_random_··on Parallel STL
Yet another parallel for-loop.

I wonder what is your opinion about JS MVC frameworks :).

_random_··on Programming Isn't Manual Labor, but It Still Sucks
Manual labour is for weak-AI robots.
_random_··on William Gibson: “What would my superpower be? Redistribution of wealth”
Anything could hide behind this phrase: from making oneself rich to communist-style "sharing" to welfare abolition.
_random_··on Why Lisp?
Death by 1000 nested round brackets.
_random_··on The real reason young people are the poorest generation in 25 years
Teachers are subsidised by state so it's not a "real" tax-generating sort of job.
_random_··on Divergence in U.S. Sex Ratios by County, 1820–2010
My guess: men are likely to emigrate to any place with decent jobs (e.g. some oil state), women are probably likely to emigrate to a sex-and-the-city states.
_random_··on I would have hired Doug, but...
Think about it. You start learning Javascript after years of working with C#.

The thought is: "What, again!? Haven't we buried this weakly-typed language back in the 90s, years before C# had been released?"

_random_··on I would have hired Doug, but...
I am a "youngster" and I wouldn't mind a 60-years old developer around. Someone who doesn't consider something like Node.js a "new" "technology" and moving code client-side SPA-style a "new" "trend". Even without realising that youth is a temporary state.

PS: mechanical tenkeyless keyboards ROCK!

_random_··on I no longer use my iPad
I'd buy a Continuum-enabled x86 Atom phablet (whenever Intel decides to catch up).
_random_··on A New Way to Work: Futurist Insights to 2025 and Beyond [pdf]
"Robot" - 0 matches found.

'nuff said?

_random_··on Cognitive Distortion
That's interesting. The opposite effect is quite common as well: there were numerous recent cases in the news where overweight people would consider themselves beautiful and normal. Some of them even coined the term "fat shaming" for the people who are trying to tell them the truth!
_random_··on Roslyn ships v1.0-rc2 with "Go-Live" license
Among other scenarios it is very useful as a way of moving some internal DSL validation to compile time. I would imagine people who will benefit the most are big third-party framework designers.

Of course internal DSLs are limited in their syntax so meta-programming would be welcome. I think it's not the top priority in C# 7 though.

_random_··on Oracle latest to be sued for wage-fixing
Engineers are not complaining as much as they should. And I am sure there are much more sales people and managers than engineers.
_random_··on JSFuck – esoteric JavaScript
Just like vanilla JS: http://wtfjs.com
_random_··on Dave Goldberg, CEO of SurveyMonkey, has died
I also wonder if there is a place on earth where doctors genuinely care about you outside of an emergency.
_random_··on Dave Goldberg, CEO of SurveyMonkey, has died
What is not silly? Someone invented a way of enjoying things after you die? Or is there a template for being happy that we all must adhere? Let me guess: "spend quality time with the people you love", "travel the world and experience more", "achieve something that will remembered" and other typical b..it.
_random_··on The Long-Term Problem with Dynamically Typed Languages
The industry shares the same sentiment it seems. The honeymoon with Ruby, Python and JS seems to be over.
_random_··on Chinese builder puts up 57-story skyscraper in 19 days
The phrase I would like to see: "...while surpassing industry's toughest quality and safety standards...".
_random_··on Ask HN: Why does Microsoft think we want to draw on webpages?
And who uses voice control? There should be as many different input options as possible.
_random_··on Minecraft Mod Developer Pack Extension
Single code-base for all devices and a performance boost - why not?
_random_··on Mercurial: Onward and upward

_random_··on Mercurial: Onward and upward
Wow, I am not the only one :). For closed-source projects BitBucket is a no-brainer.
_random_··on The Verge on Build 2015
True that, TheVerge => Apple fanbois.
_random_··on Visual Studio 2015 RC Now Available
I suppose C# 6.0 is worth mentioning :).
_random_··on Show HN: Live-programmable voxel landscape in WebVR
In 10 years you might be spending most of your day in something like that. Just look at Microsoft HoloLense.
_random_··on Can Your Static Type System Handle Linear Algebra? (2014)
F# units of measure to the rescue:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd233243.aspx

let convertCtoF ( temp : float<degC> ) = 9.0<degF> / 5.0<degC> * temp + 32.0<degF>

_random_··on Microsoft Launches Visual Studio Code, a Free Cross-Platform Code Editor
Also <grid> (as a sane alternative to <div class="table">) where you can actually align stuff exactly the way you want.
_random_··on What would be your ideal programming language?
F# with C# syntax. Something like Scala for CLR but with proper tools and compiler-as-a-service.
_random_··on Bringing the Liberal Arts to Engineering Education
I have a choice of not buying fries with my hamburger, but I have to buy a set "menu" of education, because there is a monopoly.

Anyway, this guy puts it better "The Trillion Dollar Liberal Arts Scam":

Comments are great as well.

_random_··on Apple Won’t Always Rule. Just Look at IBM
Microsoft needs to make a deal with Valve and offer money to developers implementing touch-screen support. Indies is a group Apple/Google are failing to address properly.
