adamontherun··on Show HN: Semantic search over the National Gallery of Art
love that a search for 'chill vibes sculpture' returned a very chill set of results. nice step change in art search capabilities
adamontherun··on An "oh fuck" moment in time
I've found that having the coding assistant do large tasks like this unsupervised is the worst way to use it. Asking the assistant to do narrowly defined tasks and then checking the work is the only reliable way.

I've been using Cursor since the summer and wrote up a few tips here https://betaacid.co/blog/cursor-dethrones-copilot

adamontherun··on How I write code using Cursor
I've been working with Cursor for a few months. I learned quickly to stay away from the hype around creating entire features using Composer. Found a ton of value in using it to work with context from the codebase as well as external documentation.

adamontherun··on Drug Development Failure: how GLP-1 development was abandoned in 1990
Acquired had a great episode earlier this year that really connects with this. They talked about how Novo Nordisk stuck with GLP-1 research for decades, even when it didn’t seem like a sure thing.

A big part of that was Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, who pushed for GLP-1 research at Novo even when he faced a lot of skepticism and wasn't always treated well for it. Compare that with MetaBio—mentioned in the study—where Pfizer pulled the plug early and missed the boat entirely. Novo’s persistence, especially Thomsen's, led to Ozempic and Wegovy

There aren’t in reality

But service came back saying there were 4

adamontherun··on Margaret Mead, John von Neumann, and the Prehistory of AI
Great episode of the Lawfare podcast recently where Shane Harris interviewed Benjamin Breen about his book, Tripping on Utopia, which tells the story of how Mead’s research into expanded consciousness and psychedelics.

adamontherun··on MSW 2.0 – Mock Service Worker
we started using (and now contributing to) https://orval.dev/ this year which both generates the mocks using MSW as well as the client-side networking code (React Query in our case). It removes so much boilerplate its amazing.

this looks great Justin! I've always found Good Reads to be very unappealing.

adamontherun··on The Future of Podcasting
Founder of Remarks here. Currently, we're focussed on building a great platform for people to discuss the podcast their listening to with other fans and the host. We're trying to get as many hosts as possible on board.

An ad platform is something we've talked about, but I'd need to see a huge upswing in usage before building that out.

adamontherun··on Show HN: Remarks, social podcasting app for iOS
thank you. The value for the users is to be able to discuss the episode with other fans. Early uses so far have been to post links mentioned by the host, background bios and photos of guests, and some off-beat GIFs (of course).
adamontherun··on Show HN: Remarks, social podcasting app for iOS
thanks Chuck, Feed Rehab was my first iOS project and I'm still really fond of it. I found some interesting tweets using it that I didn't even remember writing.
adamontherun··on Why we killed 2/3rds of the features on our site before launch.
I'd like people to post ideas and stories from the book (paraphrased, not copy-pasted). You can also add a link to each story, giving it more context.

I got started on this for two reasons.

First, I retain way more of a book when I'm forced to actively think about it while reading. Just using the site as a beta-tester I've found myself getting more deeply immersed then usual.

Second, I always crave more context when I read. I want to see what others think about an idea. I also would love to see a video, webpage or slidedeck about a single idea to dig deeper.
