Added now, thanks for the idea!

Glad we share the same pain! I'm not happy with the edge routing, it's ok in most cases, but it could be so much better. It's definitely where most of the upcoming development time will go. I'll bite the bullet and make something custom with what I can learn from react-fow-smart-edge and https://medium.com/swlh/routing-orthogonal-diagram-connector..., I really really want the edges not to overlap, but be a bit spaced out, so it's clear where each one goes.
_andrei_··on Show HN: TSDiagram – Diagrams as Code with TypeScript
Shouldn't be hard to do both things, will def. add that. Part of the plan is to switch to Tree-sitter and use other languages as well.
_andrei_··on Show HN: TSDiagram – Diagrams as Code with TypeScript
The label formatter doesn't preserve type, turns Record, Map, WeakMap into Map. Will fix, it's a small change.

Happy you like it, no need for any kind of attribution! Will add proper SVG export soon (without foreignObject), it will be much better after that.

Yes, sorry, I made a terrible mistake in not testing my state management monstrosity lib in Firefox... Should be working now!
_andrei_··on Show HN: TSDiagram – Diagrams as Code with TypeScript
Will add a background switcher!

Firefox update: fixed the issue, guess that's what you get if you roll your own store.

Same, I bought Monolisa before discovering Berkeley Mono, and then I was really angry for how much more I paid for a worse font.

_andrei_··on iPhones have been exposing MAC addresses despite Apple’s promises otherwise
A few years ago I was trying out mdk3's FakeAP feature. It had the ability to create thousands of fake APs and crash some devices. I was playing around with it on a MacBook that didn't have OS X for a few months, as I completely erased it and installed a Linux distro on it.

I started toying around with the FakeAP, pretty impressed by the huge list of networks with random names that were now appearing and dissapearing.

But then, I was struck with horror. Something must've happened inside the hardware, because the network names were not random anymore. It was still advertising new networks like crazy, but they had the SSIDs of the networks I had connected to in the past. From the work network, to all the coffee places I went to, friend networks, etc.

I have my beef with Apple, and the fact that they store the networks you connect to on a chip is just a part of it. There's no good reason (for the users) to do this, and it shows a complete disregard for privacy.

lost me at "quantum engine". it's a bunch of automations linked together by something like GPT with function calling. and you'd have to give them access to your accounts to run things in "tHE cLOuD".
_andrei_··on Modeling CRDTs in Alloy – the importance of idempotence
There is a talk that gives a good overview on Alloy and how useful using something like this is:

_andrei_··on Ask HN: How do you use AI to get things done faster?
I've been using GPT a lot for the past few years, but lately it's mostly for refactoring code (when it would take more time to do it through the LSP or manually).

I just select the code I want to perform some changes on, hit a keybind, ask for what I want, and it does it. I've been so impressed with gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct that I defaulted to that instead of gpt-4.

I use it in Neovim [0], in my terminal [1], in many specialized tools (long live function calling), and through the chat UI when I brainstorm. I'm using Claude as well for some things.

_andrei_··on Bram Moolenaar has died

_andrei_··on TypeChat
Just use function calling, declare your function schema using Zod, and convert it to JSONSchema automatically. You don't have to write your types more than once, you get proper validation with great error messages, and can extend it.
_andrei_··on Looming demise of the 10x developer – an era of enthusiast programmers is ending
I'm 30 now, and I got my diagnosis and started treatment at the beginning of this year. I live in a second-hand country, and our culture has been shaped into what it is now by communism and decades of corruption. This has a huge impact on everything, medical system included. Getting diagnosed with ADHD as an adult is pretty rare and only happens in a few places, where the doctors have been keeping themselves up to date and are actually professionals.

The first time I went to the psychiatrist to ask to be tested for this was three years ago. They told me I can't have it, because if I did I wouldn't be able to maintain a job, and being able to do good at work, especially as a dev, should be impossible. They said I'm depressive and put me on SSRIs that fucked me up for 6 months.

I was depressive, been like this ever since I was able to reason for myself and figured out that neither me nor others know what the f* this whole thing I'm waking up is, but my depression is my always-there companion, that keeps me humble and thoughtful of life. What the SSRIs did to me was very different, and much, much worse.

Adult testing is a thing, and I'm not mad at all for not getting a diagnosis earlier, I'm just grateful that it happened at all.

_andrei_··on Looming demise of the 10x developer – an era of enthusiast programmers is ending
This. His story is very similar to mine. I was super lucky that my (persistent ASD) special interest got fixed to computers from a young age, and ADHD has been both my superpower and my nemesis. But I wasn't aware of all of this, just got my diagnosis this year and started treatment. Everything changed, both in terms of work output quality and consistency, and all other things like social stuff. If you have any suspicion that you might have ADHD, *go test it*.
_andrei_··on Ask HN: Why did Nim not catch on like Rust did?
For me, the pythonic syntax was what made me not want to try it. Of course it's personal preference, but I can't stand anything that uses the indentation level to structure code. I love my curly braces and formatting tools. I imagine I'm not alone in this, so there goes a chunk of people.
_andrei_··on Track HN: Survival Rate of Show HN Stories
Phind, the 2nd entry, is live and well.
_andrei_··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
The most useful thing I built for myself is my workflow. Being both on the ASD and ADHD spectrums, I intuitively knew I need systems, and started working on them, long before I was diagnosed and got treatment.

One of my dearest parts of my system is the knowledge, task, and time management part. There's many things to improve, but I'm really happy to where I got.

TLDR; custom org/markdown/hyperlists-inspired document syntax powered by tree-sitter, go library for accessing the data, command line utility with interactive task manager (built in with a custom React-like component-based TUI framework), Neovim plugins and integrations.

This short video explains more than I can in a short time: https://gist.ro/slang.mp4

Extra - Thank you Org mode: I do my work in a terminal emulator, so (obviously) my editor is Neovim. Two years ago I allocated a few weeks to learn Emacs and to review Org mode, I was hooked on so many concepts, and I loved it. Didn't like Emacs through, it's just too slow for me, and Elisp felt very meh if not yuck. There's quite a few things that I liked so much while testing Org mode, and that I tried to port.

Here I am worrying about launching stuff without getting all the legal things sorted, not screwing up somehow, afraid of doing some financial illegality, or get into any trouble with the system, and others don't even put their company info on their product's website, and just "Questions about these Terms should be sent to the Company at [insert company email or contact information].", and "By uploading pictures, users grant the Platform a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to use them".
