W3zzy··on Aphantasia Beginner's Guide
I don't see my dreams either. Dreams, when they occur (it's very rare), are a flurry of words and feelings.
W3zzy··on State of the Map 2026
True, I use mapcomplete or streetcomplete to kill time when traveling. I use public transport a lot. I've racked up thousands of minor edits, addi g opening hours, accesability info and what not to the map. It's been very satifactory.

I work in public service and I've grotten so many people on board that the map in my region is pretty darned good.

W3zzy··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
Thatshouldn't be right since there is free mouvement of goods and persons in the EU
W3zzy··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
There is a EU company registration in the maling. You register your business on that platform and it will be recognized as a EU company wich should make it easier to comply.
W3zzy··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
I feel like it would've been a better choice to start this petition on the EU's platform.

W3zzy··on Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM
Nah, I'm not complaining. I love the freedom of Linux. I'm fairly new at the game so today I'll be teaching myself how not to mess up like this again.
W3zzy··on Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM
Could be. I'm new to the game. Started homelabbing a year ad a half ago.

Thing is that I never know this could happen. As a Windows user I'm used to a system that does stuff in the background without knowing how it works.

My Linux VM's can be broken because I'm in charge and I'm a noob. I kind of love it. I've learned so much from troubleshooting.

W3zzy··on Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM
True. It's just a tiny Lenovo that I've repurposed as a homelab and that is punching above it's weight with to many applications I suppose. Either way the logs point to RAM issues but it could be my incompetence.
W3zzy··on Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM
Haven't had Windows freeze on me for ages. I had a frozen linux server that ran out of RAM yesterday.
W3zzy··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
I would never sell my marked up books. They're too precious.
W3zzy··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
One of our government agencies has expert panels where people from the field and in different lecels of administration get consulted in group about legislativ or procedural issues. They call it round tables and they get organised about three times a year on different fields of expertise.

After these round tables the reports go to the cabinets and eventually the refined versions will be presented before the MP. They make new legislation bases on a structural review of procedures and law and that is how a government could operate without hiring expensive experts. You already have the experts on board, let them participate.

W3zzy··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
They're experts. There is no end to efficiency.
W3zzy··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
I want through the same processen three times already.

I work in civil service but in a very specific job that needs certain degrees by law.

I've heard they were going to outsource my job (because civil servant are expensive) and registered a company that delivers the requested services. I entered a public procurement and upped my price a little because I knew there aren't many people with the right certifications. I won the public procurement and went from a civil servant to a self employed expert with a company car and all the perks.

Near the end of my contract they thought about hiring their own expert again because... money.

I applied for the job and went through an external hiring process and got selected. Because legislation changed my job went from middle management to a senior management position with extra benefits. Had to drop the car though...

A few months ago my colleagues were doing prekilinary budget talks and considered on finding an external company to do my job and getting me another position. I had to point out the cycle they fell into and somehow they forgot about it.

W3zzy··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
Who's talking about 1900? We have a part in the city that was built in the 1600's. These buildings have thick stone walls that are prone to condensation during the summer. It's easy to deal with when you open a window in the morning or keep the bathroom door open after showering.

These buildings will have ventilation eventually but the code needs about 20 years to take full effect.

Mind you that people have been living in those buildings for hundreds of years without issues but tennants these days don't seem to have the basic skill of airing their place.

W3zzy··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
I meant that in our country vermin is a tennants issue, not the owner's. Only when the state of the building (large holes) facilitates the ingres of insects or rodents you could mobilise tge landlord.
W3zzy··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
Good pointer. Bleach isn't more effective than regular soap or hydrogen peroxyde.
W3zzy··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
But is it the landlord's issue?
W3zzy··on The 2-Year Apartment Rule
Yes, but no. We have historic, sometimes even mediaeval buildings. They weren't built with the current energy efficiency in mind. Leaving the bathroom door open after showering. Not putting furniture flus against the wall are simple measures you could take that don't need structural adaptations. I know there are plentiful of technical options but some common sense goes a long way.
W3zzy··on US is making Europe pay dearly for its half-hearted electrification
We'll get there.Today I was payed for using electricity. Market prices were negative. Yesterday they were too.

https://elex.mk/platform

I filled up my car and batteries and even though negative prices will be scrace in the future near 0 euro prices won't be.

I am happy with the high prices because they push us to renewables even faster.

W3zzy··on The Joy of Folding Bikes
The Decahlon folder folds faster than a Brompton. A friends of mine has both and he's trying to convince me on buying the cheap decathlon bike over a Brompton. The demonstration was convincing.

I'm a big fan of the fact that you can push a Brompton while folded. A feature that other folders miss.

W3zzy··on The creative software industry has declared war on Adobe
I am aware of the trap they set up. That's why I brothers me that the don't teach with FOSS in design schools. They'l do their studentes a favor. It's easier to switch from any FOSS alternative to Adobe cc than otherwise.
W3zzy··on The creative software industry has declared war on Adobe
$120 a year for professional use is dirt cheap. My daughter is a graphic design student and gets a free CC ride during her studies. If she would have to pay for the apps should would have a hard time.

What bothers me is that the school doesn't allow students using open source software. They're all locked in the closed ecosystem and keep their students in software jail too.

W3zzy··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
I've started my Linux journey a decent year ago. It's been fun but I'm happy that they're such a great community to troubleshoot along with me. Never tried Arch but I do love a barebones no fuzz system.

W3zzy··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
I use the swipe library (Glide typing) but you need to install that seperately.

Apparently the voice input is not coming from Heliboard. You could use an alternative service like futo voice input.

W3zzy··on Danish supermarket chain is setting up "Emergency Stores"
Diets, indeed.
W3zzy··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
Alas, I don't think it's available on iOS.
W3zzy··on Danish supermarket chain is setting up "Emergency Stores"
I think Belgium is the most stable unstable country in the world. We're always on strike, only surpassed by the French. At any given moment one of our seven governments is in a state of crisis. Somehow I feel like we'll make it though three days of lockdown without any issues.

I tried to sign up as a reservist - civil personell - because I feel like my logistic expertise could come in handy but sadly I passed 40 a few years ago and I'm deemed to old for service, even as a reservist.

W3zzy··on Danish supermarket chain is setting up "Emergency Stores"
Au contraire, mon ami. In all the geopolitical madness it's time to reclaim what was ours onder Charles Quint. Habsburg rises again! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_V,_Holy_Roman_Emperor#...
