WFHRenaissance··on Discovering faster matrix multiplication algorithms with reinforcement learning
Discovered. I'd go as far to say that all "invention" is actually just discovery that we find useful.
WFHRenaissance··on Building a Startup on Clojure
Counterpoint Part 4:

Esoteric languages by-nature have smaller populations of devs. They demand higher salaries for their specialist work. This can hurt you as you scale - salaries continue to increase (secularly), and the pool of possible engineers begins to shrink within your locale.

WFHRenaissance··on Harrison Bergeron (1961)
Yes, at least in English.

>the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

This is first degree satire. Your third degree satire is actually satire in the second degree.

WFHRenaissance··on Harrison Bergeron (1961)
What's a first degree satire look like then?
WFHRenaissance··on Nvidia in the Valley
Granted, my post is a reference to history (the iron rule of oligarchy is well-documented... polemic tone aside hehehe). OP's post is speculative.
WFHRenaissance··on LinkedIn ran social experiments on 20M users over 5 years
Linkedin is a private company and they're under no obligation to offer you any quality of service unless you sign an SLA.

>Metaverse and crypto will be a bust

I love when HN netizens just throw stuff like this out without further explanation. It's as if they're monks reciting the dogma. Sigh.

WFHRenaissance··on MinIO passes 1B cumulative Docker Pulls
I used MinIO exactly once, and overall it was a joy to use. Happy to hear it's getting some amount of traction.
WFHRenaissance··on Tether ordered to produce documents showing backing of USDT [pdf]
It was likely Tether being swapped for other stablecoins, or Tether swapped as a TETHER/USD pair on a centralized crypto market.
WFHRenaissance··on Tether ordered to produce documents showing backing of USDT [pdf]
But the numbers do add up?
WFHRenaissance··on Tether ordered to produce documents showing backing of USDT [pdf]
As of 2021, their reserves consist of:

Cash & Cash Equivalents & Other Short-Term Deposits & Commercial Paper (75.85%):

- Commercial Paper (65.39%)

- Fiduciary Deposits (24.20%)

- Cash (3.87%)

- Reverse Repo Notes (3.60%)

- Treasury Bills (2.94%)

Secured Loans (none to affiliated entities) (12.55%)

Corporate Bonds, Funds & Precious Metals (9.96%)

Other Investments (including digital tokens) (1.64%)

Anyone saying Tether is not backed in any way is illiterate or a conspiracy theorist.

WFHRenaissance··on DRUIDS: Datadog Reusable User Interface Design System
Managed services are always more expensive than DIY FWIW. You're paying to make running the product someone else's problem.
WFHRenaissance··on DRUIDS: Datadog Reusable User Interface Design System
Say what you want about Datadog's pricing and sales tactics... the product is a joy to use.
WFHRenaissance··on The collapse of cryptokitties, the first big blockchain game
This is a problem that's actively being worked on (SudoSwap as an AMM for NFTs, Scatter.art as a competitor, et cetera).
WFHRenaissance··on The Ethereum merge is done
bonk
WFHRenaissance··on Twilio to lay off 11% of workforce
Sheesh. That's a pretty large chunk... ~865 people.
WFHRenaissance··on Tornado Cash and bullets
>I want order and good government and societies built on peace, trust, and reliable justice.

LOL I'd be curious to know which country you think this is possible in. The contemporary democratic nation state is a facade over a distributed and decentralized oligarchy.

WFHRenaissance··on Tornado Cash and bullets
Broken analogy. Tornado Cash is more like a gun manufacturer than a gun passer in this case.
WFHRenaissance··on Tornado Cash and bullets
This only applies to directly soliciting a specific crime. That isn't what's happening here.
WFHRenaissance··on Jean-Luc Godard has died
It's sad, but I assumed he was already dead.
WFHRenaissance··on Is early-onset cancer an emerging global epidemic?
LOL yes this is what I meant!
WFHRenaissance··on Is early-onset cancer an emerging global epidemic?
> Young (< 50) healthy adults shouldn’t even really be getting annual checkups (in my professional opinion and per several guidelines) and annual blood work is definitely not indicated.

Tell this to my mom.

WFHRenaissance··on San Francisco decriminalizes psychedelics
regret
WFHRenaissance··on Queen Elizabeth II has died
Really finding out whose reactionary vs revolutionary today at work.
WFHRenaissance··on What makes a good REPL? (2017)
auto-completion.
WFHRenaissance··on The most-regretted (and lowest-paying) college majors
I studied semiotics at Brown... but almost everyone working next to me studied CS/IT/DS for undergrad.

I often wonder if I would regret studying semiotics if I never learned to code (granted, I was writing code before college).

I do think studying semiotics is part of what got me interested in doing something meaningful with my life.

Anyone else here have an unconventional degree while also being a relative success story?

WFHRenaissance··on GitHub Outage
I'm unicorning hard rn
WFHRenaissance··on [dead]
Yep, us-east-coast here and can't push commits
WFHRenaissance··on Violence-as-a-Service: Brickings, Firebombings and Shootings for Hire
Back in my day you’d just pay the neighborhood troublemaker to slash your ex’s tires. My oh my how times have changed!
