VB6_Foreverr··on Why do Russians smile so little (and Americans so much?)
Ok so my first comment could be downvoted because people think I'm not funny. My subsequent comment was just to clarify that the first comment was not anything personal against anyone. So why was that downvoted? An explanation from the downvoter would be nice

It's a line from a song for God's sake

You don't have double entendres in Russian then?
VB6_Foreverr··on Why do Russians smile so little (and Americans so much?)
Of course it's possible she misunderstood you...
VB6_Foreverr··on What life lessons are unintuitive or go against common sense or wisdom?
That there was a market for expired lightbulbs in the Soviet Union because working ones were hard to source. People would bring the expired ones to work and swap them for working ones.

There's a life lesson there somewhere.

I'm not calling you a liar but what you say runs counter to the advice of The Eagles who sang :

Just put that monster smile on them rosy cheeks 'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks

My guesses :

1: America is a nation of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants. People who emigrate from their home country tend to be more likely to be of an optimistic nature (or manic depessive.) 2: Russia's unfortunate history must make for a traumatised psyche in the population as a whole. By contrast America's has been one success after another.

Before the world wide web's significance became apparent that's how it looked with Microsoft and Windows.

IBM -> MS -> Google -> Facebook -> ?

VB6_Foreverr··on I Told You RIM Was in Trouble
IBM? Isn't that the company who gifted the entire 'Personal' computer market to Microsoft and Intel?

More downvoted than upvoted that's all, i voted you up. It is oppressive that if enough people don't like what you have to say they can remove your ability to post. Post mainly stuff that people like and you'll be able to weather some unpopularity without risking being shut up.
VB6_Foreverr··on So you want to do the SICP...
It's remains just an aspiration of mine to do what you have done.

Something I have actually done is to faithfully work my way through this book http://www1.idc.ac.il/tecs/

There are a lot of special moments in there too.

"ease up on the consumer focus" sounds like a recipe for failure to me.

I'd be backing whatever the kids are adopting and round here all the teens are getting blackberrys. Plus "We're the Blackberry Boys" seems to be on every commercial break.

This is where vb6 shines. With vb6 you don't have to worry about anything! :)
VB6_Foreverr··on Screw the environment. Print this email immediately. And then burn it.
That's not how they got rid of telegraphs. Something(s) tangibly better came along and telegraphs faded away. Paper will die when people stop using it not when someone tells them to.

Sorry for going off tangent but why would you worry about wordpress?
