VCFundedGenYer··on KDE turns 30 and someone's brought an AI-native desktop proposal
Pretty sure KDE said no AI period. This won’t stand.
VCFundedGenYer··on Can you tell which images are AI-generated?
Impossible to do on a phone. Zooming in is misinterpreted as a choice. Fix the game.

Also the time limit is stupid and pointless.

VCFundedGenYer··on How Hacker News ranking works: scoring, controversy, and penalties (2013)
Again, not a thing if you are on the site I mentioned.
VCFundedGenYer··on How Hacker News ranking works: scoring, controversy, and penalties (2013)
This falls apart completely if you’re like me and only see the list presented on brutalist.report which is strictly chronological and with zero algorithms.
VCFundedGenYer··on I captured 72 hours of idle Android packets behind pfSense
Seems like you used AI to steal the results from the same experiment done a decade ago to be honest. Heard this story in a YouTube video long ago.
VCFundedGenYer··on I captured 72 hours of idle Android packets behind pfSense
This isn’t new. The disgraced Lunduke did this same test nearly a decade ago and observed the same results. Android is malware disguised as a consumer operating system.
VCFundedGenYer··on AI Safety Is Mostly a Sex Cult
It's a dupe and was a story last week.
VCFundedGenYer··on Show HN: LiveWorld – Every 24/7 YouTube live camera on one globe
I know for a fact we have at least 30-50 live weather cameras in my area (Windy.com shows em) and this site shows absolutely none of them.

Gotta work on your discovery more.

VCFundedGenYer··on Dear Customer, Fuck You
It wasn't written by a person, so it's invalid.
VCFundedGenYer··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
There aren't small problems in these posters though. They're huge, obvious, and an indicator that the one who made the flyer didn't care whatsoever.

When it includes an American Flag with more than 50 stars + the bottom row is cut off, you know they didn't even bother to proofread it.

This is the kind of garbage we're suffering with.

VCFundedGenYer··on How come AI-related posts get so many points on HN?
A lot of people here are AI brained, unfortunately.
VCFundedGenYer··on Gemini hacked three companies in first known breakout by Google's AI
This is embarrassing. These companies need to stop these obviously coordinated stunts.
VCFundedGenYer··on Y Combinator's PAC is throwing money at Republicans across the country
Supporting fascists by 50% is pretty damn alarming to me.
VCFundedGenYer··on US Military had close call after using AI for hallucinated intelligence report
Did you ask ChatGPT to explain that and then copypaste the output?
VCFundedGenYer··on There's no point at which turning your brain off will work
Turning off your brain with LLMs is how you get fired.

Even with small things, you need to be at the wheel. The other day I had to stop copilot from literally deleting the file I was working on. Why did it choose to go down that route? I don't know, but I nixed and reported the chat once it did that.

LLMs are dangerous and if for some reason you are stuck with using them, do NOT ever turn your brain off.

Ideally, you should not be using LLMs at all.

VCFundedGenYer··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Android has been so thoroughly disappointing through the years. Started as a great open free form alternative to iOS, to becoming the very thing it sought to combat.
VCFundedGenYer··on AI Protest in Montreal
It's not a culture war. It comes down to whether you care about the environment or not.

LLMs are destroying the planet.

VCFundedGenYer··on Economic policy for AGI
AGI does not exist and never will. This might as well be fantasy.
VCFundedGenYer··on How to Write with an LLM
This article should just be one word:

Don't.

VCFundedGenYer··on I don't like passkeys
If the concept isn't easily understood nor well implemented by the majority of platforms, it's not a good concept.
VCFundedGenYer··on I don't like passkeys
This is generally the same experience I've had.

Microsoft is especially poorly prepared for this - Often if you have a passkey, it will CONTINUE To ask you to create a passkey (a new and different one), and it may save it in a different place, which is infuriating.

Strong password + MFA is the way, and I don't see that changing.

VCFundedGenYer··on Computer Reset, Dallas
LGR did a great series of videos about this when he went.
VCFundedGenYer··on Stallman: Thousands Dead, Millions Deprived of Liberties (2001)
Stallman is very problematic, a terrible person, and is the wrong one to deliver this message.

It may be a correct message, but him delivering it makes it DOA.

VCFundedGenYer··on I hate you Microsoft
The author has many, many free alternatives.

LibreOffice. OnlyOffice. Collabora Office. Keynote.

While it is scummy that MS did this, the author needs to grow a pair and look up the millions of ways to open a .pptx.

VCFundedGenYer··on The Painful Truth: The RAM Crisis Is Only Just the Beginning
No.

You are projecting things will happen when there is no guarantee.

The DRAM issue has halted the industry.

AI companies need to back down. That is the only objective solution.

VCFundedGenYer··on Show HN: Share your AI Setup, Learn from others
If a site like reddit gates off its content, you expand all comments, CTRL A, CTRL C, and paste into a text file that you feed into the bot.

I do this for a lot of things actually. If the bot can't see/read something, take the content and dump it to a file, then have the bot read that.

Gets around a lot of red tape of asking for approval for "integrations" or when companies are snippy.

VCFundedGenYer··on Our framework for reporting model misalignment
Explain, precisely, how he is wrong? Everything he's spoken about has come true so far. Are you made that he's good at prediction?
VCFundedGenYer··on How, Exactly, Could A.I. Kill Us?
I'm worried about the slow burn.

Current students are all cheating using ChatGPT. The numbers are staggering. Nobody is learning anything.

In about a decade or so we will have a shortage of critical roles like doctors, pilots, etc. due to all the cheating, shortcuts, lack of knowledge, skills atrophy, cognitive surrender, etc.

It will result in accidents.

VCFundedGenYer··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
The neurodivergent community thoroughly and resoundingly rejects AI and for damn good reason.
VCFundedGenYer··on This Code Is CRAP (2011)
No, we were writing them in 2011.
