ZitchDog··on The Little Typer (2018)
This is also possible in typescript which is a little more mainstream than Idris.
ZitchDog··on Dvořák In Iowa (2020)
Iowa City here. There are a few of us around!
ZitchDog··on Is the psychedelic therapy bubble about to burst?
On high dose psychedelic, “you” are not thinking in a different mindset. The current “you” is completely obliterated. This is the difference between psychedelics and other drugs.
ZitchDog··on Learn Postgres at the Playground – Postgres compiled to WASM running in browser
Would love to see this! I could see a wasm version of postgres being useful for all sorts of things, especially an easy dev instance of pg runing inside a node app.
ZitchDog··on Three Arrows Capital reportedly facing insolvency
Complaining about speculative bubbles on a VC website is beyond ironic.
ZitchDog··on Comma Body: The Future of People
Oh wow that is pretty misleading.
ZitchDog··on UST Stablecoin Loses Dollar Peg
It turns out, you need a lot of guns to make a central bank work.
ZitchDog··on Comma Body: The Future of People
It’s $999.
ZitchDog··on Flutter is the most popular cross-platform mobile SDK
Flutter has its own language (Dart) - my guess is many dart-specific questions are conflated with "flutter" while many JavaScript questions posted by react native devs are not tagged with "react-native".
ZitchDog··on AirPods don't “just work”
The worst part about the click is that it hangs up your call. I was on hold with the IRS for 3 hours and hung up on the representative when I adjusted my airpod. Rage inducing!
ZitchDog··on As an investor, why is crypto so hard to value?
It’s not entirely the same but transaction fees paid to the platform can be considered revenue.
ZitchDog··on Automatically generating types for Cloudflare Workers
I think protocol buffers is pretty similar to what you're looking for.
ZitchDog··on Neural Networks from Scratch
I could be wrong but I think it’s possible to understand backprop without being able to apply the chain rule from memory.
ZitchDog··on Tetris for Game Boy Gets Online Multiplayer
Here you go :) http://www.oocities.org/timessquare/7785/tetrinet/ladder.htm
ZitchDog··on Tetris for Game Boy Gets Online Multiplayer
I was in a tetrinet clan!
ZitchDog··on Ethereum: A Store of Value with Cash Flow [pdf]
It must also be unsustainable without new entrants.
ZitchDog··on Female Founder Secrets: Men Clamming Up
I believe when OP says "lower on the oppression hierarchy" they mean we only talk candidly with those who are as oppressed as us or less. i.e. someone higher on the oppression hierarchy would be more oppressed.
ZitchDog··on NFTs Are a Dangerous Trap
How do you guarantee the person trying to get into the event is the owner of the ticket?
ZitchDog··on Coinbase Is a $100B Crypto Cult
I feel similarly. I have done well but it’s mentally draining and I’m compulsively checking balances. If I sold everything and moved into an ETF I’d pay a lot of short term cap gains but I still probably will.
ZitchDog··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
It would still increase energy costs for everyone.
ZitchDog··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
Whataboutism at its finest. Current energy waste doesn’t justify future energy waste. Especially waste as avoidable as PoW mining.
ZitchDog··on Brendan Eich on the Lex Fridman Podcast [video]
The problem is that something worse will always get made more quickly and gain traction.
ZitchDog··on The nihilism of r/wallstreetbets
They definitely do move markets. What you need to know is that they are buying short-dated call options. These options expire in less than 2 weeks, and are usually far out of the money. They require "dealer hedging" as the market makers providing these options do not want to be exposed to the massive amount of risk implied with the movement of price. The market makers are then required to buy massive amounts of the stock in order to hedge against any movement in the underlying stock, which can cause a "gamma squeeze" when market makers are unable to purchase enough of the underlying asset.
ZitchDog··on Experienced well-being rises with income, even above $75,000 per year
Are you 4x as happy as your friends?
ZitchDog··on Smart contracts on Bitcoin
It is much cheaper to execute a smart contract.
ZitchDog··on To the moon: defining and detecting cryptocurrency pump-and-dumps (2018)
It is stupid to short Bitcoin. Bitcoin has no fundamental value, but its fundamental value is greater than zero. Since the value of a Bitcoin is impossible to predict it could just as easily go up as down.
ZitchDog··on Lonely people's brains are different due to excess of imaginary social contact
The Waking Up app by Sam Harris is a great way to get started - there is an introductory course I found very helpful.
ZitchDog··on AlphaFold: a solution to a 50-year-old grand challenge in biology
I think mRNA vaccines will be a big one too.
ZitchDog··on Computer vision can estimate calorie content of food at a glance
It will probably have large error but still be 1000 times better than the intuition of a hungry human.
ZitchDog··on Pfizer submits Covid vaccine to FDA for approval, to distribute in December
Me too. I signed up for a trial but wasn't accepted. Vaccines are amazing.
