a_band··on Cellular outage in U.S. hits AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon users
AT&T seems down in Eastern TN too. All phones in SOS mode.
a_band··on [dead]
Seems pretty widespread. Anyone know what caused it?
a_band··on Show HN: Pika – Simple blogging software
I like this simple implementation.
a_band··on Google Drive just accidentally deleted years of data
Some users are saying years but could it really be that long?

a_band··on Google Drive just accidentally deleted years of data
Yeah, the timing is suspicious. Wonder if someone just fat-fingered a command.
a_band··on Google Drive just accidentally deleted years of data
If you read in the links, users are reporting more than six months. It sounds like entire accounts have been wiped.

I think the "six months" is coming from the original report but looks like it could be longer.

a_band··on Google Drive just accidentally deleted years of data
Does anyone have any technical insights as to what happened here? Was it related to Google's new account deletion policy or something totally separate?
a_band··on They ruined file sharing, didn't they
Volafile is interesting. First I’ve heard of it
a_band··on They ruined file sharing, didn't they
Mediafire, while it works, is a terrible user experience for someone receiving the file, IMHO.

Good suggestion. Thanks!

Thanks! In regards to API quotas, the rate limiting happens on a per-user basis so we manage to stay away from the limits for most users. That being said, I did build the system with a retry mechanism with delays so in case something does hit a limit, it shouldn't be lost.
a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
Thanks so much, midrus! I did build it myself. Super kind to hear.
a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
That's awesome. What a cool idea. :-)

That's 100 submissions a month. Thanks for giving it a shot!

Yeah, I actually do something similar with some of my projects. I'm able to get good results directly querying sheets: https://www.benlcollins.com/spreadsheets/google-sheets-query...

Pivot tables have a bit of a learning curve but you can also use them to dynamically pull data out of sheets: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/1272900?hl=en&co=GENI...

a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
Yikes. Hadn't considered that. Hopefully not.
a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
Thanks!

1. I'm not sure I 100% understand what you're asking here but it seems that what you're looking for is very possible by triggering workflows off of sheets. https://solutions.appsheet.com/workspace or https://zapier.com are a couple of great ways to do this.

2. If you can embed HTML in an Android then you should be able to embed one of the forms. I haven't done it before. Let me know if you try it and how it goes.

Ah dang. Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look.

EDIT: I was missing the `playsinline` attribute. Fixed now.

a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
Thank you! Hope they find it useful. :-)
a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
Thanks! Glad you found that post helpful. Yeah, the Google APIs are very powerful but not user-friendly at all for developers looking for a quick way to save data into a sheet.
a_band··on Show HN: I made a form builder that saves data in Google Sheets
You got it 100%. Google Forms is great until you have to integrate it with a website. This is meant to work just like Google Forms but with the ability to be embedded right into any layout.
a_band··on The Life and Death of Aqua in Apple Software
Yeah, aqua was a real thing of beauty where there was such harmony with the OS and the translucent, pinstriped hardware. It seems like the Titanium PowerBook pretty quickly set the course away from Aqua.
a_band··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
We're just relying on guesswork here but to think that the internet only created a 25% increase in porn exposure for teens seems really off, especially considering how hard porn was for minors to obtain pre-internet.

Also, it's worth considering that the "porn" they would have had easiest access to was Playboy magazine content--not the catalog of Pornhub.

a_band··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
Key to remember that in the Golden Age of Porn, probably less than 5% of teens had seen a pornographic film. Today it's probably over 99%?
a_band··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
I agree. But porn directly targets sexual behavior and response. It's the sugar soda to obesity.

But to singly focus on it would also be a mistake.

a_band··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
The correlation of the appearance of this phenomenon with the rise of porn really shouldn't be ignored.
a_band··on What is life? Its vast diversity defies easy definition
"Your honor, Science shows us that life is vastly more complicated than antiquated ideas of 'alive' and 'dead'. I submit that my client cannot be guilty of murder as the very concept relies on binary categories that Science has discredited. Who are we to say if a murder has occurred?"

Don't tease me.
a_band··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
Twitter and Facebook took how many years and millions of dollars to scale up a moderation strategy? I guarantee they weren't worrying about moderation at Parler's scale.
