Uchikoma··on We Already Know What Kind of Newspaper Owner Jeff Bezos Will Be
Ad-hominem attacks only take you so far.
Uchikoma··on Founder of Tor Freedom Hosting arrested in Ireland, awaiting extradition to USA
I've seen them, they are not separate.
Uchikoma··on BMW's New Electric Car Is Just Like a Tesla, Only Much, Much Worse
Not that I want to endorse BMWs car, but the author creates the argument that BMW intends this as a Tesla S rival, then knocks it down. Not sure BMW considers this a Tesla S rival, especially with a $40k vs. $70k (nearly twice the price) price tag. So the story is more about the journalists view on the world than anything else.
Uchikoma··on Show HN: Easy-to-configure Web Server in Go
I always wonder with this kind of posts, is it minimalistic or is it an alternative?
Uchikoma··on NSA - The Price of Hypocrisy
"It’s probably not a coincidence that LiveJournal, Russia’s favorite platform, suddenly had maintenance issues – and was thus unavailable for general use – at the very same time that a Russian court announced its verdict to the popular blogger-activist Alexei Navalny."

This was news to me.

Uchikoma··on Forgotten Employee (2002)
He was a sales guy :-)
Uchikoma··on Forgotten Employee (2002)
This happened to a colleague of mine, he was the sales director of the company (ISP in the mid 90s) we worked for, and after 3 take overs in a row - and 3 times changing of mouse pads, business cards and email addresses in a short time - he had no responsibilities left, had no boss but was on the payroll. He quit after some months of being bored.
Uchikoma··on Secret government: America against democracy
No one talked about unconstitutional. You raised the argument and then shot it down.
Uchikoma··on San Francisco to L.A. in 30 Mins. With Proposed New Transportation System
"possibly cross-galactic"

Hyperbole? Or do you know something about the physics of cross-galactic travel that the rest of us don't?

Uchikoma··on Secret government: America against democracy
"not adhering to Article III doesn't automatically make the FISC unconstitutional." nice try with a straw man attack.
Uchikoma··on Dropbox will kill your insane MacBook Air 2013 battery
D*mn ;-)
Uchikoma··on Archy
Exactly.
Uchikoma··on Archy

Uchikoma··on Bolivia to file UN complaint over airspace blockade
"definitely contributed to economic growth in Europe."

Yes it has, estimated to be 0.5pp in the GDP of the countries affected in 1948-1951.

Uchikoma··on Bolivia to file UN complaint over airspace blockade
I've skipped it because it was redundant to the point I think, "The European nations had all but exhausted their foreign exchange reserves during the war" means they had no money to buy from US companies, so the US gave Europeans money so they could buy from the US which I said with "to create a market for US companies that"

I might have misunderstood your "America poured in money during the Marshall plan to build up Europe;".

I took it as the purpose was to build up Europe for Europeans, where my reply was to build up Europe to create a market for US companies.

Uchikoma··on Nginx just became the most used web server among the top 1000 websites
Several sites I have insight into, use nginx in front of Tomcat, Jetty, Netty, so I agree this might be the main purpose of nginx, and it excels there.
Uchikoma··on Bolivia to file UN complaint over airspace blockade
America poured in money during the Marshall plan to create a market for US companies that needed new markets after they produced a lot of stuff for the army during the war.

"The Marshall Plan aid was mostly used for the purchase of goods from the United States. (...) In the latter years, under pressure from the United States Congress and with the outbreak of the Korean War, an increasing amount of the aid was spent on rebuilding the militaries of Western Europe. Of the some $13 billion allotted by mid-1951, $3.4 billion had been spent on imports of raw materials and semi-manufactured products; $3.2 billion on food, feed, and fertilizer; $1.9 billion on machines, vehicles, and equipment; and $1.6 billion on fuel"

Uchikoma··on Bolivia to file UN complaint over airspace blockade
According to German media, France and Spain deny that they blocked the airspace.
Uchikoma··on Dropbox will kill your insane MacBook Air 2013 battery
I guess you might not be as good with words in Schwizerdütsch as he is in English.
Uchikoma··on Girl buys water, spends night in jail
Sorry for my typo, I've meant to write tens of thousands of police officers. Would have been funny if Germany has only ten thousands with a population of 80M people.

In 2010 there were 243k police officers in Germany. Could not find 2012 numbers.

Uchikoma··on Girl buys water, spends night in jail
I don't think this necessarily has to do with weapons. There are ten thousands of armed German police officers who (number went through the press) shot 85 bullets in 2011 and usually do not draw a weapon immediately.
Uchikoma··on Girl buys water, spends night in jail
Wow, funny country.
Uchikoma··on Statement from Edward Snowden in Moscow
I'm not sure you know how Wikileaks works "I'd really like to see Wikileaks devoting more of its time, energy, and fund-raising into breaking news about government-operated surveillance programs in the last two countries where Edward Snowden has been located, namely China and Russia."

From my understanding people submit content to Wikileaks which then decides what and when to publish. But I guess this depends on if you believe Assange pushed Mannings to release documents.

Uchikoma··on Germans Loved Obama. Now We Don’t Trust Him
I think a lot of people back then - like me as a teenager in the 80s - thought Reagan to be pure evil. Today the view on Reagan is more differentiated, his later view on nuclear war, the reunification, what he wanted to achieve vs. the cold war hardliner and Thatcherism capitalist, Bitburg, Pershing II, SDI.
Uchikoma··on Germans Loved Obama. Now We Don’t Trust Him
From talking to friends, most stopped "loving"* Obama years ago shortly after there was no visible difference to Bush in foreign policy, human rights, wars, etc.

* (the only President Germans loved is probably Kennedy, the most misunderstood Reagan)

Uchikoma··on Germany says Cold War tactics don't help EU-US trade talks
Not here in Berlin please, I don't want Reaper strikes here. Thanks.
Uchikoma··on Horses for courses: choosing Scala or Clojure
Sorry to not be able to formulate my concerns in a way you can understand them.
Uchikoma··on Horses for courses: choosing Scala or Clojure
1. Java. 2. The problem of binary compatibility is two folded: a. What Scala considers major versions (usually minor changes) b. An open source library community that jumps to beta Scala releases for minor updates These two together create a nightmare to upgrade libraries or Scala versions
Uchikoma··on Horses for courses: choosing Scala or Clojure
He might be understanding programming, but from an academic background not from managing large business development projects with issues like compilers, tool chains, on-boarding of new team members, turn over, business pressure to cut corners etc. Scala has very different priorities. The top priority of Scala is "power", language features and the holy grail of marrying FP and OO. The priority of Clojure is solve problems.

Case in point: The lacking Scala API with a high percentage of method calls not described, not explained and rarely any descriptions of classes. Second case in point: In 2013 Scala is still abysmal slow (several seconds for some classes) when compiling (with SBT compile/JRebel reload or with Play compile/reload).

PS: Side note: Not to sound arrogant, but for the perception and spread of the language it is not important what Martin thinks, but in customer development style what my perception as the CTO of a company thinks that might decide between Scala and Clojure.
