U2EF1··on Someone keeps stealing, flying, fixing and returning this man's 1958 Cessna
They could steal a smaller cannon first and use that on any chains or locks.
U2EF1··on Solving SAT via Positive Supercompilation
Join the rest of us in post-1950's complexity theory. We can use register machines now. Or you can bust out the big bucks and buy a RASP.
U2EF1··on What's wrong with enterprise Linux
LE by default successfully ran 2 months prior. 2 months and 5 years are two completely different worlds in terms of bit rot. That and there are many generic tutorials and scripts and knowledgeable devs for configuring LE fresh.
U2EF1··on Age of universe at 26.7B years, nearly twice as old as previously believed
It's all just theories. But yes the article is basically summarizing a new paper/model. Most likely: the model is incorrect in some ways. But maybe useful in others.
U2EF1··on A student’s desire to get out of a exam led to a compression algorithm
I mean yeah that's basically what high compression solutions like paq have done, depending on the compression level desired apply increasingly speculative and computationally intensive models to the block and pick whichever one worked the best.
U2EF1··on Two men got jobs at Amazon just to steal copies of Zelda
But what if they stole it for their 7 year old cancer ridden son, who only wants to be happy once before he dies.
U2EF1··on I need to copy 2000+ DVDs in 3 days. What are my options?

U2EF1··on How to Migrate 50M Records from Mongo to PostgreSQL in Less Than a Day
So he really means they were "waiting for IO" bound.
U2EF1··on Quality Software Costs Money – Heartbleed Was Free
C has some of the best static analysis and debugging tools of any language, but all of that's worthless if you don't use them. Doubly so if you specifically handicap those tools and write your own obfuscated allocation scheme. Heartbleed was less an indictment against C and more an indictment against shitty code.
U2EF1··on The Web Never Forgets: Persistent Tracking Mechanisms In The Wild
You could run something like TAILS in a VM or docker, I guess.
U2EF1··on TrueCrypt Volumes are Indistinguishable from Random Data
Worse, overwriting SSD's with random data would halve their lifespan, and some SSD's don't even allow you to control where exactly you are writing to. Better to just never write unencrypted data to the drive at all.
U2EF1··on Go 1.3+ Compiler Overhaul
In C, then translate that to Go of course ;)
U2EF1··on Two Harvard University Alumni Win Salesforce $1M Hackathon Prize
The only real surprise is that Salesforce wasn't better able to obscure it. Still, they weren't giving out a million dollars for a days work.
U2EF1··on Mathematica on Raspberry Pi for free
wat
U2EF1··on Python 2 vs. Python 3: A retrospective
empty dict: {:} empty set: {}

Ah, the road not taken.

U2EF1··on Why Python uses 0-based indexing. It's because of slices
> My compromise of .5 was rejected without, I thought, proper consideration.
U2EF1··on Ask HN: I have $1200 to spend on gadgets, what should I buy?
VTSMX
U2EF1··on The Bay Bridge is gradually disappearing from Google Maps
It's not a bug. This is how you display that there's no road there right now (unless you are working on construction). Likely this is a pretty good representation of the information available for pathfinding as well.
U2EF1··on NASA Data Reveals Mega-Canyon under Greenland Ice Sheet
Just think, within our lifetimes we'll be able to explore this canyon by foot.
U2EF1··on PEP 450: Adding A Statistics Module To The Standard Library
Browser equivalence is another thing entirely. Most browsers will accept http://www。google。com (because in Japanese '。' is '.'). But if you tried to request that actual resource it doesn't lead anywhere.

But yeah HN should just use browser equivalence.

U2EF1··on We still don't really know how bicycles work
Even better, you can demonstrate the effect pretty easily. Jog alongside a bike and let it go. If it's fast enough, it will stay upright. You can even try to kick it over and the front wheel will turn towards the direction the bike is falling, "catching" the bike and converting the fall into a turn.
U2EF1··on Quantopian wants to Turn Stock Trading Algorithmic
I guess his understanding is that trading algorithmically means trading a lot (it doesn't); at low volumes transaction costs dominate.
U2EF1··on GitHub Got Silly Rich. Next Step: 'Make More Awesome'
Not quite, but on track!
