WraithM··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (December 2024)
I’m sorry to hear you had that experience, and I appreciate your feedback. We put a lot of care into evaluating every candidate’s take-home solution, and it’s never an auto-reject. Every decision is made by a person, an engineer at Bitnomial. I know take-homes are a big ask, and we try to make them meaningful and fair while respecting candidates' time. We're balancing trying to get as much signal as we can while not being brutal. Hiring is tough, and rejection is never easy, but we always strive to be thoughtful and respectful throughout the process.

By the way, we’ve hired several great engineers who didn’t make it through the process on their first try.

WraithM··on Hacking ADHD: Strategies for the modern developer
I can't recommend https://reclaim.ai highly enough, which the article mentions. It's absolutely a game-changer for me. My whole life is scheduled in my calendar. I have a bunch of automatic meetings with my team. It's really been a life-saver for the past couple of years. They're also always improving the product.
WraithM··on Milk Sad Disclosure
libbitcoin isn't a company. It's an alternative C++ implementation (https://github.com/libbitcoin) to the Bitcoin Core (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin) implementation. Bitcoin Core is the one originally from Satoshi. Libbitcoin came in like 2011 or so iirc and was led by Amir Taaki. Libbitcoin is a lot less popular than Bitcoin Core, as you can see on the github stats.
WraithM··on Apple Vision Pro developer kit
It is exactly what Apple did with the M1 chips. I had a developer kit Mac Mini with an M1 chip in it that I sent back to Apple when the developer period was over.

WraithM··on Show HN: Briefsky – a free Dark Sky clone for multiple weather APIs
I've needed a Dark Sky clone for ages! This is great.
WraithM··on The legacy of fy_iceworld, Counter-Strike’s divisive, popular custom map (2020)
One of the core skills of CS is peeking and spraying. fy_iceworld just decreases the iteration time while allowing you to chill and talk with friends and train basic skills.
WraithM··on Mac OS 9
Ohh! Don't tease me with Escape Velocity! It apparently needs 2050K more memory?
WraithM··on Simon Peyton Jones interview
We use Haskell at Bitnomial, and I can confirm that this is in fact the case. We've been able to incorporate new complex knowledge quickly in a way that most other languages would have more trouble with. Refactoring is a secret weapon for Haskell.

WraithM··on Emacs: Mastering Eshell
One mildly annoying thing about eshell is the lack of input redirection. I can most of the time rewrite my command to not use an input redirection or use some other emacs feature to do what I want (eg M-x sql-postgres), but out of habit, I trip over myself sometimes in eshell with respect to this.
WraithM··on Oral administration of NMN is safe and efficiently increases blood NAD levels

WraithM··on Types and Programming Languages (2002)
TaPL is an absolute classic. Highly recommended.

Definitely check out the website for the book, lots of materials there: https://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/tapl/index.html

Benjamin Pierce is also the author of Software Foundations: https://softwarefoundations.cis.upenn.edu/

Software Foundations is a book in Coq, where you need to prove theorems to compile the next chapters and such.

WraithM··on Building Container Images with Nix
Nix doesn't have incremental builds. It's kinda all or nothing at the package level.

This explains clearly why you'd want to combine both:
