ZeroGravitas··on ICE Begins Buying 'Mega' Warehouse Detention Centers Across US
Yes, that was the original plan the last time too.

https://www.theholocaustexplained.org/how-and-why/how/deport...

> As with most of the Nazis’ murderous actions, the deportation of German Jews was improvised and haphazard . The increased numbers of Jews arriving in the ghettos of eastern Europe led to severe overcrowding, unsustainable food shortages and poor sanitation. This, in combination with the slow progress in the German invasion of the Soviet Union, convinced the Nazis that a ‘solution’ to the ‘Jewish problem’ needed to be organised sooner than had been originally envisaged.

ZeroGravitas··on A Trump 'Blockade' Is Stalling Wind and Solar Projects Nationwide
We could also be going faster, but the Trump effect is mostly affecting further up the funnel, the full effects won't be felt for years.

If you have a half built wind farm then you have strong incentives to continue even if it involves unexpected court battles or bribes.

It's the projects that add those risks and costs at the planning stage that will go missing by not continuing.

ZeroGravitas··on Data centers in space makes no sense
I saw a news personality say that space is cold and that solves a big problem with datacenters as justification for why it made sense.
ZeroGravitas··on Banning lead in gas worked. The proof is in our hair
Your tone suggests you think they are generally not based on science and given cost benefit analysis. Probably a reflection of your media intake.

In 1981 Reagan made cost benefit analysis a requirement for EPA.

For example in 1984: the EPA " estimates that the benefits of reducing lead in gasoline would exceed the costs by more than 300 percent.... These benefits include improved health of children and others"

Trump has just scrapped the requirement to cost in human health.

I wonder if removing lead would meet the new standard.

ZeroGravitas··on Banning lead in gas worked. The proof is in our hair
Can you identify when exactly the German environmentalists did this thing you refer to? I'm assuming it's something coal related.

Total and per capita coal usage for Germany and a few other peer nations:

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/coal-consumption-by-count...

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/coal-consumption-per-capi...

I can see a bump in early 1980s but I see the same in other nations, possibly a response to oil embargoes, possibly just economic growth.

ZeroGravitas··on Spain to ban social media access for under-16s, PM Sanchez says
Could you expand on this as it makes no sense to me?
ZeroGravitas··on Banning lead in gas worked. The proof is in our hair
Manufacturing output hit an all time high in the US in 2024.

There's less manufacturing jobs and it's less of the total economy as other sectors grew but it would presumably need to be genuinely cleaner in order to offset that growth if industrial pollution just remained flat.

The switch from coal to gas would be a major cleanup for any process that uses electricity, for example.

ZeroGravitas··on Pretty soon, heat pumps will be able to store and distribute heat as needed
Older heat pumps had max temperature limits and did often have resistance heaters to get that last push above 60C. Modern household heat pumps will reach 75C while staying above 100% efficient and can skip the resistance heater.

This is partly due to a change in the refrigerant used.

ZeroGravitas··on Spain to ban social media access for under-16s, PM Sanchez says
Seems easier to justify if social media owners are hanging out with child sex traffickers and enabling features that let you undress anyone who posts photos to the site.
ZeroGravitas··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
Elon Musk just announced spending 300 million to make it harder to vote.

And it didn't even make the headline of the article I read it in.

And he's being spreading lies about elections for years. Again, not regularly mentioned even in critical articles about him, because it's so normalized.

ZeroGravitas··on Epstein claimed Bill Gates caught STD from ‘sex with Russian girls’
Sexually assaulting your employees and coworkers then silencing them with NDAs seems to be a popular option.

Musk was reported to attempt to buy off an employee with a horse after exposing himself to her on a private jet.

This leads to my theory that a big part of the recent lurch to the right by the people at the top of the tech world was a result of the #MeToo movement, ironically unleashed by social media.

There's a whole industry of people who were writing "let's not go too far with exposing rapists and abusers" op-eds in respected publications who've just been revealed to be best friends with sex trafficking Epstein.

ZeroGravitas··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
There's plenty of data.

Analysis: Wind power has saved UK consumers over £100 billion since 2010 – new study

https://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2025/oct/analysis-wind-power-has-...

The interesting part is that 130 Billion of the savings were in reduced gas prices as it reduced demand, particularly in winter, and freed up gas storage.

And this is depsite an effective ban on constructing onshore wind in England from June 2015, more than half the 2010 to 2023 time period studied.

ZeroGravitas··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
They effectively banned onshore wind for a decade in England just as it became the cheapest source of electricity available to them.

It's neat how right-wing sabotage feeds ino the next cycle of propaganda to support more sabotage.

ZeroGravitas··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
Yep just one man opposing cheap home grown energy: Trump.

And Putin. Two men, Trump, Putin and Farage.

Three men, Trump, Putin, Farage, and every far-right party in europe.

Among the people who are clearly involved in this conspiracy to deprive humanity of cheaper energy are...

ZeroGravitas··on Pretty soon, heat pumps will be able to store and distribute heat as needed
Home hot water heating in the UK with heat pumps is about 250-300% efficient (slightly lower than the efficiency of home heating but still much better than resistive).

No one is storing 1000C water at home.

It is true that the temperature deltas affects efficiency. You can use the thermocline to draw from the cooler lower portion of the storage tank to push this further. Or less technically, just a bigger tank, though this has some tradeoffs.

In warmer countries they are set up differently can act as free air conditioning by extracting heat from indoor air at the same time as heating water.

ZeroGravitas··on xAI joins SpaceX
In America they have "temporary" jet turbines parked next to them burning gas inefficiently with limited oversight on pollution and noise because they are "temporary".
ZeroGravitas··on Why Boys Are Behind in Reading at Every Age
How about saying that average reading performance is falling for all students? And that it's important to reverse that trend to have a better society.
ZeroGravitas··on Bill Gates says accusations contained in Epstein files are 'absolutely absurd'
Presumably Boris Nikolic who was named as one of the executors of Epstien's will, and publicly expressed surprise at that. He was a Gates foundation science advisor and is widely credited as being the go between for Gates and Epstien.

Notably Gates also had Dr Melanie Walker, a second long term confidant of Epstien working as a science advisor.

ZeroGravitas··on 'Melania' promises to take us behind the scenes. There's nothing to see
Directed by Brett Ratner who was accused of sexual misconduct by at least 6 coworkers.

Brett has the dubious claim to fame that two of his friends have killed themselves in jail while awaiting sentencing for child rape and child sex trafficking.

Apparently famous film director and child rapist Roman Polanski is his mentor and hero.

After Polanski fled the US to avoid arrest for the anal rape of a child, Brett had him do a cameo in one of his comedy films in which he painfully cavity searches the heroes.

What a strange and disappointing world we live in.

ZeroGravitas··on Pretty soon, heat pumps will be able to store and distribute heat as needed
It also exists, as described in the headline, as a tank of heated water.

The phase change stuff has positives like taking up less physical space but it's also a much less mature tech than storing hot water.

ZeroGravitas··on Pretty soon, heat pumps will be able to store and distribute heat as needed
Yes, it's the same tech. There's been products on the market for a while even though this press release tries to spin it like it's new and linked to heat pumps.
ZeroGravitas··on [dead]
Someone tried to get Grok to explain Musk's odd denial and it too was cagey, repeatedly returning to what he claimed despite it being contradicted in the released emails. Presumably he's tampered with it again.
ZeroGravitas··on What I learned building an opinionated and minimal coding agent

ZeroGravitas··on U.S. threat of 100% tariff on Korean memory chips at odds with reality
I'm sure the Chinese would absolutely hate it if they were given a good reason to deploy warships widely in a way that was welcomed by everyone.
ZeroGravitas··on Elon Musk pours millions more into helping Republicans keep Congress
Maybe the release of the embarrasing emails of him begging Epstein to let him join the sex parties was a warning that he needs Republicans in power to protect rich sex offenders?

I mean of all the emotions I expected to feel reading emails to a convicted child sex trafficker from a far right Billionaire, second hand cringe was not top of my list.

And his big plan is to make it harder for Americans to vote? Well I guess that makes sense when your policies are unpopular.

ZeroGravitas··on EV-1 for Lease (1996)
Except big oil is still lobbying incredibly hard against them, enough to make people worry that the US will fall behind the curve on this tech and being a key explanation of why China has taken a lead on this tech.

Just because they do it openly and often very stupidly doesn't stop it being a conspiracy.

This very article details this in relation to California regulations pushing for an EV:

>They didn't like it. So all 3 American car makers, including GM, rallied together, spent a lot of money lobbying, also did this in partnership with the oil companies, I'm sorry to say. The oil companies spent far more than the car companies. And the result was that they got this mandate ordered down, delayed, pushed aside last December. And at that point Ford and Chrysler and the other carmakers no doubt heaved huge sighs of relief and thought great, now we don't have to worry about electrics for at least another 5 years. And that was when GM startled them by saying that it had secretly revived the EV-1, and would be coming out with it this fall. So Ford and Chrysler are if anything angrier at GM, because now that this car's going to be a reality, if it succeeds they've got to compete with it.

ZeroGravitas··on Norway EV Push Nears 100 Percent: What's Next?
The incentives were obviously temporary and are already in the phase out stage with some starting being phased out since 2017.
ZeroGravitas··on Norway EV Push Nears 100 Percent: What's Next?
Norway already had cheap, clean electricity thanks to hydro, so it makes sense they would lead on EVs and heat pumps.
ZeroGravitas··on U.S. threat of 100% tariff on Korean memory chips at odds with reality
De-USA-fication maybe.

Canada and UK doing deals with China.

EU doing deals with India and South America.

Just one trading partner that's a loose cannon on the deck and no longer reliable.
