Voltage··on Ask HN: What's your favorite elegant/beautiful algorithm?
In graphics.... I'm a fan of - Sphere tracing distance fields (Ray marching distance fields)

and

- Marching Cubes

Voltage··on SOD: An Embedded OpenCV Alternative
Cost's money to use commercially.
Voltage··on Joint 3D Face Reconstruction
Check out an iPhone app called AffdexMe. It turns a photo into an animated 3d avatar in a few seconds.

I work in AR/VR and we are evaluating whether the iphone can be used for decent facial capture.

Voltage··on Magic mushrooms found to lift severe depression in clinical trial
"I also have more advice for newcomer shroomers: one thought can spiral downward or upward. Try your best to stay optimistic and open to the experience."

I agree that thoughts can spiral out of control, which is to some degree what depression is for me. Trying to stay optimistic and open is a standard day when I'm having a low period.

Voltage··on 30 years later, QBasic is still the best
I've had life long friendships start based on the fact that they had a C64 Disk Drive and/or printer.
Voltage··on Glittering Blue
I also get a loading 0%. OSX Chrome.

I'm intrigued but don't understand the comic.

Voltage··on Unreal Engine 4.9 Released
I use it on OSX just fine. I also work sharing content with colleagues across filesystems.

Regarding Blender, Unreal accepts FBX file format, and I've had no issues with imports from Blender.

Voltage··on A concise JavaScript tutorial for beginners
Is slide 34 correct?

My tests show that the top example is incorrect.

Voltage··on ArnoldC: Programming language based on the one-liners of Arnold Schwarzenegger
I always wanted to make a whole movie out of Arnie one-liners. This is awesome :)
Voltage··on Drop dead
This picture will remain in the cloud for eternity.

When assial recognition software becomes more prevalent, they can use this image to match his identity to future crimes (in which he leaves an ass print behind).

Voltage··on How many Commodore 64 computers were really sold? (2011)
" If the secondary address isn't specified or is specified as 0 (e.g. LOAD "FILE",8), the file is saved/loaded from the BASIC memory area (which, on the C64, starts by default at $0801). If the secondary address is specified as a non-zero value (e.g. LOAD "FILE",8,1), the program is loaded starting from the address specified by the file itself (the PRG header, which is the first two bytes of the file)—this form of command is more common when loading machine code programs."

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_DOS

You are right in that auto loaders can be created using this method, but the ,1 means, load this file to the memory location specified by the first 2 bytes of the file.

Voltage··on How many Commodore 64 computers were really sold? (2011)
8 = device number (disk drive). If you had multiple drives (up to 4) you would use, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

the ,1 meant load this file to it's defined start address, which was held in the first 2 bytes of the file. It could be omitted in most cases.

Voltage··on Metaballs and Marching Squares
I did some 3d metablobs using raymarching in a 4k exe.

Voltage··on Learning Modern OpenGL
4.3 on OSX? Do you mean 4.1?

I recently jumped to mac, and have been using OpenGL for a long time under Windows.

The best I can get is an OpenGL 4.1 context on an up to date Macbook Pro (May 2014).

Voltage··on Infinite complexity in 4096 bytes
Here's my first 4k production: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBcwQCBpEiE

If you want to play with this type of code right now in your browser, check this out... http://glsl.heroku.com/e#2431.0

Voltage··on J3D - javascript webGL engine
The Unity 3D export is fantastic.

Here's hoping that webGL gains full traction.

Voltage··on The Demoscene -- an Overview
Aussie demo coder here. I've just rejoined the scene after 10 years away, and we are creating our first PC release for Syntax 2010 (Melbourne) in November. I went to Syntax 09 to immerse myself in the scene culture after a decade away. It was a really fun evening. I met a bunch of geeks, drank beer and talked/toyed technology.

When I was young, it was all about the technology.. then I met beer and girls... now I'm married with kids and it's all about the technology.

See you at Syntax 2010.

Voltage··on The Best Of The 2009 Demoscene - incredible mem management
Actually I went to the Syntax party in Melbourne last October. You can see the retro invitation in the article (number 5).

I met some cool Sydney based sceners and we had beer and food at my place a couple of days ago. We've just formed a new group.

We'll be doing PC based demos and c64 demos.

In the scene in the late 80's for a couple of years, then lurking for a lot of years... and now back in.
