Normally I would agree with you, but you have to consider that he’s up against people who are also extremely rich. The legal system might actually need to maintain legitimacy through the proceedings and not just crumple under Elon’s never-ending tantrum.
The advantage is obvious. People who know and/or enjoy Python can get into web dev without having to fuss with a new language. It’s really that simple.
This was legitimately the most humanizing piece of media I’ve seen from Zuckerberg. It helps that I find VR fascinating, and seeing him engage with it beyond a superficial corporate level like I’d expect was refreshing.
The point is that the role wasn’t tantalizing enough to justify taking off a day from my existing job and going through Amazon’s interview gauntlet. The other job I was interviewing for had a much more reasonable interview structure, no whiteboard bullshit, no live coding, no 4 hour sessions. I think it says a lot about the company and how they value prospective employees’ time.
I can’t be the only one who had this experience. I recently had the choice between pursuing a cool startup position and an AWS position. Once I was emailed all of the AWS interview material and the 4 hour itinerary… I just had to ask myself if it was even worth putting my time into it. The total comp would probably be better than the startup position, but everything else (work life balance, risk of being fired, opportunity for growth, etc) seemed (probably) worse from what I’ve heard. Suffice to say, I dropped out of the interview process and took the cool startup job instead.
There is a very strong anti-vax contingent on this website. It’s unfortunate given that you’d think appreciation for science and healthy, well reasoned skepticism would come naturally for technical professionals. Guess not.
Funny you say this. I’ve been playing a bunch of D2:R lately and it is honestly pretty miserable. It is full stop gambling. Grinding out mephisto runs over and over again, hoping for that nice drop, getting a minor rush of excitement when an unidentified ring drops or whatever. Just totally mindless nonsense.
Ah yes the hardship of fine dining, luxury vehicles, and McMansion mortgages.
More seriously, I take issue with the definition of “paycheck-to-paycheck”, they at least thankfully split the groups into those who struggle to pay their bills (a small minority) and those that don’t. I don’t know how you can claim to live check to check (“on the knife’s edge”) while also claiming to easily pay your bills every month. Just because you’re able to allocate all of your money doesn’t mean you’re living check to check.
Yeah there are a few missing details I’d like filled in before I take any sides here. What kinds of electronics was the OP trying to sell? What did they say to the customer service agents to prompt them to immediately hang up on them?
You can also look north to Canada where the American notion of “free speech” does not apply. There are reasonable limits on hate speech, obscenity, defamation and the like.
I’m in the same boat. I’ve eaten a lot of junk in my life (standard North American trash diet), and have never had a cavity or any serious dental issue in my life. I also get a cleaning every 6 months at the dentist. I’d be shocked if the likelihood of developing a cavity didn’t have a large genetic component.
This is an absolutely absurd thing to say and is about half a degree away from reductio ad Hitlerum. We’re talking about misleading advertisements here, try to stay grounded when you think about these things.
So you want a more authoritarian government to clamp down on what businesses can and cannot do? Seems contrary to the freedom everyone on this website seems to be enamoured with. I’d expect private enterprises (emphasis on the word private) to be able to do just about whatever they want with their businesses in a “free” system.
This is such a bizarre take. Have you gone through the peer review process for a scientific paper? I have, and fairly reliably I’ve had experts in the field review the content and provide strong, thoughtful feedback. Maybe your particular subject field is more prone to politicking than mine? It’s hard for me to think of peer review as anything other than absolutely essential.
The main demographic of this website are very evidently not scientists or even scientifically minded. So yeah, we get junk like this rather than substantive scientific discussion.
