W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Open-Source Rust Alternatives to Adobe Apps
Played around with the photoshop equivalent. It's pretty impressive what it has so far, everything seems to work on my existing PSD projects. The main thing I can't seem to do now is import Actions.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
Not experiencing any of these issues today testing with some of my projects. Main issue I see is I'm unable to import Actions.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
Maybe it's been updated since his post, but I experience none of these issues in my testing.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Ask HN: How would you feel if we nationalized Google?
Just don't use google search. I haven't used it in years.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
At most you might try to argue negligence, but there's no sign that OpenAI is being a malicious bad actor here. Adding unwanted elements to image generation is undesirable by all parties, including OpenAI.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on ChatGPT is adding real cartoonists' signatures to fake New Yorker cartoons
That one isn't stealing either.

People understand it just fine. Civilized people just reject it because Marx was a fool, and only followed by other fools and adult children.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on DaVinci Resolve 21.1
I'd be happy to buy if it they add proper linux support. I have an AMD card and I don't feel like fighting with the install process.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Deus Ex creator Warren Spector is retiring from game development
Tim Schafer has had a pretty good run over his career
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Deus Ex creator Warren Spector is retiring from game development
yeah, it's meaningful when you can tell a particular designer's touch on a game
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Bluesky Protocol Services
Yeah, it's nothing against the platform itself, it just happened to get a population boost from dissatisfied people. It seems so many of them are just miserable and there to create a feedback loop of negativity.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on TSA Privatization Returns Airport Security to a Dangerous Past
The TSA has always been taxpayer-funded security theater, and routinely fails at it's own job.

Airports and Airliners should be paying for their own security.

W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Kill The Cookie Banner
This is conflating different things. They are trying to use people's annoyance with the banner THEY caused to build support for another legislation.

Cookies were never a problem. Just get rid of the banner.

This other legislation should pass/fail on its own merit.

W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Brewhaha: Turns out machines can't replace people, Starbucks finds
Yet.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Every company should be owned by its employees
This is a very good and understated point. One of the benefits we have as employers is being unattached. If things go bad, we can cut and run to some other company. On the other hand, the owners and primary investors are by definition more invested, and have to actual bear the burden of failure. I definitely didn't want that level of involvement in most of the companies I have worked for.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Ente Auth: open-source Authy alternative for 2FA
It means you are providing two factors, not necessarily that you only have two factors.

There are benefits to this. I've left my phone at work, and would have been SOL, except I have a tablet that never leaves my home which can also provide my second factor.

W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on GitHub repo extensively mirrored by GitCode, platform launched by China's CSDN
stolen or mirrored?
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Flameshot – Open-source screenshot software
Been using this for a few years now. First grabbed it because I wanted a linux alternative to ShareX, but now I use it on windows too. It's great!
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Use Rails
Yeah, my organization does not disclose, but I can say I've used AdonisJS in production in the financial industry for about for about 6 years now.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Use Rails
I use Lucid which is also maintained by the AdonisJS team (it's built upon Knex). I do development with SQLite then migrate to MSSQL for production (the latter not my choice, but organizational, but it rolls with it just fine). It has served my needs well.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Use Rails
AdonisJS is also really great, very much inspired by Laravel (which was inspired by Rails)
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Use Rails
These days I prefer using a NodeJS framework like AdonisJS over Ruby on Rails, but Rails had an important role in getting us here.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Internet Service Providers Plan to Subvert Net Neutrality. Don't Let Them
Remember when everyone was in a tizzy and the advocacy press was assuring us that the two year old net neutrality policy being removed would destroy the internet?
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Three virtues of a great programmer
He gives his meaning for hubris. Seems silly to disagree based on a different definition that he's not using.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Three virtues of a great programmer
Oldie but a goodie
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Ruby 3.3 on Rails 1.0
RoR was cool way back when, but these days I'm much happier using nodejs with a framework like Adonis
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Barrier: Open-Source KVM Software
It's in a pretty good state, I've been using Barrier for years.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Profits are driving inflation. When will politicians and the BoE admit it?
no don't you understand, the egg producers just became more greedy for a bit and raked in extra profits, then decided to become less greedy! Get out of here with your important context!
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Profits are driving inflation. When will politicians and the BoE admit it?
This is propaganda, trying to explain current conditions in a way to fit their preferred narrative. This is like claiming that if you sneeze that causes you to get a cold.
W3cUYxYwmXb5c··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
they keep making minor changes like this that invariably make things worse. For me it's the loss of controls for quickly removing individual videos from the Watch Later playlist.
