__abc··on Ask HN: My company plans an ICO despite my opposition as CTO, any advice?
I and fellow colleagues had to do this once. As a founder I gave up 7 years of building that company due to some really unethical moves by the CEO.

At the end of the day, as a c-suite officer, I would have been liable by being complicit.

Once I stated my objection, I and my fellow c-suite colleagues went to the board with our objection, and CEO decided to continue executing the unethical behavior, I and a few of my c-suite colleagues all bailed.

That sucked hard.

PS. That signal from us leaving ended up preventing the securities fraud that was about to happen.

__abc··on Volvo acquires Luxe
What's Volvo's motivation here? The entire Luxe business model was wildly unprofitable and the UX as a consumer (egregious weight times at both drop off and pick up) was awful.
__abc··on Ask HN: How does Facebook know what I buy on Amazon or vice versa?
This is all fairly straight forward however, what blows my mind is Facebook makes recommendations of friends that I've NEVER had any digital interaction with.

For some reason it picked up the kid who stocks the craft beer at my local family run grocer. Literally only talked to the kid face-to-face. No phone number, no texting, no contact entry (not that I share those with Facebook anyways).

That made the hair on the back of my neck stick up when that happened.

__abc··on Uber, Mired in Corporate Scandals, Sees Uptick in Bookings
None of my friends/family outside tech have any idea of what is/has been going on inside Uber. A bit unfair to say "they don't care".
__abc··on Android Oreo
I don't have to buy a new Apple Phone for immediate updates to the OS .... my 6, 6+, SE, and 7 will all be able to update on day one.

Am I missing something about your comment?

__abc··on Why I am moving to Cleveland
Weird, that's the EXACT one I rode. Plus, the stairway up to the train stand that overlooked those contemporary condo's always smelled like piss 5+ years ago .... NOT CLEAN! Glad they have been cleaned up since.
__abc··on Why I am moving to Cleveland
I rode the light rail from east side to downtown every day for two years. It's dirty. West side to downtown may be another story.
__abc··on Why I am moving to Cleveland
I lived there for several years. Nothing negative, you just run out of things to do/see rather quickly. Only so many times you can hit the same restaurants in Tremont, Ohio City, E. 4th, Coventry, etc.

Nothing negative to add, it's absolutely not a bad town and we enjoyed our time there, but at the end became VERY bored.

__abc··on Amazon to Create 100,000 New Jobs in U.S. In Next 18 Months
I think it's easy for us (most likely anybody readying HN) to not understand how impactful this could be to someone's family/life.

WE get to be selective of "does this job help my career trajectory" but not everyone. This MAY be life changing for those 100,000 individuals.

__abc··on Amazon to Create 100,000 New Jobs in U.S. In Next 18 Months
For a lot of people, this will be an amazing opportunity and dramatically improve their life.

Not saying it couldn't be better, or the timing isn't suspect in regards to maximizing PR, but don't forget the humans this will positively impact.

__abc··on FBI Reopens Clinton E-Mail Probe Less Than Two Weeks Before Vote
It's tough and I don't think it's so black and white, and ultimately depends on "exactly" what they found.

Waiting until after seems wrong, and I say this as someone who as it stands is voting for HRC.

I honestly don't view this as influence, and more covering his ass, which has me nervous for HRC.

Actually, with the new iMessages app platform I wish all my Twitter conversations moved to iMessages. If Apple buys Twitter, that would be personally awesome.

The Wave technology also now powers a lot of the "collab" features in their Office suite. So the "product" died, but the capability found a home.
__abc··on Why It Doesn't Pay to Be a People Pleaser
That I would use it in a context/audience that wasn't my children. I personally find that an odd default assumption.

I under no circumstance assumed that OP says "house ape" to his sons face .... did you?

Maybe I'm the odd duck here.

__abc··on Why It Doesn't Pay to Be a People Pleaser

Such a weird assumption to make ...

My wife and I were just texting about this.

We try to make sure we carve out time for them to strategically be bored. Forced to explore, use their imaginations, build a fort, stomp on bugs, make shit up.
