I think this is because the approach isn't that different the mentality was. Encoder only classification isn't new. General encoder only classification isn't new. Gliner2 was something similar for parsing. But what they did is provide a new way to look at a sub-class of problems. They opened a lot of people's eyes, including my own, to the demand for applications in this subsection of the market.

But once you have the mental shift, everything else has been done before. So it's not super hard to build something similar for your own use case.

Is this clear? The model has a waitlist and isn't publicly available. How can you claim it's proficient at general tasks?
adroitboss··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
This is basically what they have. https://github.com/fastino-ai/GLiNER2
adroitboss··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
I'll tell you this. Output isn't too cheap to meter, there is no decoder.
adroitboss··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
I am positive I know exactly how this works, I made something similar a few months back. But the problem is without generation you are extremely limited in the use cases. And while the model can't hallucinate, it can still be wrong. It just can't make up data.
adroitboss··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
Imprecise and incorrect are the same thing when it comes to an exact science. His predictions include dates and that makes them binary. You can only be right or wrong. Being close is still incorrect, and he's not even close.
adroitboss··on GLM-5.3-Flash
This is exactly what Jenson said in all of his interviews. Banning it in the short term would have long term consequences.
adroitboss··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
I thought the exact same. There is also a growing problem with people using AI to summarize everything instead of reading the actual text. I thought this addressed that issue by having a section for the AI to help summarize or something similar.

I didn't expect Gemini 3.5 Flash to top basically every metric in this article.

How is this different from descript? It seems like descript, but you took out the video functionality?

Tell that to game theory.

What's stopping the non-profits that exist today from just putting more money into tokens to get the solutions they want?
adroitboss··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
If the source is a person instead of an LLM, you still wouldn't be able to evaluate what was said. This is nothing new.
adroitboss··on We don't use AI in any of our design or production processes
To me this is such a weird take. I'd imagine you don't have a clear understanding of how 95% of the things you interact with on a daily basis is made. So many things from Shampoos, to Microwaves, to your car, to how your coffee is sourced and made. You are perfectly fine giving away your full control and understanding to another intelligence/s for these things. This could be a bad idea, and historically has been for some people. They were eating food that contained things that weren't healthy for them or they are allergic to some product. However, a majority of people still live this way as long as most of them get a good result from the process. Most people only care about giving an input and getting the same output.

I paid $279 for crucial 96gb DDR5 5600 MHz SO-DIMM ram October 22 of last year. Amazon has the same kit going for $1,048.90 right now.

adroitboss··on Ask HN: Recommendation for a SWE looking to get up to speed with latest on AI
The best place for the latest information isn't tech blogs in my opinion. It's the stable diffusion and local llama subreddits. If you are looking to learn about everything on a fundamental level you need to check out Andrej Karpathy on YouTube. There other some other notable mentions in other people's comments.
adroitboss··on Adobe's new image rotation tool is one of the most impressive AI tools seen
I was just about to post the same link. It is really cool tech and Smack Studio is when I first fell in love with the concept. What Adobe has is cool, but I've seen it already.
adroitboss··on Rearchitecting: Redis to SQLite
You may want to check out LiteFS and LiteStream by benbjohnson. There was a time in 2022 where he was trending every week for his projects. The following snippet is taken from the LiteFS webpage. "LiteFS is a distributed file system that transparently replicates SQLite databases. You can run your application like it’s running against a local on-disk SQLite database but behind the scenes the database is replicated to all the nodes in your cluster."

I remember seeing you debate Jason Calacanis from the all in podcast on this week in startups on this exact topic. You are probably one of the most confident, well spoken people I have ever heard on a podcast. You also don't derive your comfort from the people around you, so you didn't feel the need to laugh away awkward moments. It's a great watch. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5hUT8VZNvm8&t=3488s&pp=ygUhVGh...
adroitboss··on FCC rules AI-generated voices in robocalls illegal
I don't know left from up in this situation, but I was under the impression outgoing calls are illegal, not inbound calls.
adroitboss··on Virtual Reality: still not quite there, again (2017)
"Or hey, even more amusingly, a killer app could be something B2B, like enabling remote robotic work, where the worker’s commands get recorded and become training data for autonomous robotic systems. This is the core premise of my short story on AI, which I can now plug here. woohoo!"

I actually thought this is where the next big AI company would come from. A gaming company that created a game that also had a business use case. They would use the data from that game to train ML models that were capable of doing work. If someone were able crowd source some AI robot training through gaming, they would be paid by consumers and by businesses. Kind of like how captcha digitized books in the backend.

adroitboss··on DeskHop – Fast Desktop Switching
This looks great! I need to look into it. For a little while I have used a combination of a KVM Switch and Mouse without Bordershttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=354... to switch between my computer and the laptop I have on my desk. It would be great to have a local-only option. The application would need to copy the contents of my clipboard from one computer to the next, a feature I don't think I can live without.
adroitboss··on Jarvis: A Voice Virtual Assistant in Python (OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Deepgram)
This has happened already. It was maybe about 7 months ago and I believe it was a twitter link posted here. They took it further and streamed it to twilio to create a live phone call.
