It probably depends on your requirements. YMMV
If you're going through this to save a few hundreds, get a mba refurbished.
I'm sure some folks in here are too young to remember those days...
How can this be harder than creating table with Word? Word always gets in the way. Word appears to be easier but down the road, it always end up as a painful process.
For me just the benefit of being mergable and delegating styling at the end of the tool chain is just plain great.

Edit: rendering issues!
IMHO, pandoc markdown support is the mother of all implement featuring lots of goodies (table and footnote to name 2)
This kind of instance is a nice addition for us as far as our auto scaling is concerned.
One of my favorite is pbpaste/pbcopy.
What's yours?
Happy MBA convert after 15 years of Linux/pc.
* I once sent a email to my customers about an upcoming maintenance window informing them that our platform would not be available for a certain time period. I got one customer quickly replying "next time, please let us know 1 week ahead" Point noted. Now I send my maintenance notice 1 week ahead. Happy customer.
* We have this automatic billing system which sends an invoice through email following payment. I had a customer once replying saying "Hey. That amount should be x+y instead of just x". Point noted. Shit happens and I wanna know.
Yes those customers could have reached us through our website or something but my point is, why not offer them the chance to hit reply? It's so close!
Also, If you don't have a good ticket system to skim through those incoming replies quickly, maybe you should get one. It pays back rapidly.
Your milage may vary.
[edit: formatting]
Have this address forwarded to your ticket system.
That's a no brainer.

Well kind of. Last summer I did a road trip to newfoundland (canada) with a laptop, a gps and a webcam onboard [1]. The idea was to have people (friends and family) to follow our trip through a website to which I pushed webcam frames and gps coordinate in real time using websocket (socket.io) over my smarthphone. It was fun!
