My wife and daughter seem to be very receptive to dark patterns. It's about education and understanding but you also need to care. They don't. Alas.

Your wife probably just wants a smooth user experience and an app delivers on that. Apps have a clear way of installing and onboarding.

I discovered that all our self hosted applications were easily adopted after I added SSO. My wife just wants one account to rule them all.

I got her accustomed to installing web apps by adding all the links in a shared note. She clicks the link, pins the site and uses SSO to log in. Easy.

I would say using the web"app" give a better user experience since you always have the latest version without the need for updates. Only if offline use is possible an app would be necesarry.
W3zzy··on Where can I see Hokusai's Great Wave today?
The Japanese also look at this from a different angle. A shrine that has been rebuild every few decades is still an ancient shrine to them. A reprint of an ancient block print is still an original to them.

I get confronted with the preservation of buildings quite often and have to point out now and then that the building they are trying to preserve is nowhere near the original. Through the ages we've modified those building to suit our needs. Why stop now?

It's only a matter of preserving culture with respect do or the past.

I did that a while ago and stopped immediately because it's scary and irrelevant. My parents house was wrote expensive at the rule they bought it at 600.000 Bfr. Now it's being valued at 600.000 euros. That's a factor 40 over about 30 years. When euro landed a beer cost about 45 Bfr, a bit over a euro. Now I pay €2,5. It's hard to compare prices over that period of time.

Belgium had double denominations for about two years. My mother owned a business at that time and she used the occasion to correct the prices a bit bit that was only because she lagged a bit on inflation.

The government was not the victim in deed. But up until today you can see the results amongst the population. You can Prune for growt or you can just cut the plant to the ground hoping it will survive.

True, it felt a whole lot like Croatia near the coast of Montenegro save for the complemantairy ketchup they offer with pizza.
W3zzy··on Why English doesn't use accents
I have French as second and English as my third language. English comes easy and natural because we're saturated by the language. That's one of the reasons my children don't mispronounce English words as often as they do French words. Both languages are equally terrible. On the other hand a few weeks ago my daughter demonstrated a nearly perfect pronunciation of Italian while reading a text without understanding a word. Looks like the Italians got their shit straight. Apart from pistacchio. Nobody pronounces it pistacchio...

People just don't pay attention to colour temperature. Warm LED lights should be more common in stead of those filthy blue LED's
