Vomzor··on Using Bee Stings to Treat Lyme Disease
There only have been a couple antibiotic studies, it's hard to get funding for more elaborate studies because of the controversy. Those studies ignore the research on biofilms and only gave antibiotics for a couple weeks. And even in those flawed studies there was a marked improvement in quality of life for Lyme patients.

Let's take the PLEASE[0] study for example. Although significant improvement in health was measured (on average 4.6 points on the SF-36 scale; 3 points is considered significant progress) the results were presented with the headline: 'Long-term use of antibiotics does not benefit long-term complaints of Lyme'.

While tens of thousands of patients have been cured by a cocktail of antibiotics taken for several months or sometimes years. This is also what the current in vitro research is showing. Lyme persisters can only be killed by a combination of antibiotics.[1] Like tuberculosis. And it's also what this data analysis of 200 patients shows.[2]

>We collected data from an online survey of 200 of our patients, which evaluated the efficacy of dapsone (diaminodiphenyl sulfone, ie, DDS) combined with other antibiotics and agents that disrupt biofilms for the treatment of chronic Lyme disease/post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS). ... Conclusion DDS CT decreased eight major Lyme symptoms severity and improved treatment outcomes among patients with chronic Lyme disease/PTLDS and associated coinfections.

And recently we have the spectacular results of Disulfiram.[3] A clinical trial is underway at Colombia University so we won't have offical results until 2021 but all signs point to it being a gamechanger. Lyme communities are full of people with miracle stories after taking Disulfiram.

Vomzor··on Using Bee Stings to Treat Lyme Disease
During a panel at this years LymeMIND conference a representative from the CDC named Susanna Visser said that she and her team absolutely believe in persistent Lyme, and that the CDC website now acknowledges it on a basic level.

>Why some patients experience PTLDS is not known. Some experts believe that Borrelia burgdorferi can trigger an “auto-immune” response causing symptoms that last well after the infection itself is gone. Auto–immune responses are known to occur following other infections, including campylobacter (Guillain-Barré syndrome), chlamydia (Reiter’s syndrome), and strep throat (rheumatic heart disease). Other experts hypothesize that PTLDS results from a persistent but difficult to detect infection. Finally, some believe that the symptoms of PTLDS are due to other causes unrelated to the patient’s Borrelia burgdorferi infection.

Vomzor··on Using Bee Stings to Treat Lyme Disease
The gold standard in microbiology for diagnosing an infectious disease has always been to culture the organism alive. Despite notorious difficulties in culturing Borrelia burgdorferi, in about 30 studies this organism has been cultured alive from patients despite at least standard antibiotic therapy, and in many cases after antibiotics far in excess of what is deemed curative by IDSA and CDC. If the pathogen that causes a disease is still present in conjunction with symptoms compatible with that infection, it would appear to me that the fundamental questions about the cause of long term symptoms should have been answered a very long time ago. To add insult to injury, recent studies from Tulane, Johns Hopkins, and Northeastern University all demonstrate that we can’t even kill Borrelia in the test tube with the currently recommended antibiotics. What are the chances that a second disease of mysterious etiology but with the same symptoms as the first disease, would come and replace the first disease when there is published evidence that the pathogen which causes the first disease persists despite both short and long-term antibiotics? There are numerous chronic bacterial infections which require long-term combination antibiotic therapies: Tuberculosis, leprosy, coxiella endcocarditis, brucellosis, Whipple’s. Why should Lyme be different?

>In 2016, Venkata Raveendra Pothineni and colleagues at Stanford reported on new drug candidates against Borrelia burgdorferi using a technique known as high-throughput screening. They ranked disulfiram as number one in activity against Bb among their top 20 hits. https://www.lymedisease.org/disulfiram-kinderlehrer/

>Dr. Kenneth Liegner has had the longest experience treating tick-borne infections with disulfiram. He is seeing sustained remissions of six months or more after completing treatment in many patients. Dr. Liegner’s first patient had been on triple antibiotic treatment for eight years for Lyme disease and babesiosis, and could not stop his treatment regimen without suffering a relapse. He took disulfiram for four months and has now been off all treatment for almost two and a half years, feeling better than ever. https://www.lymedisease.org/disulfiram-kinderlehrer-2/

Disulfiram is a gamechanger. People on reddit, on facebook and in the casestudy of Dokter Kenneth Liegner[0], people who were still sick after they were on antibiotics for years, are suddenly seeing amazing improvements after only a short time on Disulfiram.

Strange isn't it that an antimicrobial has such amazing results for a disease that supposedly is psychological or autoimmune...

Vomzor··on Adventures in Netflix
You can watch Netflix in 1080p on macOS by using Safari. Chrome and Firefox don’t support the drm used by Netflix.

As for 4k on macOS:

>The DRM Netflix uses for 4K content is the new HDCP 2.2 (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), which macOS does not support as of Mojave. https://www.howtogeek.com/412033/how-to-watch-netflix-in-4k-...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe one of the advantages of macOS is that the GPU can use the system ram for deep learning. Which makes it possible to use cheaper GPUs. One of the reasons I'm looking forward to better AMD Tensorflow support.

To add on this. I believe Alzheimer’s is a set of symptoms causes by different bacteria and viruses. Not a disease in itself. And not one single virus or bacteria. See also the recent found link between Alzheimer's and dental bacteria. Or the link between Alzheimer’s and Lyme disease. Like this misdiagnosis: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kris-kristofferson-misdiagnosed...

And this:

>In Miklossy’s work, Borrelia burgdorferi—the species of spirochete that causes Lyme, was identified in 451 out of the 495 Alzheimer’s-riddled brains they examined. Yet, her work at the time was derived by other researchers and until recently, she had difficulty securing funding.

I've become convinced a lot of what we now consider mental illnesses are actually symptoms caused by unknown pathogens. Inflammation plays a big part in this.

Vomzor··on Bob Iger Takes the Gloves Off for Disney’s Streaming Debut
Sadly the majority of sociologists still seems to believe the debunked theory of nurture over nature[1] and tend to ignore all things biology. Consequently, a lot of gender related studies are just ideology instead of robust science.

In the last decades STEM enrollment for girls rose in poor countries. And Disney movies are watched worldwide, including poor countries...

- Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/coreimage.cicolo...

Vomzor··on Apple Developer Documentation Is Missing
A lot of Apple documentation is just a list of functions a class has without any explanation whatsoever. Many sample projects are written in older swift versions and don't compile anymore. Xcode 11 can only convert swift 4 to swift 5. A lot of samples are still swift 2 or 3. So you either have to manually fix the errors or install an older xcode version to convert them. Such a waste of time.

And you know it's bad when Microsoft has better Apple docs than Apple has: https://twitter.com/akashivskyy/status/1187790245804367873

Vomzor··on Disney: Bob Iger bets the company (and Hollywood's future) on streaming
The only streaming services that really matter are the ones that are global. Prime, Netflix, Disney. Netflix has a huge headstart. I believe almost 60 % of their subscribers are outside usa. They make local originals in every region they are. Just look at the amount of Spanish language originals that came out this year. Spanish, Dutch, Turkish, Korean, Italian, ... originals. It’s their ‘secret’ weapon.
Vomzor··on All plastic waste could be recycled into new plastic: researchers
Exactly.

> But research shows that a wrapped cucumber lasts more than three times as long as an unwrapped one. It will also lose just 1.5 per cent of its weight through evaporation after 14 days, compared with 3.5 per cent in just three days for an exposed cucumber. A longer life, Aldridge writes, means less frequent deliveries, with all their consequent energy costs, and, crucially, less waste. Globally, we throw out as much as 50 per cent of food, often when it perishes. It typically goes to landfill and gives off methane, a greenhouse gas.

Vomzor··on The Necessity of Nuclear
>We've sunk untold billions into nuclear, a very small fraction of what has gone into renewables.

It’s the other way around. If the money poured into renewables had gone to nuclear there would be no climate crisis.

>Had California and Germany invested $680 billion into new nuclear power plants instead of renewables like solar and wind farms, the two would already be generating 100% or more of their electricity from clean (low-emissions) energy sources

From: https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelshellenberger/2018/09/11...

There are 9 countries with nukes and 31 with nuclear power. The idea that nuclear power plants were build to acquire nukes seems unlikely.

Vomzor··on The Necessity of Nuclear
What mess? The waste is being kept in manned facilities and will likely be repurposed in the next 20 years as fuel for a new generation of nuclear reactors. The first commercial nuclear power plant was in 1956. If you think about it, we are dealing with the 'mess' of the previous generation. And we are doing fine.
Vomzor··on The Necessity of Nuclear
Is nuclear waste even still a problem? We have been storing nuclear waste for more than 60 years in ‘temporary facilities ’ while we’re looking for permanent solutions. As far as I know, nothing happened in that time. Let’s just drop the ‘temporary’ label, keep doing what we’re doing and stop worrying about hypothetical scenarios where society will collapse and some farmer 1000 years from now will get radiation poisoning.

Vomzor··on Federal Judge Upholds Harvard's Race-Conscious Admissions Process
>Irish immigrants, many of whom were very poor, were more of an underclass than the Germans. In Ireland, the English had oppressed the Irish for centuries, eradicating their language and culture and discriminating against their religion (Catholicism). Although the Irish had a larger population than the English, they were a subordinate group. This dynamic reached into the new world, where Anglo Americans saw Irish immigrants as a race apart: dirty, lacking ambition, and suitable for only the most menial jobs. In fact, Irish immigrants were subject to criticism identical to that with which the dominant group characterized African Americans. By necessity, Irish immigrants formed tight communities segregated from their Anglo neighbors. The later wave of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe was also subject to intense discrimination and prejudice. In particular, the dominant group—which now included second- and third-generation Germans and Irish—saw Italian immigrants as the dregs of Europe and worried about the purity of the American race (Myers 2007). Italian immigrants lived in segregated slums in Northeastern cities, and in some cases were even victims of violence and lynchings similar to what African Americans endured. They worked harder and were paid less than other workers, often doing the dangerous work that other laborers were reluctant to take on. https://courses.lumenlearning.com/alamo-sociology/chapter/re...

- So I take it Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans and Americans of Eastern-European descent, most of them having arrived in states without Jim Crow laws, won't have to pay?

- Will white people who's ancestors fought and died for the union side in the civil war have to pay or maybe they get a discount?

- Will white people who arrived in the last 20 years have to pay?

- Will poor white people have to pay?

- Does this cover rich African Americans or does the money only go to those with less money than white people?

- The average black family is 7x poorer than the average asian family. Does that mean Asians have to pay too?

Vomzor··on How Much Air Pollution Is Produced by Rockets? (2017)
>There has been no comparable advance in space flight technology in the last 58 years.

Because there was no incentive. Space was something governments did and after the USA won the space race, interest waned. SpaceX proved there is a commercial market. Now we are witnessing the start of a commercial space boom. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_private_spaceflight_co... Look at the number of launchers in development. Competition = innovation. And once space mining has been proven as a concept, then the real boom will begin. I'm optimistic and expect all of this to happen in the next 20 years.

>What is this new propulsion technology that you anticipate?

Ion drives?, scramjets?, something that hasn't been discovered yet?, ... I honestly don't know but I doubt we will still be stuck with chemical rockets a 100 years from now.

Vomzor··on How Much Air Pollution Is Produced by Rockets? (2017)
The point I was trying to make is that we are only at the dawn of commercial space flight. Compare the first commercial airplane flights, technology and cost, to today's 20 euro Ryanair flights. The same will happen with space.

>The same is true for spaceflight, where the formulas for rocket propelled vehicles are well understood.

You are assuming there never will be a replacement for rocket technology. I think you're wrong.
