achillesheels··on Obscure islands I find interesting
What about the Pitcairn Islands?
achillesheels··on I will never need to buy a new computer again
I was floored to see how miniPCs are bottom-barrel in pricing…interesting to see how this will trend with AI cpus in the next decade for overdriving automated tasks for persons…
achillesheels··on Satellite powered estimation of global solar potential
I think it has to do with the assurance of the warranty. The ROI is loooong; solar contractors can go out of business leaving the parts on the roof lacking in the promised energy savings. Who wants to litigate against a bankrupt company?
achillesheels··on Noninvasive imaging method can penetrate deeper into living tissue
Sorry meant 1200nm*
achillesheels··on Noninvasive imaging method can penetrate deeper into living tissue
What about NIR spectroscopy? It penetrates the bio window at >1200 microns now…not sure how this compares? I mean signal processing wise, I would assume NIR does the trick.
achillesheels··on What Is Software Anyways? Where Does It Exist?
Those “bytes” are necessarily reliant on magnetic dipole moments in physical space, and when operated upon instantaneously to convert into electricity to sustain a self-certain predestined architecture of electrical instructions sequenced through super-sophisticated wires etched. The completion of the circuit is what software code executes in a logically cohesive patterning of the voltage operations of the embedded transistors at nanscopic levels of switches of 0s,1s, and -1s in relation to human measurements of electric charge loads, capable of being transmitted through physical space to coordinate the next electrical movement in said wires.

It’s taken me a lot of years to get that figured out. Heh.

achillesheels··on Automating processes with software is hard
“A whole family of problems across domains…come down to effective state limitation.”

A fancy way of saying, “simplicity is the mark of truth.”

Or

“Less mechanical points of failure the better.”

I concur. Eliminate design risk.

achillesheels··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Ship the App" (2011)
What is the point where the company is eyed as stable for retirement goals? That’s where the subjective interests override the companies objectives and the growth of the company changes towards preservative rather than dangerous; wherein capital risk intrinsically is.
achillesheels··on The End of Advertising
Marketing AI has the chance of testing campaigns across a slew of otherwise unrecognizable demos/keywords…

I see AI consistently eliminating rational judgments from middle management seat fillers…MDs and scientists inclusive.

achillesheels··on Tumblr to move its half a billion blogs to WordPress
Hard to find a path to justify a $1B valuation. Cult content subscriber model? #meh
achillesheels··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
The Teachers Unions of America add value? I mean this respectively: are you a Democrat shill?

How on Earth can you generalize that? Look at the kids math literacy and obesity in CA. How is this bringing value to the team?

achillesheels··on You are not dumb, you just lack the prerequisites
Cannot be proven, physically. Mathematical truths prove themselves with their application to physical motion, e.g. Fourier Transformation, such extension of logical principles unto physical body sensations in contact with an external world is great evidence for myself that mathematical reasoning self-reliance in its ordering is great.
achillesheels··on Good refactoring vs. bad refactoring
>Good refactoring respects the idioms of the language and the culture of the organisation. Change to new methodology is thoughtful and probably slow, except when a revolution happens but then, its still respectful to the new culture.

Burkean programming lol

achillesheels··on Author-paid publication fees corrupt science and should be abandoned
Sorry but I have to disagree. It’s the only way I was able to be read.
achillesheels··on Keeping Secrets (2014)
Truth.

Good Courage towards improving human relations is necessary; resistance will always be.

achillesheels··on In ‘The Book Against Death,’ Elias Canetti rants against mortality
The human mind is subjectively indestructible, I.e. impervious to physically perishing (it is purely mathematically operational.) The body, that uniquely mapped to the person, can be reanimated indefinitely relying upon tissue engineering and neuroscientific knowledge progressing in unique human brain cell networks and respective central nervous system action.

We are less than 2 decades away from digitally migrating to a doppelgänger body.

achillesheels··on Self-Awareness Might Not Have Evolved to Benefit the Self After All
What a dangerous thought, so mathematical learning is predetermined what biological factors? Is not the conservation of the body’s metabolism in the utility of communication served more physically? The ability to fast and ascetic rituals are self-evident demonstration of human motor neural control away from baseline biological processes. Unless you can please explain a hypothesis for the development of motor control habits, e.g. for healthy socializing? I suppose better group balance by controlling the body’s autonomic nerves is an adaptive response, but who is the one to get the chain of being started? To the conscious activity the answer is: through random genetic assortment?
achillesheels··on Gallup: Confidence in higher education plunges to 36% from 57% in 2015
The lacking math requirements for understanding the Fourier Transform is alarming; the lack of bio electronic feedback diagramming of the human nervous system - and the lack of electrical scientific knowledge in the biological but especially social “science” departments is also scary.
achillesheels··on Leonhard Euler's Letters to a German Princess
I love how unapologetic Euler is with his belief in soul. Pretty striking to be connecting soil with the nervous system!
achillesheels··on A Revolution in Biology?
I disagree. An electromagnetic paradigm of cell life is critical to understanding predictive molecular dynamics, particularly where cellular neural recruitment is concerned. Moving passed mass and unto the mathematical perfection of electromagnetic radiation - as idealized as realized in the electrical engineering sciences - demonstrates its exaltedness in theoretical application.
achillesheels··on The messy quest to replace drugs with electricity
‘Body Electric’ is a great read on how electrical the body is, such as with wound repair. I wish the medical sciences could look at the body’s domain from an electromagnetic paradigm to understand the electrostatics of drugs, but better yet, map the bio electronic circuits completely. That will go a long way of being able to duplicate them for body tissue reincarnation and then “self-migration” into a fresh body with the equivalent neural networks in tact. The body reincarnate.
achillesheels··on Show HN: I built a website to create financial models for any stock online
I wish it had the ability to statistically correlate operating expenses or capital expenditures, for instance, with share-prices, especially for historical "backtesting", to determine if there is a positive or negative correlation.
achillesheels··on Show HN: I made a tool to find the best web hosting based on your needs
Pretty cool! I had not heard of inmotion hosting before, I hope you are able to make mad affiliate earnings with this :)
achillesheels··on Ask HN: Looking for good industrial design news/resources/discussions/books
‘The Design of Everyday Things’. It was recommended on an old HN thread about software design. Very eye opening in consideration of “natural mapping” and Human Intuition. Highly recommended.
achillesheels··on Gen Zers struggling to stay in work or school– and the parents who are at a loss
brutalist economic system.

heh.

achillesheels··on Show HN: Scenestamps – A website for sharing movie scenes with timestamps
I really like that idea! That sort of skirts IP issues while giving the user better intuitive experience of the remembrance of the cinematic moment :)

PS Hate to be boogie, but I can see this as being a great driver for sales of the episodes/series themselves, i.e. "to watch the whole scene, purchase here"

achillesheels··on Creatine found to improve cognitive performance during sleep deprivation
I love creatine for the amplified neural oscillations produced by the greater efficiencies in the ATP metabolism. I experience more "deep work", or the ability for me to focus for longer periods/stretches of time.
achillesheels··on Philosophy is an art
Eternal truths are eternal;

Ignorance of the eternal is constant in man.

Thus philosophy lives forever.

achillesheels··on Philosophy is an art
I could not read past the first 50 words of schoolman precepts.

Philosophy perfects human nature by arriving at harmonious agreement between men on what is the good life.

It is certainly:

Healthy Beautiful Fortunate

It focuses on the agreement of achieving these ends for all through the faculty of reasoning ergo obedience to the truth ergo lawfulness in the cosmos.

achillesheels··on Jonathan Haidt blames teenage depression, anxiety on smartphones, social media
It’s a correlation to be sure. But also inter-generational family habits, like inculcation values of meriting good habits, e.g. discipline. Some families like that basic history.
