Vaslo··on CRISPR tech selectively shreds cancer cells, including "undruggable" cancers
You're wrong, because if your karma fall below a certain number, your comments wont show up anymore. I can show you if you like.

People shouldn't be blocked from commenting because their karma goes negative. Spamming, hateful talk, etc should be a completely different system. Just because what you say is unpopular (in one place mind you) doesn't mean your words should be hidden.

Vaslo··on The Case for Free Online Books (2014)
“Everything except what I do should be free to me.”

Remember that you can make your own textbook (and accompanying materials) using your own money and time whenever you want!

Vaslo··on The IRS Moved IT and HR Staff to Process Taxes. It's Not Going Well
Good - the less government, the better
Vaslo··on Building from zero after addiction, prison, and a felony
As a libertarian right leaning guy I opened your story with pessimism but I really enjoyed it and greatly appreciated the personal responsibility you took in your situation. People should be inspired by this - it’s precisely because of personal responsibility that you are so successful.
Vaslo··on Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for distributing journal reprints
Yeah, it’s well known that oppressive regimes have 10s of millions of supporters.

Or maybe your ideas are just bad, and maybe the other side thinks your ideas are weak and doesn’t want any part of them.

How would you “fix it” without voting? And if it involves “force” why do you ever think we’d let you do that?

Vaslo··on Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for distributing journal reprints
Many of us don’t care.
Vaslo··on Scientists ejected from diabetes conference for distributing journal reprints
You’re pretending like the vast majority of people are being oppressed by some military government but easily forget that tens of millions of us support the president and aren’t intimidated whatsoever by anything people like you could do.
Vaslo··on Ntsc-rs – open-source video emulation of analog TV and VHS artifacts
Very cool but the number of settings is overwhelming, not even sure what to do.
Vaslo··on An Ohio Valley 100k-watt FM signal is severed in broad daylight
The trash thief will never be able to replace that. I guess insurance will help but that’s just another excuse for them to raise rates.

That thief should be indentured until he pays it back in full.

Vaslo··on Programmers will document for Claude, but not for each other
Because the manual usually sucks
Vaslo··on Michael Burry Just Called Nvidia's SpaceX Chip Deal 'Fugazi.'
You have to admit though, there is a big segment of the population that sees Burry's predictions, thinks of the Big Short, and then panics. There's been a lot of pessimistic news, but we've seen so many of these tech stocks win in the long term.
Vaslo··on How to make a website in 5 minutes: Almost No code version
I tried to click on the link and it's just spinning with a 404

Vaslo··on The California state assembly has passed the 'Protect Our Games Act'
There are always ways around it. Especially laws around business.
Vaslo··on The California state assembly has passed the 'Protect Our Games Act'
Your example about New York and Florida is a terrible one because it’s true statement. Why would you use that example? Are you saying it’s not true (demonstrably true with residential data)? Or are you saying it’s happening but not to the extent that the fear-mongerers express it?
Vaslo··on Protestware for coding agents
Conflict is fine and should be tolerated. Breaking someone’s car because you’re part of some environmental doomsday cult or publicly identifying an abortion recipient is not.

I was in a fraternity and some city kids came down our street and busted into a few cars. A few of our brothers were up, woke the house and chased one of the kids down. He ended up in the hospital. People arent going to just call the police. You’re thinking you are nelson Mandela in jail and it’s not going to end up that way.

Vaslo··on Protestware for coding agents
“Consider a world where you’d be mocked and shamed publicly for having an abortion. People would have them less and there would be less dead fetuses in the world due to those willing to sacrifice themselves by spending time in a jail cell for their acts of shaming.”

Just wanted to make sure you knew how that sounded, since either political side could try to justify their bad behavior.

Vaslo··on The real cost of owning a home
What about the relationship thing? Most significant others don't want to live with their in-laws and fear failure to launch. Clearly not the case of a failure with your great income. That said, this isn't as much a buy a house point as it is a get your own place point, which could be either rent or buy.
Vaslo··on That Methyl Methacrylate Tank
Opened a small round bottom flask of this when I worked in the lab. Closed it immediately when I felt burning in my eyes as did others around me.

It’s toxic but not insanely toxic. Isocyanates, phosgene, gaseous cyanides - now those are insanely toxic

Vaslo··on The real cost of owning a home
Came here to say this but you beat me to it- sorry to the author but home ownership gives you a real tangible piece of equity for the rest of your life if you maintain it reasonably well. This is especially true for people who aren’t good with saving money.
Vaslo··on Uber, Lyft drivers in Massachusetts form first US ride-share union
Not sure I agree. They have plenty of cash and can wait it out. The drivers don't.

I personally don't care about this as long as the costs aren't passed on to me.

Vaslo··on Magnifica Humanitas
But all Christians aren’t Catholic which is my point.
Vaslo··on Magnifica Humanitas
You mean Catholic believers, not Christian
Vaslo··on Omarchy Is Not A Distro
Just skim the rest of the blog posts…
Vaslo··on Omarchy Is Not A Distro
So to be clear - distros used by experienced Linux users are better than distros preferred by non-experienced?

You can easily change most things you don’t like in Omarchy.

Vaslo··on Omarchy Is Not A Distro
Pretty clear by the other opinions this author has on his “blog” that he dislikes DHH for more than just the Omarchy distribution.

Here’s a fact - Omarchy opened up Arch to a whole crowd of people that would have never tried Arch given its notorious difficulty to the uninitiated.

Vaslo··on 1024000^2 Blocks, 2B2T Minecraft Server World Download Project, and Discoveries
Glad I am not the only one who found that title and the subsequent readme completely unhelpful, despite standing up and maintaining a VPS server for my son and friends.

HN is great but sometimes has the ultimate “tell them about the features instead of the reason why you should care/benefits” posts and many people probably miss out on good links as a result.

Vaslo··on Poland is now among the 20 largest economies
Ok, in the US we call this stealing. My bad.
