Vermyndax··on AI can cost more than human workers now
Absolutely unsurprised by your user name.
Vermyndax··on Siddhartha
Buddhism isn't a religion either... or is that what you meant?
Vermyndax··on How I Experience Web Today (2021)
This has been my mental shift as well. I also decide this when someone tells me the site only works in Chrome, so I should switch to Chrome. No, thanks.
Vermyndax··on Stack Overflow and OpenAI are partnering
If I wanted to use OpenAI, I would. If I wanted to use StackOverflow, I would. Now I just only get to use OpenAI no matter what.

This hellscape is forming way too fast.

Vermyndax··on I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own
There is some syntax highlighting for Terraform in nano, so maybe I should try rolling with the terminal for a while.
Vermyndax··on I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own
* Drag/drop support from Finder. * Git pre-commit chokes Sublime Merge (for some weird reason), I'm sure I can troubleshoot this but I every time I take a swing at it, it blows up in my face and I give up * Strange autocomplete issues * A few other things I forget about, but will try it again and see if I can remember
Vermyndax··on I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own
Yeah, the LSP does seem to go through some seriously bad days/weeks.
Vermyndax··on I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own
I use vscode for doing devops-y things (Terraform, OpenTofu, JSON, python, yaml, txt, dockerfiles, etc.) and sometimes the way it bogs down my system drives me bananas. I'll punt to Sublime Text on occasion and use it for a few days, but then start running into papercuts in various places and have to go back to vscode. I so, so wish there was a better way to do this without fucking electron.
Vermyndax··on Now it looks like Facebook is fighting ad blockers too
This afternoon, Facebook appears to be trying to circumvent ad blockers.
Vermyndax··on Spotify CEO Daniel Ek tells investors Apple's DMA rules are a 'farce'
If you think Spotify has only done one bad thing, you're delusional.

There's mountains of evidence that shows how they regularly fleece artists. Just last week this site hosted a story that researched how they're now using AI to generate fake music to avoid paying artists even further.

They pay a fortune to Joe Rogan, a man who is willfully destroying the country by spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories.

This company is responsible for so, so much damage.

Vermyndax··on Native Exchange Support is coming to Thunderbird
Before you all get too excited, please remember that Exchange admins can control which clients are allowed to connect to their service, and Microsoft actively advises them to shut out everything but recent versions of Microsoft clients.

Source: me, at almost all of my jobs, after being told to lock people out for using third party clients.

Please supply this feedback and participate.

Vermyndax··on Show HN: I made an app that consolidated 18 apps (doc, sheet, form, site, chat…)
Unfortunately, it always matters. There's always someone who wants to know where the data is physically located and they will always want an answer for it.
Vermyndax··on 9 years of Apple text editor solo dev
One environment with support on a vast plethora of devices and a long lifespan.
Vermyndax··on After self-hosting email for 23 years I have thrown in the towel (2022)
I came to a similar sad conclusion many years ago. I just didn't have enough time to continue the fight. It sucks.
Vermyndax··on How An Apple Gadget Is Helping Drug Traffickers
This happens if you're using iCloud Private Relay or some other type of privacy service.
Vermyndax··on If needed, you have a role at Microsoft that matches your compensation
We'll see this again in discovery.
Vermyndax··on Apple to Launch 'Low-Cost' MacBook Series Next Year to Rival Chromebooks
Did you know that it has a three-year lifespan mandated by Google, and after that it will not receive upgrades?
Vermyndax··on Apple to Launch 'Low-Cost' MacBook Series Next Year to Rival Chromebooks
The only thing people are missing here is that it's not just about the hardware, it's about Chrome in particular.

Our school system "requires" the use of the Chrome browser because of the third-party plugins that only support Chrome. The school board thinks the best way to do that is... of course... to buy Chromebooks.

They're awful. Terribly slow, constantly breaking, and a total disaster. I'd love to see MacBooks come into use here, but sadly it's not just about the hardware. The school board has to stop being lured by shitty software vendors.

Yes, I'd love to vote them out.

Vermyndax··on Killed by Google
Still do not understand why people trust Google at all.
Vermyndax··on Write your passwords down (2010)
All I got out of this blog entry is that if I were a thief and I managed to steal this fellow's wallet, I would find the piece of paper in his wallet along with his ID card. I would then Google his name to find this blog post, which will helpfully allow me to decrypt his passwords.
Vermyndax··on Google engineers want to make ad-blocking (near) impossible
found the google mole in this thread
Vermyndax··on Vscode.dev: Local Development with Cloud Tools
Yes, it works on the iPad well enough. Safari doesn't support the local files feature (due to security) but it works, as others have said, in a pinch.

If you save it as a shortcut to your Home Screen, it almost comes across as a native app.

Vermyndax··on Welcome Lemmy.world
So, single server scaled vertically? Gross.
Vermyndax··on Ask HN: Why Discord instead of a public forum?
I have been wondering why Usenet and IRC haven't experienced a resurgence. Discord will be the next casualty of corporate greed. It's really a fallacy that these communities are moving to yet another corporate-controlled entity.
Vermyndax··on Incident with Issues and Pull Requests
They are far overdue for issuing a statement.
