WhatsName··on CTO / cofounder exit deal after 1.5y at 600k revenue without SHA
I think you are better off listening to lawyers instead of taking advice from strangers.

That being said that fact that there is no shareholder agreement might work in you favour here, since you can walk away and keep your 49% shares. Usually there are provisions that would prevent large stakes if an individual leaves the company early (vesting schedule/cliff).

WhatsName··on We fine-tuned Llama and got 4.2x Sonnet 3.5 accuracy for code generation
Talk is cheap, benchmarks please. Also why did you decide for LLama? AFAIK deepseek always had a slight edge over llama when it comes to coding performance, or is this no longer the case?
WhatsName··on Elon Musk wanted an OpenAI for-profit
I wonder if there are PR people out there, who watched the Wordpress vs. WPEngine disaster from the sideline and took notes.

For me this rhymes with recent history...

WhatsName··on Show HN: Credit reports about German companies
That is in principle correct, but since OP is using a throwaway and a know anonymous domain service. As long as he burns bridges after himself (eg. not making it into a adressable business later), there is not individual to deliver a letter to.

Might work for a while, but a dangerous game to play...

WhatsName··on Show HN: Credit reports about German companies
Given you are operating in Germany, where sending people cease-and-desist letters (Abmahnungen) purely for monetary gain, I would highly reccomend you to take good care of compliance topics like having a proper Impressum (mandatory contact page).

Unless of course if you plan on never ever growing it into a business, then you might get away with Njalla and cloudflare as invisibility cloak...

WhatsName··on The largest open-source dataset of car designs, including their aerodynamics
I recently wanted to design a flying wing/rc plane. Is there any FOSS to get reasonable results for aerodynamics?
WhatsName··on Helsing at Eurorust and the Oxidation of Defense
> To me, this sounds partially like an anachronistic appeal to big data, an unsurprising marketing spin for an industry still far behind the bleeding edge of software engineering.

Let's leave the politics aside for a moment, but is there any benefit to even be on the "bleeding edge of software engineering"? I would assume these engineers are measured by reliability of their product instead of a techstack that looks good on a resumee?

WhatsName··on Agent Graph System makes AI agents more reliable, gives them info step-by-step

WhatsName··on Show HN: Windsurf – Agentic IDE
How is this different from cursor?
WhatsName··on A return to hand-written notes by learning to read and write
What is currently state-of-the-art when it comes to detetcting handwriting from photos?

Tracing strokes is nice but I would be more interested in converting my handtaken notes to markdown.

WhatsName··on Eartho: Open-Source, Privacy-Focused Alternative to Google Sign-In
If yes, please give me a link, that would affect us big.
WhatsName··on Show HN: Dynamic IPv4/6 records for Cloudflare
Please explain to me why one would go this route instead of using cloud-flare tunnel, which are way more secure, by not exposing you to the outside?
WhatsName··on Ask HN: What type of Auth are you using on your side projects?
Django allauth, 10 years later still a no-brainer.

For selfhosting Authentik + Traefik forward auth is a unbeatable combo

WhatsName··on API-LLM-Hub: In-Browser LLM Integration for Static Websites
Can you elaborate on the plagiarism claims?

Please also explain, why import is not avaliable to static sites? To the contrary: https://caniuse.com/?search=es6 https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Refe...

While this is not the most elaborate of projects, it might be useful to somebody.

Here is a quote from the hn guidelines:

> Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine.

WhatsName··on New Mistral AI Weights
The name ist pixtral_12b_240910, size is 24gb. My best guess would be it's a multi modal LLM.
WhatsName··on 17-year-old student exposes Germany's 'secret' pirate site blocklist
My theory is that DNS blocking is chosen deliberately. There are more effective means of blocking, but if the bypass is just 5min work, those who care will bypass it and those who don't care enough will get blocked.

It's just after people get accustom to having a censorship infrastructure in place, it slowly starts spreading like cancer and gaining momentum...

WhatsName··on Proton announces release of a new VPN protocol, "Stealth"
> Without going into too much detail, Stealth also establishes VPN connections in a specific and unique way that avoids alerting internet filters.

I began mistrusting Proton some time ago with their hit piece on RAM-only VPN server confirming my bias.

Let's assume any adversary interested in reversing that new protocol, what's the point of not being transparent on how this new and fancy obfuscation works.

The TOR project has a lot of innovation in censorship circumvention[1] while still being transparent to their userbase.

WhatsName··on TikTok Collected US Users' Views on Gun Control, Abortion and Religion, US Says
Ban or sale does not imply there is an issue with the practice of collecting that data. The issue is avaliabilty and the lack of leverage since it's a foreign entity to force access into the trove of data that is collected.

Ad networks and brokers not only collect, but sell this data and nobody is pointing their fingers at the big players [1]

WhatsName··on [dead]
I imagine multiple badly written crawlers being stuck there as we speak...
WhatsName··on Shapeshift: Semantically map JSON objects using key-level vector embeddings
Maybe I'm not the target audience, but here are simple questions to the author or potential users:

What about anything more complex like date of birth to age or the other way round? Also since we will inevitably incur costs, why not let a llm write a transformation rule for us?

WhatsName··on Backdoor in D-Link routers enables telnet access
A quick look at shodan and it's painfully obvious that these words mean very litte if the device is widely in use.
WhatsName··on Backdoor in D-Link routers enables telnet access
How would anyone tell if this is not malicious in the first place? It quacks like a backdoor, looks like a backdoor...
WhatsName··on OpenAI appoints Retired U.S. Army General Paul M. Nakasone to Board
That is to be expected. GPT4o outperforms GPT4 on all vision tasks that I have thrown at it so far. It lacks GPT4s reasoning capabilities though.
WhatsName··on Little Snitch 6.0 Released
No longer using MacOSX, but this was definitely one of most useful and usable security tools ever created. Especially in a time, where more than half of all the anti-virus or firewalls you would get were just snake-oil.

I even got a nice bug bounty, because I discovered that a popular program pulled it's updates via HTTP and executed the downloaded executable directly thereafter.

WhatsName··on Rejected from YC. Reason: Because I don't have a cofounder
Can someone explain the rational for a cofounder, if you are a technical founder? Not sure if there are numbers on this, but it would guess there is an inherent risk associated with conflicts between two founders.
WhatsName··on Traefik Proxy v3.0.0 Released
My biggest gripe with traefik is how inflexible the whole middleware concept is.

One would think that checking against an IPAllowList and if not on the list requiring auth (basic or ForwardAuth) would be trivial. There is middleware for IPAllowList there is one for authentication, but the only way you could combine those is to deny requests not on the allowlist and then ask all on the list for authentication.

WhatsName··on Open-source alternative to Heroku, Vercel, and Netlify
Yes, I do the same. When I develop stuff, I tend to move quick and break things, which might involve swearing in git commit messages or just being plain stupid. I also have a habit of commiting sensitive information like host names, passwords or API-keys to private github repos, thinking not much about it.

If you take your scratch project to opensource, you typically don't have the time to make sure not only the current version, but also every intermediate result is free of flaws someone else might dig up.

So: mv private opensource; git init; git remote add ...; git push

An artist also wouldn't hang every draft drawing beside his gallery piece...

WhatsName··on Llama3 on Groq
What is tbe cost per Mio. Token for llama3 70b on groq?
WhatsName··on Proton and Standard Notes are joining forces
Is this a automated bot response? The main critique of the parent comment isn't that Proton engaging in many project, because of investors/ad revenue, but the act of doing so.

I'm a active Protonmail subscriber too, who downgraded to the mail business plan, because I too want Proton to focus on their core business and not engage in becoming a clone of Microsoft 365.

There used to be a regular vote on what users are mainly interested in. Maybe I missed it, but I too think that the risk of engaging in too many ventures will be the ultimate downfall. One last argument is, that hosting files and text and whatever is planned in the future weakens the legal ground to protect user privacy, as the (legal and technical) attack surface of hosting services is greater than just end-to-end encrypted email.
