably also be considered for b), don't you think?
afghanPower··on Tmux and Vim – better together
For people wanting to try i3/awesomeWM/anotherTilingWM: Learn all the keyboard shortcuts, not just the basic ones. Spend some time on perfecting the configuration for you. Make keybindings that make sense to you.

Tip: Once you realize that you can make everything tabbed/stacked, your workflow becomes really fluent.

Example:

Workspace 1:

    Stacked (left):
        VIM - ASM / C
        terminal
    Stacked (right):
       ddd
       firefox (stackoverflow ftw)
afghanPower··on Billionaire Mike Novogratz says 10% of his money is in Bitcoin and Ether
Might as well throw away that three comma painting and those comma pillows, eh? (Looking forward to season 4!!)
afghanPower··on Harvard Thinks It's Found the Next Einstein – And She's 23
It's probably not meant in a negative way; just badly worded.

Even in Norway where girls have an easier way into physics and math studies, there is a significant majority of males in those classes.

afghanPower··on My Text Editor Journey: Vim, Spacemacs, Atom and Sublime Text
Tried it. Very uncomfortable navigation. Installed a couple of plugins (evil is one of them) and Emacs mostly do the same stuff as my nvim right now, except for being superior for Clojure development.
afghanPower··on Lisping on the GPU [video]
When was this meetup? Shame I didn't know about it :(
afghanPower··on Introducing Sketch: A Playground for React Native from Expo (YC S16)
Quick question for the creators: Isn't updating apps without running them through Apple against their TOS?
afghanPower··on JavaScript Start-up Performance
I think more people should look into Clojurescript with it's advanced optimizations which I believe could help achieve the goal of "shipping less javascript".
afghanPower··on The woes of Windows 10
I get (maybe) your argument when it comes to Windows 7 -> Windows 10, but I think you're overestimating how hard it is to get up and running with Arch Linux. Following an Arch install tutorial shouldn't take anyone here on Hackernews more than 2 hours to get their DE, networking etc. up and going.

You should try it. It's fun!
