_blk··on The privacy problems hidden in your period tracker
Awesome insight. Thanks for clarifying! @bbc please update because there's definitely an implicit complicity in your article.
_blk··on The privacy problems hidden in your period tracker
It indeed looks like the rest are "you're the product" (tm) type apps. Honestly, I don't expect much from Play Store (or App Store for that matter) these days but as a developer it's terrible what hoops you have to go through to publish your app.. Endless forms to fill out manually and then the overall store quality is just disappointing. Ads, ads, more ads and privacy and security debacles. Now it also looks like locking down on outside app stores like F-Droid.. Developers and hackers will find solutions but for the general population I'm not very hopeful. As to the period apps:

> This is also not Planned Parenthood's first run in with privacy criticisms. I wrote about similar problems four years ago, for example. The organisation didn't respond to a request for comment.

.. And it doesn't look like they care to change anything about it. Who can end this on a positive note? I hate to be this negative but I don't see it.

_blk··on Why American ambulance rides are so expensive
"We mark it down based on [income]".. Obviously it's profit first (I don't mind if you don't pretend that profit is a cost). It unfortunately seems cheaper to be uninsured for many cases if you're willing to pick up a phone and discuss prices and take the risk that it may not always work out (but then again dealing with insurances has its own set of annoyances and steadily rising costs).. Not a recommendation but clearly my observation.
_blk··on GitLost: We Tricked GitHub's AI Agent into Leaking Private Repos
Probably depends on the context (as always) but I'd say prompt injection is closer to remote code execution - or even a superset thereof if it can also change and redeploy code.
_blk··on Run Windows 2000 on a DEC Alpha with a new es40 fork
OK, I imagine that involved quite some challenges. Well done. But why? I fail to see a purpose. Is it just a DOOM runs on my smart toaster kind of thing or something that has production value?
_blk··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
But that Bill Gates [Foundation] is a larger sponsor to WHO than all nations short of the US (at least prior to the currently elected govt) wouldn't dare making the news this far left into the interwebs... Just sayin' - figured I'd invest a few karma points into self reflection ;) love y'all

_blk··on Show HN: A website that tracks every stock trade Congress makes
What do you mean? Prohibit trading while in office? I'd argue that it's a pretty big sacrifice to have to make your trades public while in office (but IMHO the reporting deadline should be sooner i.e. automated instant-reporting.)
_blk··on Ten Basic Clouds
genuinely funny - thanks
_blk··on Ten Basic Clouds
yup. even sonnet 4.6 on low got it right

Sounds intriguing but is GitHub login broken? It leads me to a 404 at

_blk··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
When you come as a non-immigrant, you agree to not stay permanently. If you want to stay (because life happens and the US is a great country after all) you go through the proper channels. That may mean exiting for the duration of the process - that's entirely legitimate given the amount of abuse. No reason to invoke "hate" of any kind to justify the need for the policy. I know it's not the popular view here on HN and anti-HN-mainstream views get downvoted really fast. Think about that if you value democracy.
_blk··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
I just went around the circumference of the US by RV. Kinda hard to travel more.

What I do notice is a clearly liberal HN bubble that does not represent the country I see and the people I talk to and I'm not selective. You're of course entitled to your views, just don't take others' views as unfounded just because you don't agree. (Collective you). I love the US and the values it stands for but dialogue and the "I'm right, you're wrong" has to improve on both sides.

_blk··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
As a rather conservative foreigner in the US I find this to be a very presumptive statement. We've made good friends, conservatives and liberals alike - we're people, that's what matters not the policitcal orientation. No conservative I know "hates immigrants." Consider what the policy intends to do rather than blanket-blaming it on hate.
_blk··on Show HN: I Made a Claude Skill for Spec-Driven Development (SDD)
Cool, thanks for the reply. GSD is great for new projects but it burns through tokes at quite the rate. Esp. in quality mode. Something more lightweight would sometimes also be welcome. Though there is /gsd-fast and /gsd-quick that partially fill that gap.. I'll definitely check yours out, thanks for publishing

This does not seem to target NIWs but rather those who use change of status as a way of extending their stay.

Change of status was never meant for those without status in the first place or for tourists.

I would love be to hear an immigration lawyer's perspective on this.

Here's the memo directly:

_blk··on Show HN: I Made a Claude Skill for Spec-Driven Development (SDD)
Wondering if this is attempting what github.com/gsd-build/get-shit-done has done: plan your milestones, discuss them, execute them, review them. It can also review the plans by another agent before execution... Everything documented and checked in.
_blk··on Most Americans don't trust AI – or the people in charge of it (2025)
probably just a ChatGPT

j/k, but I'm pretty sure you could substitute "AI" with a few other keywords here that a lot of people use/depend on: Govt, Healthcare, Social Security, Airport security, heck maybe even science.

The real question is how do you scale something without eroding trust. Transparency has to be part of it but I doubt that it's the only piece of the puzzle and no matter how good your intentions are, there are always people that will refuse their trust (I'm not judging, it's just a fact). As a distributed systems person, I think systems in general work best when they can deal with mistrust and people choose to rather than being forced to use your system to solve their problems. AI is not there yet.

_blk··on Show HN: WhatCable, a tiny menu bar app for inspecting USB-C cables
Seems so.

--> GnomeShell/js --(claude)

https://github.com/abrauchli/usbee - it uses the rust port so I feel it's a legit addition to the centipede ;)

_blk··on Show HN: WhatCable, a tiny menu bar app for inspecting USB-C cables
https://github.com/abrauchli/usbee - still missing some features but it's a start. Happy to take PRs.
_blk··on Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid
cool, well done. Now we just need it for the other gazillion "smart-cars" out there
_blk··on RTX 5090 and M4 MacBook Air: Can It Game?
I assume your reasons are different to mine so for your reasons it might very well be true. But for my reasons definitely not as long as Apple Silicon can't run Linux somewhat decently natively - and even then, it's still an Apple..
_blk··on RTX 5090 and M4 MacBook Air: Can It Game?
Yes, I really like that about Grok. It had a few good qualities but it was too verbose so now it's mostly Claude.
_blk··on Guitar tuner that uses phone accelerometer
it's not (just) the CIA, it's (just) physics
_blk··on Show HN: Git for AI Agents
Cool idea. Time will tell how it matures. It doesn't look trivial. Definitely should beat my current "scan the history" approach. Couple questions arose while reading the README:

- Would it integrate with rtk? Rtk is a token saver that shortens native output of got (and other) commands. - Does it track feature branches? - Is there garbage collection when history is rewriting (rebase before PR or removal of credential files.. ) or "simplification" of data as it gets older (Claude session logs lost...)?

Wishing you all the best with the project.

_blk··on RaTeX: KaTeX-compatible LaTeX rendering engine in pure Rust
Agree. Love latex and LLMs made it a lot more accessible but DX wise it's still a huge hassle, esp when it feels that it's easier to just generate HTML and PDF it from there.. I mean the best workflow is probably to write markdown, take a site you like, pick a color scheme and have Claude do the transformation along with a script to make it repeatable
_blk··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
Graphene user here: Firefox is my standard browser because I like it but mostly because it runs ublock Origin (which again causes me to like it). Vanadium I use for social media sites so I'm not logged in to those on the primary browser.
_blk··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
- Ublock origin - decentraleyes
_blk··on Does Employment Slow Cognitive Decline? Evidence from Labor Market Shocks
Respectfully but strongly disagree. I'll argue you don't have to be a victim and can choose where you live if you plan ahead a little.

There's plenty of places where a car is not necessary and even if people think a car's necessary I'm often the only one on a bicycle in many places.. It's doable if you're willing to put in the effort.

Sorry, I'm late to the party but there's no rust port yet, so ..

Thanks to the previous implementers/clauders.. I don't take any credits.
