adaptbrian··on Google is overhauling search results with AI overviews and Gemini organization
Google will be an easy legal target in the mid term if they are too aggressive here
adaptbrian··on Does the American Diabetes Association work for patients or companies?
This is exactly how I felt when I went keto/low inflammation foods. Would have never expected it.
adaptbrian··on AI garbage is already polluting the internet
It is that easy, the thesis is already on the internet. reboot pagerank and dump the NLP. Flag sites that create content too fast and let users find webpages that match their query.

This would be difficult today because this would still be a niche thing as that ship has sailed since Google has tethered itself everywhere.

adaptbrian··on Chronic stress spreads cancer
My stress based disorder is cluster headaches and they literally feel like death and all I can say is don't rely on doctors to help, diet changes are not in most western based docs playbooks, drugs which cover up and masks the problems are, try heavily modifying diet, start going into ketosis and see if you feel better after a couple months. It took me 8 years and the best healthcare around to reach this point. Cold shock seems to quite stress/inflammation as well. These things are freely available.

Other non drug alternatives: Meditation, acupuncture, camping, horse back riding, walks, runs, swimming all seem effective at lowering stress as well from my exp.

adaptbrian··on Chromecast Google TV now has full-screen auto-playing Chicken Tender Wrap ads
I recently saw my first whole app ad takeover thing overtop of the YT app on android. I had to click out of it just to get to the app itself.
adaptbrian··on Patients say keto helps with mental illness. Science is racing to understand why
Ketosis will likely be what I credit for saving my marriage and actual life once science catches up with reasoning. The last year for me has been profound. Cluster headaches are mental warfare and ketosis has played a major role in my body's ability to chill the hell out. Can't wait to see more research here.
adaptbrian··on Florida House of Representatives approves bill to ban social media for kids < 16
Take it a step forward, ban Engagement based algorithmic feeds. I've said this and I'll continue to say this type of behavioral science was designed at FB by a small group of people and needs to be outlawed. It never should have been allowed to take over the new age monetization economy. There's so much human potential with the internet and its absolutely trainwrecked atm b.c of Facebook.
adaptbrian··on Why do some people feel tired all the time?
It's very difficult tbh, don't give up, it'll get easier after 30 days. Tips for me since I tend to integrate a intermittent fast in the morning is just make sure to drink enough water, it does a pretty good job of kicking your hunger and then you'll get into ketosis which is good. The docs will tell you as part of this you should expect to go back down to your high school graduating weight which I said no way at the time, but sure enough, to a T I'm back down to it and have stopped losing weight now and when /if I do splurge on junk I will feel it, so it makes my lifestyle easy to maintain now.
adaptbrian··on Why do some people feel tired all the time?
Anecdotal here but last year I changed my diet radically and completely swept away my daily tiredness and cyclical cluster headaches. First year in 7 years without one.

Largely I eat leafs and meats while keeping carbs down, keeping dairy low etc. It's not easy to make this adjustment but for me, where I was at physically I would try anything. Going to bed before the kids is for the birds.

My primary doc gave me the same rigamoure that you got so I finally kicked them to the curb and started a search for a new one. Found a doc who suggested the diet change and its worked well, I'll be working on adding some foods back in this year.

adaptbrian··on Is Google Getting Worse? A Longitudinal Investigation of SEO Spam in Search [pdf]
What you describe here in some order could be pointed at the fact they let someone who used to focus on Ads run all of organic search AND ads. This used to never happen, they had proper separation of church and state. The other part to blame imo is turning down the link graph, over reliance on NLP, and attempting to continue to prop up traffic to old media sites.

adaptbrian··on Analysing the Twitter User Exodus to Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads
"Hooked on content". Not sure society should have ever gotten to that point. You are talking about a small room of people who made this happen. It started at FB and perpetuated through to other networks. There was a time when everything was waterfall and you had to do a teancy amount of work to find things. (Just click the link in the share which you cant find anymore b.c the networks horde their traffic) Behavioral scientists have ruined social feeds and created conundrums like you describe above.
adaptbrian··on Where Have All the Websites Gone?
Wonder what that accountants ability to keep clients around looks like vs. Intentful Google searches, and what that market would look like.

You have to take the serious consideration that winning customers from tiktok is going to be a wildly different persona than from google.

Churn and burn practices are for folks who've not seen the 5th year of their used to be sustainable market crash when arbitrary platform dynamics change and they don't realize they've been working with the wrong type of client that whole time.

I work in Healthcare as well. It's just a giant farm so folks will take anyone who is alive and insured. I could see TokTik do well there.

adaptbrian··on Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access
Walled garden development practices sold under the guise of privacy and security. It's a very tired and old playbook that has real societal damage. So. Tired. Of. It.

adaptbrian··on Global trends in incidence, death, burden and risk factors of early-onset cancer
this sounds like the diet i started per the recommendation of my doctor after he kicked his migraines doing this. i am a long time sufferer of cluster headaches and this looks to be the first year ive been able to abate them for an entire cycle/year.

low carb, low inflammatory, high protein ratio combined with heady/meaty lettuces and non root veggies.

the american food pyramid is a farse and drastically needs to be updated.

adaptbrian··on Dementia risk linked to blood-protein imbalance in middle age
Have you tried heavily modifying your diet by chance? Removing carbs, lowering inflammatory foods, dairy and root veggies. Going down to a fasting diet in the morning. I'm optimistic that I'll never feel a cluster headache again.

Not much for head terms and even at the longtail, today. I've long thought rolling out googs algo from 2010 and getting away from all the prediction/neural network rewriting would be a good move for a new search engine.
