abrowne··on Debian 11 “bullseye” freeze started
Thanks, got it now, I was confused by the differing notations. (I thought the parenthetical was a description, not a name.) Listening to my MIPS internet radio now FWIW (Pure brand).

Are you sure for mips? It says (emphasis added)

> We have decided that the architectures that will be part of the bullseye release are: amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el and s390x (i.e. the same we had for buster minus mips).

abrowne··on Why lasers are so brilliantly useful
My friend got one and would throw it against the wall—he had headphones with long a cable—to show how it didn't skip (unlike our portable CD players). Until the battery door broke. (He taped it on, but stopped throwing the player.

I eventually got the fat iPod, the first 20 GB. I loaded my whole library and could listen to whatever album I wanted on my walk home from school in the winter.

abrowne··on Apple has stopped providing standalone installers for macOS updates
Honest question: how's that different from running Software Update from the 10.15.3 install to get to 10.15.7? (Other than working offline once you have the update downloaded, that is.)

Which is the same thing Apple says for the "basic" AirPods FWIW: https://www.apple.com/airpods-2nd-generation/specs/#footnote...

abrowne··on Little Things That Made Amiga Great
I was wrong about Qt: middle (three-finger) click also does go right to where you click. Right click brings up the (Windows-like) menu.
abrowne··on Little Things That Made Amiga Great
Chromium does this on Linux (at least I assume a three finger trackpad tap is middle click). IIRC, Qt apps show a menu with a "scroll to here" option.

abrowne··on Google Chrome is preparing a widget with shopping ads on the new tab page?
There seem to be a lot of extensions that do it, with nice pictures or wherever, so it seems unlikely, but you never know.
abrowne··on Google Chrome is preparing a widget with shopping ads on the new tab page?
Not a solution for most people, but if you didn't know, it's very easy to replace the new tab page with a custom one using a minimal, local extension. In your manifest.json include

    "chrome_url_overrides": { "newtab": "ntp.html" }
and if you want it to work in incognito tabs

    "incognito": "split"
(you will also need to go to your extensions's detail page and flip on "Allow in incognito").

Then create your ntp.html page (can be named whatever, just change the json to match), with CSS file(s) and image(s) as needed. I made a simple flexbox "speed dial" page with sites I specify rather than changing based on some kind of "frecency".

In chrome://extensions/, flip the "Developer mode" switch and then click "Load unpacked" and choose your extension's folder.
