Lots of high paid roles are like that in reality
UK-AL··on Ask HN: How can a web Senior SWE move into a good game-dev or game-related job?
The game industry inherently unsafe. Studios go in and out of existence constantly.
UK-AL··on Reinventing how .NET builds and ships (again)
Most .net projects are web API, and backend applications.
UK-AL··on Steam Machine
The problem is that many games and software still only work on windows.

You'll find a lot open source leaders, and CEOs of companies like framework are not progressive, they are libertarian. Which people mistake as progressive because it's often very socially liberal.

Trying to pressure them won't do do anything, because goes against libertarian values to force collective values on individuals.

UK-AL··on Bluetui – A TUI for managing Bluetooth on Linux
Isn't that literally every distro? They're just curated pre installed packages.
UK-AL··on Zoxide: A Better CD Command
Zoxide normally aliases to z. Is this not z?

Because this is what companies want, and they pay us. So that's what we do.
UK-AL··on Show HN: Omarchy on CachyOS
Can't be multiuser
UK-AL··on Omarchy Is Out
Nix is hard to get into. The lang is weird, and I'm a functional programmer. It's not very well documented. Flakes just don't seem to be documented at all? But are used everywhere?
UK-AL··on Omarchy Is Out
I like DHH because I like his taste. However there are lots of people like him.

However he seems to have the ability to build movements, and I don't know why.

UK-AL··on Mob Programming (2018)
Can be fun sometimes. Especially if you rowdy team and debates start happening.
UK-AL··on Leaving Gmail for Mailbox.org
I've set the bridge as background Daemon so I barely know it's there.
UK-AL··on Why we still build with Ruby
It was clunky because it actually enforced rules.
UK-AL··on Why we still build with Ruby
The money is in working for a FAANG. So that's what Devs trains for.

There's not much money in working for a small saas unless you're the founder.

UK-AL··on Good system design
It's not just FAANG that do these interviews anymore.

Tiny startups do them now as well.

UK-AL··on Good system design
These are the places that actually pay well.
UK-AL··on We'll need a universal basic income (UBI) in an AI-driven world
Most work doesn't provide that anyway for the majority of people.
UK-AL··on GitHub is no longer independent at Microsoft after CEO resignation
People test in production in all the time via Canary releases.
UK-AL··on Writing a Rust GPU kernel driver: a brief introduction on how GPU drivers work
Because rewriting the kernel from scratch would literally cost billions. That's why. Literally criticising them for not achieving an impossible goal.
UK-AL··on Writing a Rust GPU kernel driver: a brief introduction on how GPU drivers work
Rust is important here because it's one of the first(if not the first) to use the rust infrastructure for a GPU.
UK-AL··on I gave the AI arms and legs then it rejected me
Being able to get hired at a company is often unrelated to being able to generate viable products.

If you want to get hired don't focus on skills to build useful things. Focus on psychology and charisma.

UK-AL··on I gave the AI arms and legs then it rejected me
Founders of a lot of companies also tend to be dicks. But seems to do alright. Seems to be a double standard there
UK-AL··on At Least 13 People Died by Suicide Amid U.K. Post Office Scandal, Report Says
In the UK they are I think? Well if they want to be BCS accredited.
UK-AL··on High levels of antihistamine drugs can reduce fitness gains
Ma gains

I have awful hay fever, so take them religiously.

UK-AL··on Ask HN: Seeking ways to improve my planning skills and follow-through
That's because long term goals like that are probabilistic rather than deterministic.

You can follow the steps and still fail.

Where as washing the dishes pretty much has a guaranteed outcome.

You probably don't like taking the risk, or losing your investment of time and effort. So your brain doesn't like it.

UK-AL··on If you are useful, it doesn't mean you are valued
I'm pretty sure people living off capital don't have that problem. It just won't be you.
UK-AL··on If you are useful, it doesn't mean you are valued
This is explicit strategy companies use. To be expected
