acollins1331··on Disney Is Placing Classic Fox Movies into Its Vault
You just described something that costs thousands of dollars to set up and thousands of dollars of added rent. Or we could just go to the movie theatre every couple weeks.

Hmm

acollins1331··on Ban Facial Recognition at Festivals
You honestly believe that deporting 11m people from this country would just drive up peoples wages? It wouldn't have incredible ripple effects across our economy as 5m jobs go un-done and many businesses go under? Maybe if you look at it on 30-40 year timescales things will stabilize, but you just ruined the lives of every american you said you want to help by starting a recession that would be much much worse than 2008.
acollins1331··on Ban Facial Recognition at Festivals
Okay so you think setting up FR at burning man so we can deport some people that went to burning man does any net good for society? Why? Because our culture is changing too quickly? Shameful.

Do you also think deporting the 11m people here illegally would be good for society? Protip: it would be devastating.

acollins1331··on Massachusetts Sues Exxon over Climate Change, Accusing the Oil Giant of Fraud
I'll give you a hint: it's not the company that lied about whether their product kills people and paid others billions to do it as well.

Exxon could've just been honest and oil would still have been sold and used and saved people, we could've just been using it more responsibly.

But they lied, for profit.

acollins1331··on Massachusetts Sues Exxon over Climate Change, Accusing the Oil Giant of Fraud
Sure, but lying about whether your product kills people is still a crime. They're not suing oil. They're suing Exxon for lying about it and funding lies.
acollins1331··on Ban Facial Recognition at Festivals
Why is it so important for you to kick them out?
acollins1331··on Schumer proposes $462B car swap – gas for electric
There are often multiple goals. My guess is the reason why something like this is picked over something carbon negative is because of the economy. You can downvote it but it's $462 billion into car companies and all their subsidiaries, which is something that tends to have broad public support.
acollins1331··on Schumer proposes $462B car swap – gas for electric
But buying new cars also helps the economy
acollins1331··on Lawmakers ask US intelligence chief to investigate TikTok
I agree with the other responses to your post. As a younger millenial that is on other social media apps, I saw tiktok as soon as it launched and have seen the aggressive marketing. Contrary to your point, I'm a little surprised it took so long for the MSM and old people to figure out what was going on. There's real money in being young and in-touch.

acollins1331··on U.S. senators want social media users to be able to take their data with them
They don't want that. They want to be able to ping facebook and get a universally readable source of everything about you.
acollins1331··on Why iOS 13 and Catalina Are So Buggy
This seems pretty far removed from most other people's experiences.
acollins1331··on The Demise of Physical Comedy
Good! Ill see videos where there are dozens of people just laughing at videos of people falling over or getting kicked in the nuts or something else painful to them... It's so cringe. When I see a video of a tree fall on someone's head I cringe and feel terrible, not laugh. People are psychopaths, maybe I'm just an empath.
acollins1331··on Mark Zuckerberg Has Quietly Advised Pete Buttigieg on Campaign Hires
The donor class has already picked Pete over Biden, look at fundraising hauls over the last quarter.
acollins1331··on Mark Zuckerberg Has Quietly Advised Pete Buttigieg on Campaign Hires
Buttigieg was a fantastic candidate until he made it big earlier this year. He's been courting rich donors and shifted a lot of his positions from before. He played up the idealist early on, but after figuring out he was going to run 3rd to Liz and Bernie the whole way out, he decided to shift into the young Joe Biden lane. I've been completely turned off by his campaign during this stretch, as it's obvious he just wants to become president and will do/say whatever he needs to to make that happen.
acollins1331··on California Can Expect Blackouts for a Decade, Says PG&E CEO
Broad brush strokes that have no basis in reality are a great way to see the world. You think there aren't conservatives who are just as shitty as the liberals you talk about? A: there are
acollins1331··on California Can Expect Blackouts for a Decade, Says PG&E CEO
As a person from West Virginia this is because you can rent a garbage trailer for like $200 a month there. There's also no jobs or hope, but plenty of meth. Yay!
acollins1331··on Taiwan managed to build high-speed rail. Why can't California?
Have you been to Taiwan? All the problems you just listed exist but even worse. You think Taichung has better public transportation than San Jose?
acollins1331··on Why Red Means Red in Almost Every Language (2015)
How could it be something other than linguistic? Do you think it's genetic?
acollins1331··on CVS turned a tobacco ban into a financial win
This is completely bunk. You could smoke a cigarette occasionally and it would be about as harmful as drinking a soda.
acollins1331··on US Law Enforcement Traces Bitcoin Transfers to Nab ‘Largest’ Child Porn Site
Seems like an abnormally high proportion. Hopefully it's just because of a small sample size and not indicative of a Catholic church level cover-up in our law enforcement circles.
acollins1331··on Depressed People See the World More Realistically (2017)
I was just replying to his post, not prescribing a cure for depression.
acollins1331··on Depressed People See the World More Realistically (2017)
I'm not prescribing a cure for depression. However, for people who are angry or sad about macro atrocities in teh world, it is good advice to rationally know that focusing on it is a waste of time.
acollins1331··on Yahoo Groups to remove all content December 14
Not necessarily a bad thing.
acollins1331··on Magic Mushrooms Can Help Smokers Kick the Habit
I just started playing WoW classic. People always ask me how I like it, seeing as I never played WoW before. I would describe it as not very fun, but incredibly addicting. I'd continue to elaborate but I have to go do some leatherworking...
acollins1331··on Depressed People See the World More Realistically (2017)
This. There are lots of bad things in the world that do happen. Maybe more bad then good. You have one life to live and sitting around being depressed or angry about them is just a waste of time.
acollins1331··on Open-source apps removed from Google Play Store due to donation links
Of course. No company will admit fault unless forced. The best PR move is wait for it to pass.
acollins1331··on Open-source apps removed from Google Play Store due to donation links
Wow great point. Now why the hell can't they have a donation link?
acollins1331··on By Quitting Social Media You Could Read 200 Books a Year
I was thinking about this last night and how I'm glad I don't read so many books. It seems like it would be hard to internalize a lot of the story. I used to read a lot more, and can think fondly on many of the books I read but cannot recall most plot details etc. Taking time to read a book, a few weeks, gives you time to digest it and ponder some of what it's saying, and create some long term memories as well! Gorging yourself on hundreds of books a year is probably only marginally better than doing the same with TV shows.
