abysmallyideal··on New CIA director thinks Snowden should be killed
If you look up Pompeo on wikipedia, he has zero credibility in the Intelligence community having no experience whatsoever.

His political credentials are: He's a tea party member, and he's a republican. That's it.

He's just saying this to compensate his lack of any experience in the leadership role he's about to fill.

Edit: I'm just interested in seeing now how many people Trump begins to annoy when he appoints Thiel from the pond/swamp.

haha, that safety stuff is just training wheels. You can't delegate security. Even if you use some baby-proof "programming language", as a security engineer you still have to verify that the safety works in the condition(s) you're programming for.
abysmallyideal··on Internet Attack Spreads, Disrupting Major Websites
What if an entity willingly allowed the attacks or espionage to continue? Like the NSA allowing foreign nations to spy on US citizens and corporations, or the CIA operating and allowing drug operations to run amok within US borders, or the OPM breach?

You can't just have one without being able to hold all of those responsible accountable.

abysmallyideal··on Internet Attack Spreads, Disrupting Major Websites
The idiot is embarrassed because the DNC was exposed as fraudulent and corrupt to the core. One might figure only the Russians would be interested in exposing the underlying machinations of American politics, but it really is just a classic case of misdirection.

He's also threatening not just the Russians, but the American citizens as well... that if they try to challenge the system as it is, then the politicians would rather start a major war than to address any concerns of fraud/corruption.

abysmallyideal··on When the Genius Men of Silicon Valley Suddenly Don't Seem So Smart
Isn't SiliconnValley just the wall Street of techbro snowflakes and startup culture? Who cares what they say.

These billionaires don't matter. They don't fund the core advancements that matter, they're just data traders. Even if they pooled all their money it would be dwarfed by real technologists. Not political hucksters and new wall Street aka SV.

Surely, SV is just a cliquey jock and yacht club. Bunch of grandfathered aristocratic rich kids. What a joke.

abysmallyideal··on Introducing Google Cloud Shell’s new code editor
I can see how working for Google, there is no issue using their cloud infrastructure... For other companies I don't see the benefit esp since Google is an enormous data broker to the US government and security infrastructure. Microsoft used a similar, yet relatively benign tactic, of copying works created in their dev environment and then pushing out the competition simply through free or cheaper prices.

It just can't be ignored that promising or lucrative businesses, workflows, models using SV infrastructure provided by Google et al, will just be passed off to those passing through the revolving door as "rewards", etc.

abysmallyideal··on Americans Work 25% More Than Europeans, Study Finds
There aren't many non-european Americans willing to live in Scandinavia or europe over the US barring extraordinary circumstances. A significant amount of foreign, non 'white', skill prefers the US over say Norway. Considering that, "socialism" in the context of Scandinavia, europe, etc isn't an attractive option by a long shot in a more global, and highly diverse 'market'. The benefits of a selective style of socialism like Norway may be attractive to say similar mindsets and cultural effects comfortable with a homogenous idealism of utopia, but having the benefits of a highly diverse and varying mindsets and cultures has its own positive effects even with the negatives.

Sadly in the US, the idealisms of socialism often also comes with certain european-centric identities, or commonly bastardized into race ideologies where their proponents emphasize a socialist "utopia" like Scandinavia. These people emphasize this socialism on the basis of certain similar attributes where they can afford such promises to a small percentage, through the removal or exclusion of those they decide are not like them.

Breaking down the US economic system, one would be quick to notice that there does indeed exist a kind of socialist utopia much inline with euro-centric ideologies. One that even dwarfs the so called socialist bastion of Scandinavia and europe.

abysmallyideal··on Americans Work 25% More Than Europeans, Study Finds
That is not true. Some tech people go in hoping to be millionaires, but the environment is extremely cut throat, esp with competition like India with billions of people keen on dominating tech, as well as Chinese skill. Many of the tech people end up competing to stay afloat, and to eat the weakest dog in the pack just to stay in that arena.

Silicon Valley and Seattle/Redmond are probably the most cut throat areas you could work in. It gets really nasty there.

abysmallyideal··on Americans Work 25% More Than Europeans, Study Finds
All the "25% extra work" is doing is continue to widen the wealth gap. Their input into the economy is exploited by politicians, government, big business and banks. That is why Bloomberg, a well known shill piece for the 1%, is spinning it like a positive.
abysmallyideal··on America’s Dazzling Tech Boom Has a Downside: Not Enough Jobs
The "American dazzle tech boom industry" is a scam and a hoax. It is a government protected endeavor by government protected and connected organizations.
abysmallyideal··on America’s Dazzling Tech Boom Has a Downside: Not Enough Jobs
It is a scam. They're not looking to fill in those positions. They just open those positions up, under no obligation to hire, then report to their gov censor that they have created x amount of jobs without the intent of filling those positions.

When they have to fill in the positions, they complain about the lack of "talent and skill" in filling the roles and then push for h1bs to fill with cheaper Indian and Chinese workers.

Every once in a while they'll fill it with a techbro "hip to the game". The entire thing is a complete hoax.

abysmallyideal··on Making Human Settlement of Space a Reality
Our best bet would be what SpaceX envisions. Instead of having a massive rocket, use the same platform to deliver the cargoes multiple times into space (LEO), then have it assemble in space to journey to Mars, and maybe the Moon.

abysmallyideal··on Say Cheese: a snapshot of the massive DDoS attacks coming from IoT cameras
NIST has too much influence from the NSA. There needs to be a better standards equivalent where the US doesn't wield so much influence in subverting security protocols. It may be a pipedream considering every Western country wants to be part of the five eyes program.

edit: The most democratic and open platform in the world was made by developers from all across the world vs US made operating systems like Windows and Apple which were basically trojan horses. We need an equivalent for security protocols, and protocols in general.

We can't let US stazi entrenched Silicon Valley and their faux "Startup Scene" destroy the internet as rapidly as they are today.

abysmallyideal··on Disappearing messages for Signal
Doesn't downsampling have the affect of preventing the use of more popular stego apps? Makes me wonder if there's something hidden in 25519. According to recent publications, it's easy to create backdoored primes fashioned to simplify search methods. Although those were for SNFS and DH, there are likely applications for searching the ECDH space.
abysmallyideal··on Samsung to Permanently Discontinue Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone
They're estimated to have to have to pay over (or have losses of) $5 billion! The class action lawsuits haven't even started yet, and you bet your ass InQTel, Facebook, Apple shell corps are going to be funding those lawsuits to the billions if it goes there.

It's a pretty nasty trick the Americans pulled on Samsung, and we'll see how this plays out in the end. It was bound to happen as Samsung completely began to dwarf Apple, and snubbed the CIA operated Facebook. Taking on American tech corps is akin to taking on the NSA and CIA.

For now their best bet is to narrow down the culprits, reassess who their friends are if they have any (I think they're heavily dependent on Americans). It's obvious there's a move to break Samsung apart and to feed their remains to the American tech corps, so Samsung will likely have to play second fiddle to US intel lackeys like Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc...

abysmallyideal··on Why Samsung Abandoned Its Galaxy Note 7 Flagship Phone
Looks like Samsung has to foot the 5+billion dollar bill to come up with a solution.

Are these known to just affect the snapdragon US version from whatever samples Samsung has been able to obtain? I'm reading that some cases are refusing to allow Samsung to investigate the phone.

My opinion is that putting the radio in the SoC is a big mistake. Qualcomm kraits are one of the main points Samsung has no control over, and it is not hard to imagine a scenario that could cause issues if they can't test it.

Haha it is hardly nonsense. Corporate sabotage is part of what any company has to deal with. Considering that Apple and Google are poised to gain, with Apple shares rising it is obvious Apple had the most to gain.

There is also geopolitical motors involved, as well as the highly aggressive US spying cartels that want to insure they maintain a monopoly of insecure products around the world.

Too many vectors pointing at sabotage to dismiss it as nonsense. Sure, commercially they'll dismiss it as so, but I highly doubt it is as easily dismissive when taking into account _all_ factors.

abysmallyideal··on Another replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire
Hahaha nope, the US is desperate to continue its dominance over the market to sustain their surveillance apparatus and will deal with anyone, company and org that attempts to prevent their surveillance capabilities in a highly aggressive manner.

They just sabotaged the phone manufacturing process to create room for Googles Pixel and Apple. Samsung is just incapable of handling the level of sabotage that was dealt against them.

This is just part for the course for the US, and I'm a bit surprised Samsung is this negligent in preparing for these types of actions that were highly suspected for a while.

Edit: for background for those other than the fanboys and tech bros, corporate sabotage is such a norm in American business the FBI has an entire division dedicated to investigating it, as do military intelligence for companies involved in military contracts. SpaceX and ULA is one such example where military intelligence is involved in investigating corporate sabotage.

Many major companies have teams and processes for this purpose.

As for Samsung, they seem to have picked up extremely bad business habits, and themselves are also known to participate in sabotaging their competitors as stated by other Koreans unfortunate enough to challenge them.

abysmallyideal··on Another replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire
Meh, it is too close to the rise of Goole as smartphone fab, the competition between Qualcomm and Samsung processors and the rise of Chinese fabs trying to enter the western markets.

Their adversaries are very dangerous and I wouldn't be surprised if they have to disassemble a huge amount of their production to find the error.

I still remember that Facebook Executive mysteriously jumping planes after the Koreans refused to make a Facebook only phone, and the plane having some weird malfunction and the ensuing racist banter by American media. Even the Japanese turned around their flights to SF to check their planes for sabotage, and found some strange errors in their flight systems. Of course they were american boeing airplanes, and they might do well to begin diversifying their fleet if you ask me.

abysmallyideal··on Another replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire
Even with the coincidence of Pixel release and Samsung having problems with their batteries which hints with high probability the occurrence of corporate sabotage, the way Samsung has been trying to deal with this is appalling.
abysmallyideal··on Are closed social networks inevitable? (2010)
One of the key take aways I got from this article is that it is nearly impossible to depair the efficiency of exploitative capitalism of 'physical industry' and the abstraction that is an economic, or generically a bloodless, revolution.

It is economically more efficient to centralize the resources but far less robust. SV could disappear tomorrow and a significant amount of the Internet's "revolutionary" capabilities would disappear. This doesn't appeal to SV's narcissistic sell of a special snowflake, but the power they wield in their capacity to damage any progress associated with the growth of the internet.

On the other hand, a distributed internet is far more diverse and robust yet the economic costs can be exponentially far more damaging and costly.

abysmallyideal··on Are closed social networks inevitable? (2010)
She is right about one thing, "Silicon Valley", is the worst thing that has happened to the decentralization and distribution or the powers of the internet. Their entire motive is centralization and monopolization.
abysmallyideal··on Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny
It is about the American outlook where the perception is warped to the extent that all that is seen and wanted is only meant for them.

Or in another sense; because it exists, then it exists only for them. It ties into their earlier religion where they warped the belief that an entity called God created the world for mankind and humans, where they only reason and believe that only they themselves to be human and man.

abysmallyideal··on Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny
As soon as you hit resource scarcity, there is no cushion to give people "rights" and the state begins to change the economic rules to maintain stability.

The US and the West experienced a huge gain in resource that is quickly being squandered in a contest of "either we use it or we lose it". Since there was more to go around there is less need to enact stricter forms of government.
