3. My idea was to keep the domain name short and find the one which is available :). So its' mix of Tweet + Thought = Tweeght.
4. I've seen many people just post their insights, interesting observations, inspiring quotes, etc. So is the idea :)
I launched http://tweeght.com a few days ago. It's a Twitter based application to share your thoughtful and insightful tweets with #tweeght tag. Other users can Vote up, Retweet or Reply to your tweets.
The idea was born out of simple necessity - to share my thoughts, and follow thoughts from other interesting people on the Twitter. But due to other noise available on the Twitter, these thoughtful tweets were getting buried, and were hard to discover. So I created Tweeght in one week. Instead of following such tweets from interesting people in real time, I can just read interesting Tweets voted up by others.
So please review the application and let me know your all kinds of inputs.
- Do you find it useful?
- How was the usability, design and performance?
- Do you have suggestions, ideas to take it to next level?
Also, if you like this app, then I'll really appreciate if you could promote it amongst your Twitter followers.
Thanks a ton in advance for your inputs,
- Aditya
I'm not saying it's not a good approach. Rather I'm researching such an idea which targets premium customers who prefer personalization/customization. And that's when my friend responded that she wouldn't pay for my premium service since there are free or cheaper options available, which also "get things done".
Yes, people pay for premium content but in this economy, businesses which are dependent on premium features will be the first ones who get setbacks.
My $0.02s of course.
don't blame that developer. blame Twitter for doing lousy job. Look at how FriendFeed handles Password requirement by giving Remote Key.
Developers are not happy to ask users passwords in text format. They simply don't have other option.
Instead of paying $30 for printed book, I'd pay $5 for online book with no ads.
Paper books are so one-way communication. Online books are interactive with 2-way communication abilities.
Picture is worth of 1000 words. So paper books now add images. Now video is worth of 100,000 words. What's wrong in adding Videos in the book?
And most importantly, I cannot search something in paper books. That's the single most reason all paper books should be converted into online books. That advantage surpasses all these negligent disadvantages by huge margin.
My $0.02s of course!
Thanks again.
Wanna help me and join the forces in spreading the word to more people and have a nice focused site for hardware folks?

Once I started get going with my actual application, I started reading more details of PHP as on when required. But MVC helped to accelerate my process of building the real thing instead of investing of time in reading tutorials.
Also, I found these tutorials are good for plain PHP - http://www.phpro.org/tutorials/ . It also explains the MVC and all. So you might want to read these tutorials, and then start with Symfony.
I hope this helps.
Just because you are a YC alumni startup, does it make sense to launch every feature here?
Another thing which annoys me about YC startups is - to get immediate attention, they add "(YC Summer/Winter 08/09)" in the title of their post, and other YC alumni vote up immediately. And the post comes to the front page. I'm tired of these tricks!
Please, there are many startups launching many features every single day. Launching search feature is not a news. Launching a startup is a news. So I would appreciate if you can limit such releases to your blog only. If we are interested, we will follow your blog for feature releases.
Please don't take this personally. I meant this to all YC alumni startups who launch features as if it's a big press release on Hacker News using all above mentioned tricks.
Anyway, it was my $0.02s. Hope you agree to it.
so instead of keeping http://afterthepinkslip.com/ as a domain name, keeping generic domain name will help more.
i think people who did not get laid-off and simply looking for job search may find that this tool is not useful for them.
my $0.02s! overall, it's a nice utility.
BTW, when you say "aggressive about killing spams", you mean killing manually, right?

I've worked in a situation, where we were 2 co-founders, coming from technology background. It wasn't a Consumer Internet startup. So we couldn't wait to code in the room and then let "virality" spread out. We had to make new introductions, go to customers' site, present them what we are doing, understand what exactly they want, and then re-define spec based on majority of customer feedback. We were small tech team, in the process of building something. So we didn't have sales team. So we had to roll our sleeves, and pitch the customers. We couldn't wait until we hire sales guys. Once the startup grows, we'll hire sales team.
But my point was, we need to have that selling attitude - always.
You'll find approx. 34 traits of entrepreneurs that made them entrepreneurial that I've collected from different papers/blogs/books I read. The series is still ongoing - so if you find some more inputs, then let me know. I'll try to write about it.
