Despite its importance I don't think the Internet Archive is a common household name on the level of Wikipedia and I don't think any sort of boycott would have the legs (I would love to be wrong about this).
At the end of the day I think this will be a battle over whether or not the Internet Archive can continue to exist... and it's incredibly important for them to live to fight another day.
For example, it might be your stance that all Trump supporters are racist. Would I hire someone who was openly racist? Absolutely not.
Is the reality that all Trump supporters are racists? No, probably not.
A counter-example, you believe that abortion is murder. Would you hire someone who supports murder? absolutely not.
Is abortion murder? Not definitively. It depends on your personal outlook.
Hiring/firing is just not an objective process anywhere, and you're going to be subject to the personal biases of the boss... and we're in particularly biased times. On the bright side, I suspect historical numbers would be worse... and at least it's not a civil war.
Grid is absurdly more powerful for full-page layout than flexbox (which is amazing for individual columns or rows). Especially once we start getting subgrid. The common comparison is 1 dimensional (flex) vs 2 dimensional (grid) layout.
It doesn't seem like they're willing to do that, and while I agree with their viewpoint and the troubling future with licensing... it may be the hill they die on and I'm not sure it's worth the trade off in this specific case. IMO the Internet Archive is incredibly valuable to humanity.
I admire them for taking the stance, but worry about their future. Hopefully they're playing tough publicly and aren't as willing to die by the sword in private.
>We can assure you that your DNA information was not compromised, as GEDmatch does not store raw DNA files on the site. When you upload your data, the information is encoded, and the raw file deleted. This is one of the ways we protect our users’ most sensitive information.
This is kind of BS right? It's encoded... not encrypted.
The elimination of money orders from the USPS alone would push more people to already-abusive payday lenders.
Everything is a statement, the lack of intention can be doubly so. There are entire utilitarian schools of thought in fashion just like there is in everything else.
Also fashion doesn't exist solely to please others! I wouldn't dismiss an entire massive industry as inane. Vanity is a big part of it like a lot of other things, but if you're making a conscious choice in what you wear... fashion is playing some small role.
>In total, across the OECD countries, 26% of adults were unable to use a computer.

I've worked for companies with large call centers, and anecdotally I don't have a single doubt about it. To close this gap computers need to be easier to use... these people aren't even at a skill level where they can reach the web.
There are exaggerations on both sides for sure, but despite those you can clearly point to a "worse side" here.
It's also true that the most predictable factor when it comes to student performance in school is household income.
