Yes school taxes are local (county and/or city or regional school district) but schools are typically still subsidized by the state too.
The fact that schools are rated differently has nothing to do with who goes there, but how it's managed (which definitely has an effect on who goes there when given a choice).
That's why I come to the conclusion that free choice of school (private, charter, public or homeschool) is the only sane way to go. Don't force me to send my kids to a bad school when there's a viable option available that I think is better for my kids. My kids, my choice.
Homeschool, vote for free school choice, vote for getting the subsidized funds to where you actually send your kids. Solves most problems related to bad school policies.
They may have better and more open weight models but they sure don't have our western understanding of individual freedom. Go try out their first and second amendment protections, or try the fifth? I'm sure we can find more but mostly, when the state needs the tech there won't be an Anthropic-like appeal against overstepping.
Elasticity 0.8-2.2 means there are/were cases (<1) where an increase of H2b would mean lost 20% US jobs per additional visa or do I read that wrong? I didn't read anything about average or median elasticity or how those figures are ranged in the article.
It's not that it doesn't make sense, you just said it, they regret - well maybe not regret since they'd never made it without, but they now want to reverse a decision they feel needs to be overhauled.
I always thought they'll replace Linux with Fuchsia but that hasn't happened and it's not like they couldn't have done it.
It's no secret that history is always written from a victor's perspective so I'm fairly confident that the history books of tomorrow are already being hallucinated today because AI is here to stay.
Interesting project. How does it compare to GSD (opengsd.net)? Just from the command set it seems a lot lighter but also less expressive.
GSD is quite OK but very token hungry (~4x but it buys traceability and has quite a powerful autonomous mode)
I use gsd-meta-manager to manage multiple GSD projects in parallel without having to use a skill to query each project individually to see where they're at. Does openspec have something like that too?
You'd have to make it a positive statement to give it more weight since negatives leave too many options open. Instead of "don't..." try "as far as possible, always try to reinforce sentences and assumptions rather than contradicting them" - worth a try. Worst case you just get more reinforcement gibberish before it plugs back into the contradictions but that's just a guess.
Indeed but it will use the same language when talking to subagents so humans are no different to LLMs in Claude's world view (model).
One trait that I've seen more with the newer 5er model series is ", but it's actually worse..." or "I said to do this and it did that instead but it was right and I was wrong." - so I assume that a larger part of what they call thinking complexity is (not to much surprise) inherently related to questioning incoming assumptions.
YES - and 3 the the assumption that it needs to be a certain length before it can be considered a design document.
Esp. in the age of AI a little guidance to brainstorm on before a random project prompt goes a long way. (Not saying people that don't use design docs just code away thoughtlessly) - experience goes a long way too that's why there's success stories with and without design docs.
What makes you say that on climate change? I was still prophesied ice ages when in high school, then 12ft water increases and sunk Maldives in university and we still have roughly the same weather.
Sad but true. I paid for Prime to be ad free, easily worth 3$/month but sure enough now part of their catalog has become "only available with ads" or ads in their FireTV is before you hit the prime app (and then again when you do). So now their whole product is crap and I'm looking for a new streaming stick solution [anyone?] Sounds like it's time for a newcomer/disruptor like Angel Studios to release one.
Natural next step of the ad lobby is obviously to pay the lobby to make it illegal to bypass the money making machine if they haven't done so yet. I don't doubt that capitalism still works, it just takes time to "boil the frogs" dead [enough] to stop them from buying such crappy products.
Easy read but indeed. That's what I read the article for. I'm very happy with Photoprism but the box is not always on and I'd like to keep a cached set of photos on my phone while also having automatic (multi-user) sync whenever the box is available..
Why not use the POW to help cover the costs? Mine an actual coin (Annubis Coin?) and pay for anonymous infra access with it (or log in and get a certain quota for free)?
Yup. My last one took a rather quick end when a tiny bit of salty splash water got under the screen.. IP rating is only when it's fresh off production. Oh well, still a great phone (thanks to GrapheneOS)
Cool, I like the esp idea but won't you have to walk fairly slowly with a default ESP antenna? High gain might be better.. If you're wearing a cap you may not care as much being seem from above vs from the front.
Maybe attach a little windspeed meter to the top of the antenna on your hat too ;)
Not to be overly intensive but people "demand" rectification between rich and poor because they don't see that they have all the tools they need or they want a shortcut to smart/hard work and risk - the US, EU and many other parts of the world where societal discrimination is virtually none compared to previous generations give you what you need. I agree with you in the sense that, life never feels just, grass is always greener on the other side, etc.. Bit it's those that rise to a challenge and stop demanding, make a plan and start doing that change their fate. That's always been history. Check out all societies that demanded riches from "the rich" and ended up communist.. Didn't help most of them for sure. Massive redistribution of riches like high taxes never works long term and sets the wrong signals.
Hmm, not sure I understand. How are those shell based?
I agree that rust and haskell are not your typical OO (or not OO at all in a traditional sense) I guess my poorly worded claim was less focused on the OO nature of psh than on the typization (which both of these also do) - if you knew what type $rev and $path are, it's easier to distinguish intent, whether objects or not.
We may disagree on what spendings are necessary but I get your frustration. Spending should be questioned everywhere and I don't mind it starting in academia... It's not like it couldn't be parallelized to other areas
Argh, that's when I wished for object oriented shells. Powershell sure isn't perfect but objects encoding their own meaning really helps differentiate those cases (but it may not always help the user if types aren't clear to the reader)
With a nation this far endebted you'd think people might think it reasonable to question billions in grants.. Don't spend money you don't have is one of the best advices my parents ever gave me.
Been using GrapheneOS as daily driver for 4 years on three pixels. Problems only start when banking apps start actively sabotaging it by pretending the phone is rooted etc. Normal apps work normally and you get way more control over them. I'll never go back to stock or worse than stock (Samsung) as long as GrapheneOS is around even if they get rid of all security aspects (which of course they won't, I'm just saying security is not the only selling point, de-googling is a big one too.. I didn't de-google but I sure like having the option)
In practice it's of course not so simple. Every truck that passes you (or that you pass) will suck you right in if your tow vehicle isn't heavy enough or you don't have good enough grip.
Also, (RV/drum) trailer brakes suck so hard that you really want a vehicle with some additional stopping power other than regular brakes (heavy duty transmission, big engine, and diesel exhaust or compression brake).
E-brakes work well so there the e-assist trailer has a real advantage if it can do that but you'll have to get used to the feeling of being pulled back rather than leading the stop...
So evy 6.7l diesel I tow a big RV and e-assistance would be very welcome but costs likely drastically reduce the attractiveness of such a system for an RV. For a trailer that's constantly on the road I can definitely see a use case but it's not to be towed by a (comparatively) tiny car
The project doesn't seem to be about enforcing philosophies on how to form or what do to with land but providing an objective assessment. Your statement depends on whose perspective you take. I don't disagree from a health standpoint and I think even economically this GMO all you can out of a piece of dirt is not long term viable but others disagree.. Don't like it, don't buy it. Capitalism at its best.
It indeed looks like the rest are "you're the product" (tm) type apps. Honestly, I don't expect much from Play Store (or App Store for that matter) these days but as a developer it's terrible what hoops you have to go through to publish your app.. Endless forms to fill out manually and then the overall store quality is just disappointing. Ads, ads, more ads and privacy and security debacles. Now it also looks like locking down on outside app stores like F-Droid.. Developers and hackers will find solutions but for the general population I'm not very hopeful. As to the period apps:
> This is also not Planned Parenthood's first run in with privacy criticisms. I wrote about similar problems four years ago, for example. The organisation didn't respond to a request for comment.
.. And it doesn't look like they care to change anything about it.
Who can end this on a positive note? I hate to be this negative but I don't see it.
