Edit: Obviously, the canal is now larger. So Panamax in this case refers to ships that maxed out the old maximum size.

It is a silly restriction!
edit: mootothemax's suggestion is even better, I didn't realize the tab can go in the background after being split out.
Heck, I've done it, since it's probably not the best to create a digital repository of all my opinions!
javascript:window.open('https://web.archive.org/web/' + document.getElementsByClassName('athing')[0].getElementsByTagName('a')[1].href);
It's austere, as well as an anti-pattern when used exclusively. Despite this, it just plain gets the job done. It has also proven quite sturdy/reliable, even on popular sites like this one.
Any plans to share your experience creating the app or to show off the code itself?
Anything worth working on for 6 months is likely interesting to learn more about. Plus, it's always nice to find out how others tackle ambitious personal projects.
Some quick feedback: changing pages (eg: navigating from 'new' to 'inspiration', 'sources', etc...) while in night mode switches the user back to day mode, which can be quite jarring.
Wow, I thought 80% was an overstatement. You are very much correct with regards to the "big" banks.
See: "big banks – that is, banks with $10 billion or more in assets – approved of 21.3 percent of small business loan applications in January 2015, up from 21.1 percent the month prior" [0]

I doubt the poisonous nature of lead was well known when these cities were built.
The cost of negative interest is likely less regressive than than the existing system of inflation.
It will be interesting to see how this untested financial environment will settle to equilibrium, and what our world will look like as a consequence (like you mention, more VAT? Or fewer taxes as borrowing grows cheaper?).
You need at least some liquid capital, and those with the least money will always be 100% liquid (or very close to it), and are hence the worst off under negative interest.
This is an incredibly troubling aspect of the push toward a cashless economy. Not only does it marginalize the unbanked (those who can't bank due to illegal immigrant status, or other mitigating circumstances), but it's also an incredibly powerful tool for population control.
It removes the agency a modest savings give us, by concentrating all wealth under the control of a select few anointed conglomerates. It also allows onerous policies like negative interest to be a new, truly inescapable regressive tax regime.
Edit: notahacker makes a compelling point that negative interest is likely less regressive than inflation. I thought it was something worth bringing to the root of the thread.
(After some messing around, it only appears at multiples of 75% zoom for me. I am using chrome 'Version 48.0.2564.97 m' on Windows with a 1080p screen.)
I created this tool after getting frustrated with the excel sheet I was using to track and re-balance my retirement investments (something Mint, Personal Capital, and others don't handle that well). Since it's re-balancing season for many people, I felt it would be worthwhile to share my work.
Any feedback is very appreciated, thanks!
Cool features:
* The site is entirely client-side, so you can download the source from github and run it as just files if you'd like
* The save button generates a URL containing any data entered, so you can restore your work by simply loading from a bookmark
Also, feel free to extend the existing calculator with an additional asset class and account type (for business/property). The code is fairly easy to extend with new account and asset vectors.
I tried to stray away from physical property in the calculator's design and stay focused on the bogleheads investing philosophy of using buy-and-hold index funds. The tool's use cases are a bit cookie-cutter as a consequence, unfortunately.
It took me forever to find a fairly athletic fit (slim but not skin tight) in my height (6'2" with a long torso) that also doesn't have logos or random graphics (solid colors and maybe a pocket is all I want).
If you have a favorite choice it'd be great to know it and have more options.
*Full disclosure: I worked at an Eddie Bauer in college.

(It appears @comex gave a pretty convincing argument for why it is at this level in the thread, and I know I read the name wrong at first!)
quick edit: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/rapere isn't looking too good, either.
Combined sewer overflow [1] is essentially business as usual in many municipalities. I happened to learn about the Detroit sewer system, but even King Co in the PNW has this issue [2]. I like to think areas like that would think ahead about this, given the high annual rainfall, but separate systems are quite the expense.

Doesn't the "look" at ~2:04 in the video sound inserted, perhaps to make Kalanick sound abrasive? I may just be over analyzing it, after having watched a short documentary on shaping opinions with small manipulations of video interviews awhile back.
(I sincerely apologize that I can't find a link).
I digress. The fact is Uber has been playing fast and loose, and push is starting to come to shove with regulation. Whether Uber or regulators cave is now the question.
Otherwise an accurate and brief summary. The article is relatively short and worth the read, though.
WRT NY's density falling, it could be an outlier or the norm. Still, from what I understand overall population densities are increaing in the US. [1]
