Tyr42··on EFF to Courts: Don't Rewrite Copyright over AI Hype
Copyleft is built on copyright, do you think removing copyright protections is going to get people to release their source code?? I don't think so. Not unless you want to try and legislate some general copyleft law, but that's probably a nonstarter.

Your lists formatting got eaten by HN.

Behind the meter power generation is being included on site with the data centers.
Tyr42··on Why some US restaurants are banning tips
And you are tipping before you even see the service in that case, as you pay before the food.

Of course, the staff also see how you tio before they prep your food...

Tyr42··on Firefox is now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin
Then don't visit? Or realize how bad they are with ads and bounce? They probably track bounce rate as ads load.
Tyr42··on The Maxwell Conjecture Is False (GPT 5.6 Sol)
You can prove something is in NP by providing a (polynomial) reduction from a known NP hard task, and vice versa. All the known NP problems (Knapsack, SAT, etc) are mutually reducable in this way, so solving one lets you solve the others. So if X was shown to be NP, then given a polynomial time solution to X, you can stack the polynomial time reduction from X to SAT to solve SAT in polynomial time too.
Tyr42··on Half-Baked Product
That's handwashing right?

Man, I always wonder what would have happened if Bill Watterson had been around for the era of webcomics. Much more creative freedom, and no editor or syndicate to tell you how to layout your panels. Would he have loved it?

Or would he have hated it? He certainly wouldn't have wanted to build a website for it.

Tyr42··on Every Frame Perfect
Ty but the animations don't seem to animate on mobile chrome on Android.

Tyr42··on Claude Code – Everything You Can Configure That the Docs Don't Tell You
Can I do

  echo blah blah >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
And that'd be auto approved?
Tyr42··on What Apple and Google are doing to push notifications
> None of this bites evenly. The editing falls hardest on broadcast and promotional push; the notifications people actually want tend to pass through untouched or amplified.

Sounds fine with me?

Tyr42··on “Kitten Space Agency”, a Spiritual Successor to “Kerbal Space Program” (2025)
What's the best way to play on Linux? I'm sure proton would work but it's not on steam...

My instructor for Epsilon Delta proofs and limits would always talk about "his cousin in Romania" picking the Epsilon and him picking the Delta.

i.e. forall epsilon > 0. exists delta > 0. forall d with |d| < delta. |f(x) - f(x+d)| < epsilon.

If we had a proof, no matter what epsilon his cousin from Romania picked, we could always find a new delta which would satify his cousin and let him pick the worst d in range.

This worked better than just saying "pick any epsilon", as it convayed the adversarial approach better.

Another book I read used the Devil as the one you are trying to convince, but it's nowhere near as fun as "his cousin from Romania".

Tyr42··on Aspartame is not that bad? (2022)
Health outcomes of lottery winners suggest it's not great.
Tyr42··on Filing the corners off my MacBooks
I second this proposal. Three weeks shift can feel about right.

But we lost a lot of nice symmetries that way, which is unfortunate

Tyr42··on The MacBook Neo
Ah but then you'd need to hard shut down to carry it home. The battery should keep the ram active to commute while sleeping
Tyr42··on After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changes
Heck, doing a self review when you wrote the code catches stuff like forgetting debug prints.
Tyr42··on The “JVG algorithm” only wins on tiny numbers
Hey hey, 15 = 3*5 is factoring.
Tyr42··on Banned in California
Being unable to start a project without doing 5 years of legal wrangling once you put shovel to earth may not be a "ban", but it sure doesn't encourage development.
Tyr42··on Zero-day CSS: CVE-2026-2441 exists in the wild
Funny you'd mention that, when Notepad had a CVE in it's markdown parsing recently.
Tyr42··on I now assume that all ads on Apple news are scams
I mean I remember when Penny Arcade Ram ads for games and such and they only ran the ads if the approved of the game. The ads were worth clicking into. They sold a real product for a cost approximating its value.

Now ads are just scams

Tyr42··on Kotlin's rich errors: Native, typed errors without exceptions
I think bridging this syntax onto legacy checked exceptions from java would make a lot of sense.
Tyr42··on Kotlin's rich errors: Native, typed errors without exceptions
Sounds like checked and unchecked exceptions.

I mean, this could be a syntax wrapper for java checked exceptions right?

Those are isomorphic to Result<_, Err> in that you must handle or propagate the error. The syntax is different, sure.

Tyr42··on The struggle of resizing windows on macOS Tahoe
I tried to resize my already mostly fullscreen window now, and I cant, as it always triggers the hot corner for notes. I guess I have to have full sized windows then.
Tyr42··on LG TV's new software update installed MS Copilot, which cannot be deleted
I see it too. What the heck?
Tyr42··on GCC 16 considering changing default to C++20
That's the paid upgrade for "enterprise" level quality.
Tyr42··on The Farmer Was Replaced [video]
Luckily, there are lots of mods which make the base game more. I really enjoyed my bobs + angels run. I'm sure it would be even more fun if you opted into quality on top to really go mad.
Tyr42··on Gmail will no longer support checking emails from third-party accounts via POP
It was IMAP sync between the Gmail server and the Outlook/Yahoo/etc server.

Then you have a regular Gmail account and get notifications, spam checking, mobile push notifications etc.
