aandrieiev··on Translations of the Dao De Jing
The problem with translating any Chinese classics lays in their multi-layered meaning. Old Chinese literature is complicated because every author expected that the reader was accustomed to volumes of other classics and could comprehend all the references to them hidden in the text. No matter how many good translations we have, they will not help us resolve this issue. Furthermore, understanding Dao De Jing is problematic even for native speakers of Chinese, because they do not have proper educational background to comprehend what ideas the author wanted to convey even being able (as they think) to read the original text!

why bother with a cross-platform framework, then?

By other computers you mean SSHing to them or working at them physically? If the latter, this sounds like a very odd excuse. If you use a custom KB layout on your main machine(s), it is a way bigger showstopper for being effective at the rest of them. As you said, you do not care about those other machines much, so why stint yourself and not use handy customizations at least on the main computer?
aandrieiev··on Laptops Are Great, But Not During a Lecture or a Meeting
I'm curious whether the research you mentioned had the people who actually grew up writing or typing. If the former, no wonder: I spent all my school years extensively taking notes, and nowadays taking a note on paper is a reflex I cannot get rid of, even despite typing way faster than writing. How feel those growing up with typing as the major way of taking notes I don't know, but am curious to learn more about any research on them.

Just curious, did you file a bug report for this?
aandrieiev··on Google is apparently ready to buy HTC
Right, but did it lead to taking Tizen to the level it could replace Android? What I like about Samsung is that they do realize and accept that the software is not their forte. Hence Android.
aandrieiev··on Introducing .NET Standard
Is mono going to be fully merged into .net _something_ (core? standard?) at some point in the future or it will remain separate?
aandrieiev··on Apple Surveying MacBook Pro Users About Headphone Jack and Other Ports
Not really. Now you need to charge the Macbook with MagSafe and connect the dock to it. It's still two cables. USB-C allows you to charge your mac through the same cord it transfers data to/from.

Not like it matters too much, but I see some point in it — I come to my desk, plug in only one cable from the dock and have it all set. Also I can easily see how demoing it from the stage falls under what Tim Cook calls "innovation" nowadays. Which seems to become more and more important to him.

aandrieiev··on Microsoft is now the leading company for open source contributions on GitHub
At this stage the value of GitHub doesn't have much to do with git per se. It's about the projects' communities hosted there. That said, I don't see much of uniqueness in what GitHub provides, it just happened to be good enough and popped up at proper time.

On a related note, most of speakers of East-European languages have hard time with word pairs like "bitch"/"beech" and "shit"/"sheet". Number of "spreadshits" heard at some meetings can't leave anybody cold =)

Actually, flour made from crickets has been already available for some time: http://www.amazon.com/Cricket-Flour-made-100-22/dp/B00OMCTOD...
aandrieiev··on A Revolutionary Discovery in China
Chinese characters allow to "compress" information, at least compared to alphabetic writing systems. That made them relatively transportable.

A good example of how a library might look like at that time can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3cnH5-nMbM Those rolls of slips around characters are books.

aandrieiev··on Classism in America
I'm wondering if using "IIII" instead of "IV" for the 4th chapter was intentional or it has to do with the social class of the author =)
